Aquarium Monitoring and Control is now a must-have!

The most successful aquariums are those where the owner has the most understanding of what is going in their little world-in-a-glass-box. However, the real key to enjoying this hobby is to do that without making it a full time job!

Owning the Apex aquarium controller is the best way to get you back to focusing on the things you love like fish and coral, and less about temperature issues, pH levels, light timers, dosing tanks, vacation plans, etc.

And, if you desire, you can then take it to the next level with: Remote monitoring and control of your tank, iPhone/iPad/Android apps, advanced LED dimming, wireless VorTech pump control, Auto Top-off, calcium reactor control, ozone control, auto dosing of elements, auto-feeding your fish, and much more!

Got Tank Insurance?

In addition to all the incredibly cool things an Apex does, first and foremost it protects your tank from all sorts of very common catastrophes like overheating due to faulty tank heaters or HVAC issues, fires from cheap plastic powerstrips, leakages and overflows, out of range parameters, etc. And, once issues are detected, the Apex takes corrective action to reduce the likelihood of serious damage and then notifies you so you can take it from there. The Apex has saved aquarium owners hundreds of thousands of dollars in livestock, equipment, flooring, etc. Leaving home for 2 hours or 2 weeks will no longer involve the anxiety of wondering what you will come home to. This reason alone is enough to justify purchasing an Apex.

‘But it seems expensive’

The Apex costs less than you probably think. You will really see its value when you recognize what a Swiss Army knife the Apex is for your tank – and the peace of mind it provides. The Apex is roughly the cost of a skimmer or a light fixture but does so much more. And, when you factor in the other things you will not need to buy (power strips, light timers, ph controller, electronic heater control, etc.) the incremental cost is nominal.

‘OK, but isn’t it hard to set up?’

With the quick-start guide, you will be up and running controlling the basic functions of your tank like the lights, heater and pumps in a matter of minutes.

Then, as you want to expand to other features like remote access, email alerts, feed modes, etc., there is a comprehensive and easy to read manual to guide you. Or, the online user forum has hundreds of other users ready to lend you a helping hand. Not enough? Well our amazing technical support staff is always ready to lead you to a solution in record time.

Our flagship aquarium controller

Our Apex System is the best-value aquarium controller on the market today. Dollar for dollar you will not find a higher-quality controller that gives you more features, is easier to use, or has a larger and more active user base than the Apex. If you haven’t done so already, please read our Why Apex? page to get a high level view of why the Apex is so important to your aquarium.

The Apex System comes complete with:

Feed your fish consistently, and safely, while you are home OR away with the Automatic Feeding System(AFS)!

post-24785-0-13432400-1426317369.jpg

A key component of caring for aquatic animals is regularly providing them with food, but in amounts that get consumed immediately so as not to pollute the aquarium. On top of that, most species do best when they are fed all throughout the day.

However, overfeeding of aquariums is one of the top reasons for water pollution and tank failures. With the AFS, you can use the Apex to schedule to feed your fish small amounts of food from once, to as many times as you like throughout the day. You can even set the exact days to feed or not to feed. And, if you are measuring water quality using ORP, you can even hold off feeding if the ORP values drop too low in the tank.

The most obvious benefit of the AFS is that it can feed your fish when you are away on vacation — no longer do you have to worry about a friend or family member forgetting to feed, or worse yet, overfeeding your tank!

post-24785-0-40126200-1426318515.jpg

Stay-dry system prevents caking and clumping

A common issue for most aquarium autofeeders is moisture getting into the food, making it clump or cake and clogging up. The AFS has a motorized food delivery system that automatically extends and retracts into the housing for each feeding. And, the food container has a built-in gasket that seals out all moisture once it is retracted.

Features of the Automatic Feeding System – AFS:

  • Feeds pellet or flake food in varying amounts
  • Apex can be set so that the AFS will feed from one time to as many times as you like throughout the day
  • Connects via the Apex AquaBus
  • “Stay-dry” system has a sealed food container that extends and retracts for each feeding. This keeps food dry and prevents clumping.
  • The lowest setting feeds just a few grains of pellet food so multiple small feedings are possible
  • Allows for optimal feeding — small amounts many times a day
  • Feedings can be combined with other operations such as powering off return pumps, skimmer, etc. and then automatically turning them back on after a set amount of time.
  • Adjustable mounting clip extends up to two inches (or velcro can be used) so it will work in almost every aquarium configuration.
  • Includes 15′ AquaBus Cable
  • Bonus: FREE Sample of Crossover Diet food included!
  • IN STORES NOW!

LED Dimming :: VDM

post-24785-0-28144100-1426319813_thumb.j

LED dimming has never been easier

Every day it seems there is yet another LED light fixture released. Each one with its own method for control and dimming. With this module, you can outfit your Apex System with the ability to control many different brands of LED lights…from those that use the common 0-10V interface to the more complex like those that use a serial port connection such as the Aqua Illuminations Sol and Acan Lighting fixtures.

post-24785-0-75325400-1426319816_thumb.j

Four channels of 0-10V LED dimming

Simply plug in the industry standard Apex Ready 0-10V plug from your fixture into one of the two connectors on the VDM module and you will be on your way to creating lighting profiles as simple or as complex as your creativity demands. Or, if you have an unsupported LED fixture or are doing the DIY thing, simply purchase our LED dimming cable to make the connection. Each cable/connector supports two channels of your LED drivers 0-10V inputs.

