  8. no problem. just let me know if i can be of any help
  9. You also got a 7i Very uncommon because in this category and price range, people would normally go for canon g3 or g5 Camera setting as in f/stop, aperture, flash on/off and iso are already included in all the shots (except the tang) near the bottom of the border. For setup, I'm using an external flash (3600 HS) mounted on tripod. The camera is handheld and focus is manual. I normally pre-focus to the area the fish normally loiters. I would do further fine-tuning of the focus by physically moving the camera forward and backward. Reason being i'm not fast enough on the focus ring. And i always focus on the eyes. By the way, for 7i, you could magnify or zoom in on the subject when in manual focus mode. This feature is extremely useful. I shoot in raw mode which gives me the highest resolution and allows me to adjust the white balance after the shot is taken. My workflow include doing stuff in photoshop like :- 1) increase the contrast slightly 2) darken and blurred the background 3) reduce image size 4) slight sharpening Hope this helps! I'm no expert and I'm still learning too
  10. Thanks bum. Have not seen your shots for quite a while. Any teaser ?
  11. thanks bro! I started without flash also. But as its a moving target, your shutter speed has to be at least 1/60 or faster. Depending on the amount of lighting your subject receives, the pic most of the time would be underexposed. And digital noise would be more obvious in underexposed shots. With external flash, there are a lot of advantages. 1) you could shoot faster than 1/60 thereby freezing the moving target and eliminate blurness caused by movment 2) subject would be better illuminated thereby reducing underexposed areas which results in lesser digital noise 3) more details can be pick up for example, those stripes/spot on the purple tang 4) could add catchlight or in layman term, sparkle in the eyes to make the photo more lively. The list could go on and on.... But the trick is to be able to control the beast, (i mean the flash ) so that the subject is just nicely illuminated while the background goes underexposed. I'm still practising and practising and practising to achieve that Yes, i have a black background. But if you could achieve what i mentioned above, subject nicely illuminated by the flash and background goes underexposed, then it doesn't really matter if your background paper is black or blue etc.... Other than the lighting consideration, the other key factor is to choose an aperture to have just enough of your subject in focus while the background is thrown out of focus. In summary, visualise this, the subject is nicely illuminated and in focus against a dark and blur backdrop Since you already have the gear, keep shooting. Don't give up The reward will be worth it
  12. Wow Bro, Your pics getting nicer and nicer! 2 thumbs up
