  1. check your iodine levels it could be insufficent. This happened to me and the hermits and shrimps took ages for the carapace to harden after molting.
  2. Happened to my octo and Gonipora when I had my first tank believe its a natural reaction to a shock/ constant disturbance or stressful conditions. the individual polips eject themselves to get away and hopefully drift somewhere else more hospitable.
  3. Did you rinse with hard water before using it? Singapore tap water is not considered hard water. add abit of Sodium Bicarbonate and Calcium Carbonate then rinse the resin about 5 times I believe. I tested my nitra lock... doesn't seem to soak up magnisium.... used a new packet added MgS04 to to bucket of recently changeg tank water and dropped in the resin... only like dropped 20ppm for a 12 liter pail...
  4. hmm seems to work for me... of course i have 15 mangroves for a 24 gallon and they suck up mag like water... nvr really thought that nitra lock took up the mag as well... must check...
  5. Next time just keep some vinegar handy. the moment you get stung pour vinegar over wound to kill the nematocides. also works with jelly fish stings btw
  6. That use to happen to me to when using the cheap 5 dollar hydrometers. wondering why my fish always get ich and look stress. when I switch to refractometer I found that the sg level of 24 on hydrometer was actually 27 on refractometer.... anyway now I only trust refractometer and no more ich and stressed fish
  7. Next time you catch more.... get some White spot lotion and drip on them slowly... you will get a fuzzy warm good sensation in side... I know I did.... I hate bristle worms... they ate my ricordia,
  8. Not really effective if system still has ich trace and you used medication to cure fish. Using medication means less resistance build up. What you can do to help the fish build resistance and survive is - Reduce sg level to 1.21 - 1.23 (help the fish to save energy from clearing salt) - Keep temp cold at 24-26 deg (reduce parsite metabolism and increase oxygen level) - Keep water clean and stable (less stress to fish) - have some Cleaner Shrimp to reduce parasite load on the fish body - run UV sterilizer or Ozone to help reduce parasite load in water.(Important if system has alot of fish as free floating parasite can be alot) - Have sand cleaners like Black Sea Cucumbers that engulf the sand to disgest organic matter. this help to reduce the ice cysts that go into the sand to multiply. - feed some garlic soaked food to fish to help feeding and resistance. Then again if you have no inverts you can nuke the system with copper...
  9. Have alot.... but how to catch them live? have alot in my reserve water tank. but every time I catch them with a net or sringe they die. (well they die anyway as the fish eat them) Time consuming to catch as well.
  10. Ya thats the fern... Don't know why but I never seem to be able to keep calerpa... all species of it... always become white or receed in 2weeks. but Cheato and red Macro algae seems to do fine in my system though.
  11. Ouch don't use Red Sea Salt... horrible brand. if your bent on trying it don't buy I have a whole 20+ kg bucket used abit can give you... thats how bad it is serious.
  12. use your thumb and finger to sqeeze a pinch under water. release pressure abit and apply again to let the air out. let the wet cyclopeeze slowly spread into the water column. your fingers may be stained red
  13. If you don't have too large a tank you can get a distiller for about 150 SGD, about 1 liter per hour output. Slow I know, but hey you can enjoy a cool clean drink from the water produced. I use it after seeing whats left behind... I feel queasy drinking tap water if offered
  14. I've experienced this before, are you sure they don't come out at night? why don't you take them out and give them a smell, if they smell like urine... their dead
  15. Kalk will not completely dissolve usually. you can make more of it dissolve by adding some vinegar in water. but then you really want the kalk to presipitate any other impurities like phosphates and other metals out of the tap water. just drip the clear solution in and throw the residue away its better.
