Can I suggest something? The horizontal beams is not strong if u mount it this way. Is better if it is sited onto the vertical beam.

Chaeto offered from both nice reefer to seed my newly setup refugium is beginning its function with algae decreasing from the glass in my sump tank.

The lighting for the refugium 1.5ft T5 operate for 8hrs.

Absolutely right that check valves can fail. Mine failed a number times resulting in flood to sump tank.

Have to do monthly test to "dislodge " the ball which got stuck very often. You got to hear the "thump" sound as confirmation that the ball has locked into position every time you shut the return pump. If no thump sound then got to on n off a few more times for the ball to dislodged n locked in position.

I have heard that check valves often fail and it is safer to drill a hole as well

I'm using the piston rod type and not the ball type.

So far so good....and has not failed me...

Been using this similar check valve in the past for my freshwater tank for almost 6 years with no maintenance at all.

That is my past experience which may not be for this time...

Anyway...just keep my fingers cross.....

Maybe you can consider drilling a hole to break siphon.

Depend on where the holes...

If you have the check valve and the output pipe has restricted length, it will not sufficient to cut the back flow siphon....

Drilling one or two holes is safest n simplest method. The hole should be located just below normal water level at output pipe. The hole however need maintenance as it will get block by algae over time. :-)

Some parts ordered and pending for arrival.
