i'm in the market for a new camera to take decent pictures of my corals, sps and FTS.

can anyone recommend a good DSLR camera with macro lens to use based on my requirement below?

1) i'm new in photography so operation of camera as simple as possible.

2) as compact as possible... so i can bring with me even on holidays

one of the model i keep coming back to is the Olympus E-P1

My Yasha Hase (Image is re-sized but is not cropped, original is 5184*3456) Besides a good lens, clean glass, good lighting, no micro bubbles will produce good results... my tank glass needs cleaning....

If budget is never a concern and your wish to go serious into photography, go straight for the 5Dmk3 body + 100mm f/2.8L macro. All new est 5.6k.

For limited budget, you can still use your existing Ep1 with a macro Len like the Panasonic 42mm F/2.8mm. Overall still fits your desire for a light, simple and compact walk around camera.

Full frame with 100mm will be too short and may not get it nice however it will be good on a crop body. My 2c.

It not just the camera (M43 or Canon or Nikon) and lens (can use normal lens with raynox 150/250). Flash and diffuser is also another important factor.

Hope this help.

Through my years of photography, I have seen many friends with deep pockets purchasing high end equipment. They jumped into photography without learning the basics of photography. Most of them are still using AUTO mode till date -_-

Of course with deep pocket you get to enjoy all the wonderful features of the higher models right from the beginning but for bros who may not have deep pockets, it is perfectly ok to get the basics. Please remember it does not mean you get good pictures with higher end gears in fact I won my competitions when I was using the lowest end first gen DSLR.... but then again, there are no rules in photography ... snap it away! :)

my 2 cents thoughts

I use this lens for my macro shots with a Nikon D300 body - reasonably priced and good.

AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR (3.0x)

If you have a big budget, I strongly recommend this lens - the best Nikkor lens I have ever tried for macro photography.

AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED

+1 100mm is not enough for full frame.

my 90mm with non-full frame feel too short..........
