  1. Is that a sand dollar on the bottom left picture? Keen to know how it 'performs'.
  2. Can get Caribsea brand from DE Aquatics. Nice selection of grain size & color.
  3. Regarding ph buffer, I was thinking you should measure your Calcium/Alkalinity/Mg before adding buffer in an attempt to correct it? Also, pH of 8 is perfectly fine.
  4. I read from here : http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2007-04/rhf/index.php Felt that 10ppm increase per day is quite slow. This will take a really long time. \ Any inputs from folks?
  5. I read that the guideline is max ~ 100ppm increase per day. So, add over a few days.
  6. I had the same issue on my 3ft (200L) where Mg was hovering in the 1100+ range. I used Mg powder (Red Sea Foundation C - Mg) to raise it to 1400 over a few days. Unless the objective is to increase Mg to get rid of bryopsis where liquid Mg is used, using dry powder for Mg is cheaper. There are cheaper options but i like Red Sea products because the instructions are quite clear. If you use this product, as per label, you'll need to add : 112g x 6 (for 600L) = 672g to bring it up from 1160 to 1310ppm
  7. Literature from the internet : We use bluish tank light to simulate what's seen in deep ocean. Its bluish because water is a filter of red light. The deeper you dive the more the red spectrum is filtered from the ambient light. You can however, emphasize the existing red light by filtering out the blue spectrum with a red filter. Hence, yes, red filter is probably better. Mine is a graduated filter so you can 'adjust' the level of compensation.
  8. Thanks for sharing. If you place the inlet tube above your display tank water surface like what you have done, it won't ever siphon water out correct? (i.e. no anti siphon valve required).
  9. Some updates & photos.... A seemingly peaceful blue eye anthias. But it whacked & killed a fellow blue eye anthias & chromis. Leaves the rest alone though. Purple Firefish from Coral Farm. Hides in odd places but comes out quite often. Ricordia swallowing a piece of bait fish. Should have torn off a smaller piece before feeding. Yuma Long tentacle plate coral (Heliofungia actiniformis). Green body. Blue tentacles. Pink tip. My fav coral at the moment. Branching golden hammer (euphyllia paraancora)
  10. Amazing tank. Always looking forward to updates of it. Does the flame angelfish nip on your corals?
  11. Interesting point about the various white color temperatures. So with AWM is able to automatically make it "cooler" or "warmer" by adjusting the other colors accordingly.
  12. I tried taking some coral photos at a LFS via my mobile to share with a fellow reefer last week but the lights in the shop just made it impossible. Photos just turned out blue. How to see ? Did some reading up that a red or orange filter can help. I happened to have a Tian Ya plastic filter from my old camera (S$7.50 at local camera shops). Photo of my tank taken with iPhone camera : Photo taken with the filter placed in front of iPhone camera. Closer to actual colors seen with our eyes. Just sharing .......
  13. Get from Hai Cheong Plastic (11 Kallang Place). They carry schedule 40 & 80 FIP valves.
  14. Very nice tank. Could you share your lighting regime?
  15. You probably need to get the BOYU brand wave makers instead of the more popular Jebao/Tunze/Ecotech. BOYU WM101 or alternatively WM15 for 80-350L (http://www.boyuaquarium.com/en_ArticleShow.asp?ArticleID=1605) http://www.eastoceansg.com/boyu-wm15-wavemaker-50-75cm-p-1110.html C328 probably has them as well.
  16. Thanks. Its quite ugly but at least it works with minimum light blocked.
  17. I've seen tub fulls of them at LCK201 this week.
  18. Re-did the mesh over the aquarium using thin fishing line (0.18mm thick). $5 for this reel. They had thicker fishing line (line tennis string) but that would be unnecessary. Spent an hour running a square mesh + diagonal around the egg crate. This will suffice for now...functional. Peace of mind that fishes won't jump out. And most importantly to keep them safe from accidental suicide.
  19. How does the AWM compare to the AI director? How's the interface & level of control?
  20. The photo below should explain it. I use a Bubble Magnus probe holder (DE Aquatic). The high switch is mounted directly onto the probe holder. The low switch is fitted into an acrylic tube (ArtFriend) then mounted on the probe holder. Hence the depth of the low switch can be adjusted easily.
  21. I've seen float switches at sim lim tower (basement ~$12. Top floor ~ $18-$40). I bought some in ebay (US$1.50) as well. I've used both - same quality. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  22. Thanks. Maybe you can try adding Bio Fuel as well. It was suggested by Ken (Madpetz).
