  3. yup , I got about 4 lettuce nudibranch that only had appetite for turtle weed! , gave up ....
  4. feed once a day, and all they can eat for that 5 minutes....dont worry they wont "starve" just make sure you have adequate live rocks to manufacture copepods and amphipods.Do you have deep sand bed system? The fishes can forage for food there
  5. Personally, I removed my bio balls, had them on overflow , trickle down to sump. I i used filter wool instead to collect weekly the debris, and throw that layer away. I used coral chips in my sump, and have a separate tank (refugium) : chaeto, grapes algae, ulva algae, and live rocks ........ I read in a few websites that bio-balls are bad ( unless u have the time to maintain/wash them!) which I dont want to....the result speaks for itself! At least for me
  6. i guess you mix your own from tap water? can be the reason why you get cynao bloom.....as our water contains silicates, phosphates, adds to your water quality woes....do you over feed your live stocks?
  7. tiyayeo:- I get mine from; 1) Reborn aquarium at Lavendar 2) Iwarna at Pasir Ris (rotifers are for feeding corals, baby fishes , sea horses) You can culture rotifers from those you buy or alternatibely buy the eggs http://www.florida-aqua-farms.com http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2003-01/totm/index.php , but will need to feed them planktonic food. (so culture phytoplankton as well, if you intent to start a production line!) question is do you need them, now that theres a whole lot of processed food available! for example http://www.cyclop-eeze.com/ jErEmYsIa:- Please search thru the forum, as theres alot of information already written (feels I was walked this path too many times already!)
  8. think if you have a spare tank, and I can only guess that you have a sump already- why not use your spare tank as refugium ? With macro algae, Chaetomorpha algae is ideal. so you can have extra volume /capacity?think of the amphipods and copepods that will grow
  9. I alway put a "reasonable" amount of white piping tape around the pipes 1st, to cover the gaps and eventual "vibration" wear and tear....also as advised earlier, only use the PVC glue to bond the pipes, they are strong enough., if need to , secure the pipes to cabinet, wall to provide some "kick back ' when starting pumps. For my return pipes from skimmer (I got 3 feet bullet skimmer type!) I only twist the pipes together with white piping tape for some tension/grip, but I do tie down the pipes with nylon ropes so they wont break apart when I restart the pump.(Maintenance days)
  10. NO nudibranch, no sea urchin, no tangs(fish) otherwise, extra long photoperiod, good flow. I got some initially when I started my tank, lost alot to the "grazers", now only have them in my refugium and provide 25 hrs lightings!
  11. for goodness sake, take them out!!! carefully, these can proliferate and kill you favourite corals.Hard to get rid of , especially if you try scraping off, they split and become more.....clones.TAKE them out of your water system.Isolate them if you want to watch them, otherwise kill them off .
  12. Aquamarin at jalan kayu, Reborn at lavender to name 2
  13. Any more of the resins left>? like 1.5 litre worth
  14. Mine discard old heads twice in 8 months, wass going to throw it away some more!!! thank goodness I did not, cos rewarded with new pinkish growth in a week or so , which matured into the "regular' orange color ones later
  15. can I ask the estimated $$$ cost of this diy? As can buy a ready cabinet T5 set at ard $25 to $28 set from lighting stores (electronic ballast) I got the store to change 2700k to 6500k tubes (actinic separately)
