  • 2 weeks later...

Today managed to setup my cr with my friend helping me. Totally a noob in this. The cr I'm using is bubble magus, model is CR100WP. I'll break down the cost of my setup in case there's anyone interested in my setup. I'm using the most cheapest and reliable equipments I can find within my budget. Here's a pic of my setup,

e456c1bb055eb837b836873fba76fca8.jpg

Things I need,

1) BM CR100WP from DE aquatics: $160

2) Ans CO2 alloy 2L cylinder from GreenEmerald Aquarium : $80

3) Ans dual gauge solenoid regulator from Fresh n Marine: $94.50 (I think price hv gone up after I bought it, lol)

4) 12/16mm hose 1metre from GreenEmerald Aquarium: $2.50

5) 9/12mm hose 1ft from AquaStar: $1

6) 12mm to 9mm reducer from AquaStar: $3

7) Tunze mini pump from Fresh n Marine: $20

8) Grotech mg pro cr media 1kg from Marinelife: $32

9) Rowalith W 6kg from Madpetz: $45

Total cost of new CR setup for me costs $438. But I think it will be cheap and less hassle in the long run. No more making dosing liquid for ca, kh & mg every mth. And also hopefully more stable parameters.

You short of a ph monitor and a timer to regulate your co2 gas output.

Ya, bro. I'm not using for the time being, budget constraint. I'm manually tuning my cr and running it 24hrs see how it goes first. I think its optional for ph monitor but gd to hv if u wanna control ph in cr via co2 dosing. Maybe something for the future.

Yo bro, better to have a ph meter or test kit. Else its gonna be a guessing game when u tune the cr. Nonetheless, it can be done without a test kit, only risk is turning ur media into milkshake. Increase ur co2 slowly, u should be fine.

Thanks for sharing your setup. This is a useful reference as I'm thinking of getting one soon.

How items #4-#7 are used for the CR setup? (i.e. larger tubes & pump)

Ya, I'm using test kit to test. No worries. Still on process of tuning. Thks for the advise, bro.

It's up to individual's preference. Item #4-#7 is for supplying tank water usually from sump if u hv one to ur CR, usually installed externally outside sump, but there r in sump models if I'm not wrong. I'm only juz sharing my own equipment cost. There's a few ways to feed ur cr, most reefers uses a peristaltic pump such as TOM aqualifter while some tee off from their return pump to feed their cr. It's up to u, bro. Here's a link for better understanding.

nice Start bro. Finally. Lol

Suggest to change the tube between cylinder and bubble counter to hard one, Which Can take more pressure.

also. I do believe u soon need a 2nd media chamber. I will update My diy one. to increase cr capability.

Just to share with anyone keen on cr. I used this article to guide me when setting up a cr.

Probably one of the best written cr article I've came across.

Thanks for sharing, bro. Its not as difficult as what I initially thought.

Thanks for the advise, bro. Will change to new hard tubing soon. My cr juz nice for my tank size of 50 gallons so maybe no need for 2nd chamber. Will monitor tank uptake closely. So far ca @ 410ppm and KH stablized @ 8dkh. Now wat to do with my kamoer 3 channels dosing pump, spare container with all the premix cacl2, nahco3 & mgcl2 liquid & powder?? Lol

Quick update,

New fish, carpenter flasher wrasse,

Purple bonsai frag from bro Evo,
