Are you planning to put a compressor?

Ya bro. U have some tips for it? I know there are a few sizes of compressor, I'm not sure for my tank capacity, how much HP should I get.

Tank size:36"x36"x24"

Skimmer:BK Double Cone 200 on Reef Octopus DC 5500s.

Wavemaker:2xVortech MP40wES

Chemical filtration:1xeducator FR(biopellets)

Chiller:1hp Daikin compressor.

Lighting:2 x Kessil A360we

Auto topup system: JBJ ATO + new jet 1200

Dosing system: Kamoer 3 channel.

Additives: ESV 2 part.

Power consumption

Bad news from HDB.Confirmed from HDB that can't install anything on the ledge.

Sort of gd news is old model Teco TR15 with 1 fan, can add another fan. The power connector is already there. So why don't they put 2 fans in the first place???

So Teco TR15 users take note. There is this minor upgrade.

Adding a 2nd fan to the chiller.... Followed website instructions and removed the cover.

chilleropened.jpg

Original single fan. There is a black plate which I already took off to facilitate the installation of the 2nd fan.

chillerfan2.jpg

chillerfan3.jpg

With the 2nd fan, there is an obvious improvement to the chilling ramp down time. But still under monitoring.

After reading about static pressure of the fan & still trying to put chiller inside cabinet, decided to rotate the chiller such that the 2 fans face the cabinet opening.

I have also removed one of the 20cm coolmaster fan as it will induce a static pressure & hot air will have difficulty moving out. (Based on the theory on the internet). So the hot air is solely evacuated by the 2 fans of the chiller.

Looks odd though. But so long as there's enough space to put a doser will do.

chillerboxup2.jpg

There is an intake hole under the chiller. I've installed a 12" boxer fan under it to increase the air intake. Damn the flow is strong. Much stronger than the 20cm coolmaster.

I still make a vertical board that directs the hot air out thru, instead of allowing it to circulate inside the compartment. Damn. Thought I already edit & rotated the pic.... how come some pic ok some not...

chillerboxup.jpg

Chiller under monitoring.

Fabricated a acrylic stand from Yin Kwang for the skimmer. This will raise the skimmer to the recommended 20-23cm water level.

After putting the chiller slanted, removing part of the black mesh on the back of cabinet to prevent the introduction of static pressure, fabricating a box up for the chiller's exhaust,

Putting a boxer fan under the chiller intake, the chiller is able to function efficiently.

Preliminary the chiller can stay inside the cabinet without introducing heat to the sump & operate "properly". The downside is I need to rotate the chiller straight to take out the filter mesh for cleaning.

Received my pub bill for Jan, the 1st bill after setting up. It was abt $108. My bills normally averages around $130-$150. So quite astonish. will continue to monitor the power consumption.

The equipment differences were my DIY 80watts led to radion 130watts, and 1xehiem1262 to 2xreef Octo pump. So it doesn't make sense to me.

The rate of evaporation is quite astonishing as well. The top up tank of 18litres need to be top up abt every 5 days.

saw this at sim lim n decided to try it, 9 leds e27 socket. initially all the led r white, had the shop person to change out six to blue.

will be going IKEA to buy the light stand later.

A few weeks before while am overseas, my radion fan kaput and caused the led to auto turn off after a while due to heat protection, casualties are the birdnest sps given to me during "reefsystems share a frag" n a chilli pepper monti from Cedric.

Thankfully Ken frm Madpetz loaned me his demo set while he order new fan to repair my radion.

haha front/ full tank shot. how much you got the leds for?

I got them quite ex though. $141, including changing out 6 white led to blue, but i wanted more led. aldo saw a big one with 15leds. but thats a bit huge. You can also replace some led with uv type. but am afraid of the health hazard involved. shop demo one with all uv, it is really nice.

in sim lim, all led bulb in some form of white, no market to have all blue bulb or other colorful ones. So if u want other combi u need pay to amend it.

here are the photos. never stock up much. want to stock up slowly. I wanted to keep some sea fans, lps n sps together. So trying out experimenting different angle flow to see how the sea fan response. the pics look dim but actual fact is quite bright, wouldn't want to disservice the radion.

Decided to take the plunge.

Got Derek to install a compressor.

The decision is hard, besides putting a compressor in living room but also worrying if theres enough space for the coil.

Derek is kind enough to lead me a coil to test out.

Afraid of spoiling the coil, just roughly position the coil and once can confirm the coil can clear the tank frame n sump tank, decided to stop and wait for expert to come.

Finally today is the day and Derek came and install the compressor. Here it the completed work.

20120707_142057.jpg

The coil is installed vertically. It will not block the skimmer pump, ease of maintenance.

20120707_142124.jpg

tonite will dismantle old chiller and clean it and tidy up the chiller compartment. Promise wife to shift my fishy stuffs frm her cabinet.

Very high end tank

bro, there r pple here with few units of led light sets , multiple dosing pumps, high end additives spend $$$$ buy exotic corals. their maintenance spending bery high. mine is one time cost.

Received my e27 light clamp holder, after 9 days of waiting. sadly the plastic housing of the bulb holder was broken. informed seller n arrange for replacement n return shipping.

20120707_191350.jpg

the right unit has a stronger flexible stem.

the left unit is weaker. but still does the job. but as the flexible stem is short, the bulb is nearer to water n light spread not big.

2012-07-07220237.png

Following the idea that right rockscape is for SPS, left rockscape for LPS. Extreme left is for non photosyn species as light is dimmest.

Using the E27 par38 bulb to provide additional light to SPS rockscape.

Hope you are feeding the seafan enough...I can help you setup a food reactor if needed..

Hi terryz, the auto food reactor is liquid food? how much is the cost? the dosing unit big?

I'm feeding my fans using sprayed dry food. just added a purple sea fan or rod. need to see how it response to its location.

The number of reefer placing compressor beside their tank is slowly increasing. Mine is about 5 years if I'm not wrong.

my stop temp is 27. start temp is 28. I'm putting my temp probe inside the overflow.

currently timing the ramp down time.

wifey dun wan me waste $$ to make a cabinet to hide the compressor, just find some wood grain laminate stickers to stick it. Using compressor biggest issue is it stands out visually. but after u weigh in the pros, one tends to accept it. Not forgetting u need a supporting spouse too.

What's the pros of compressor?

for me pros would be savings from Not buying an aquarium chiller. if u want to twist the logic, u save $ by buying a compressor.

1) 1 hp aquarium chiller is very very ex.

2) read up on info abt same hp chiller n compressor but chill down time is vastly different. compressor is faster.

3) heat generation.

pub bills yet to determine if there's any savings.

I feel tat the factors determining compressor or chiller choice is water volume, sump space for coil, accept fact that a compressor is in view. A small water volume may not justify a compressor. if sump too small also can't put in coil even if dun mind installing a compressor.

I passed my tr15 to my brothers 2ft planted tank. it takes 40mins to chill down frm 28 to 26. for my tank, it takes abt 3hrs to get frm 28 to 27