Have more lights and more channels?

No Problem!

Because the Apex is modular by design, you can add multiple VDM modules to enable more channels of control. So, if you are one of those DIY nuts that wants to have three LED fixtures each with four color channels, and you want them all controllable, the Apex with the VDM module is the only way to go.

Advanced dimming options with

Apex Ready+ LED fixtures

If you are fortunate enough to own a more advanced, Apex Ready+ fixture such as the Aqua Illuminations Sol or the Acan Lighting fixture, you have an additional set of features made available by the manufacturer by connecting the Advanced LED cable between your LED fixture and the VDM. With this connection you can configure your Apex to do cool things with your light like storms, lightning, moonlighting, or advanced color profiles. . . all at a moments notice, timed, or from the touch of your mobile device!

Features of the LED Dimming Module – VDM:
  • Complete control of Apex Ready+ LEDs that use the serial interface
  • Simulate Sunrise/Sunset, Lunar Cycle, Clouds, and Lightning with Apex Ready+ fixtures.
  • Adds 4 independent 0-10V variable speed ports to the Apex system.
  • Plug and Play. Automatically recognized when installed into the system.
  • Two AquaBus connectors for flexible expansion via AquaBus.
  • Comes with 3′ AquaBus cable.
  • Fully upgradeable via future firmware upgrades.
  • LED Status indicator.
  • Compatible with all Apex Systems.
  • NOTE: The VDM does not include any interface cables for your LEDs. You must purchase those separately.

Apex Dissolved Oxygen, Temperature, I/O Expansion - PM3 Module

post-24785-0-14615500-1427103906_thumb.j

The Neptune Systems Apex Dissolved Oxygen, Temperature, I/O Expansion Module, PM3, includes support for dissolved oxygen, temperature, and 6 digital inputs. This product will only work with Apex and Apex Lite AquaController Systems.

Many marine aquarists only give the oxygen content in their aquarium water a passing thought, not fully understanding how the level of the Dissolved Oxygen (DO) in their tanks can affect their entire tank population. In one way or another, everything (fish, invertebrates, corals, algaes, bacteria) in the oceans and in marine aquariums react with oxygen. Most of the living beings of this planet require oxygen in order to metabolize nutrients. Fish, invertebrates, corals, and bacteria ingest O2 and expel CO2 day and night.

Your critters are not the only things that use oxygen in your tank. Organic materials (i.e. Dissolved Organic Compounds, uneaten food and fish detritus on the bottom of the tank) consume a lot of oxygen as they break down. And now it's even popular to add nitrifying bacteria additives which multiply very rapidly, consuming a large portion of the available oxygen in the tank water.

  • Monitor Dissolved Oxygen (D0).
  • Control outlets based on the dissolved oxygen reading from the probe connected to the PM3.
  • Automatic temperature compensation for DO with connected temperature probe (temperature probe optional).
  • Monitor and control temperature with connected temperature probe (temperature probe optional).
  • Galvanic Isolation for accurate and reliable probe readings.
  • 6 digital inputs for float switches, water on the floor sensors, pressure sensors, etc.
  • Full data logging and graphing through the Apex Base Module.
  • The PM3 attaches to and is powered by the Apex system via AquaBus.
  • Automatic Plug N Play for easy setup and configuration.
  • Upgradeable firmware through AquaBus via the Apex Base Module.
  • Multi-color LED Status Indicator.
  • 2 AquaBus ports for flexible system connections.

DŌS – Dosing and Fluid Metering System

post-24785-0-85733800-1437894589.jpg

A multi-purpose dosing and fluid delivery system of uncompromising quality combined with the simplicity of Apex Fusion software wizards for operations such as:

  • 2-part dosing (Calcium and Alkalinity)
  • Other additives dosing
  • Automatic water changes
  • micro-quantity dosing
  • delivery of liquid foods and supplements

Now Available in our stores!

So, here’s what the DŌS can do

The DŌS is a multi-purpose Dosing and Fluid Metering System. The DŌS connects to any Apex via its AquaBus connection. The true versatility and functionality of the DŌS comes to life via the software wizards built into Apex Fusion. This takes dosing to a whole new level in terms of ease of use as well as functionality when compared to standalone dosing systems because the DŌS is part of your Apex ecosystem. Not only can you integrate it into other operations and devices you have configured, but we also will be continuing to expand on its capabilities as time goes on via software updates to Apex Fusion.

Water changes – the never ending chore of an aquarium

Hate doing water changes? – everyone does – so they never get done as often as they should. Not only that, water changes are disruptive to the stability of your system since all of that change is happening at once.

With the DŌS all you do is place your empty vessel and your fresh stock of saltwater under your stand. Then, with the Apex Fusion wizard just tell it amount of water you want to change over what length of time and the hours of the day you want it to happen and it figures it all out for you. It will perform an automatic, continuous water change for you. It gets better. If you have our dual optical water sensing accessory Apex Fusion will send you an email or text message letting you know it is time to change out the jugs. Less time pumping, siphoning, and sloshing water and more time enjoying a great aquarium.

Coming soon to our showroom: 3 new Apex expansion accessories.

PMK :: PAR Monitoring Kit

18611_PMK-All-459.thumb.jpg.830ce938b9c1

Features and Benefits:

  • Performs continuous light-level monitoring for your aquarium
  • Measures actual PAR – the light corals and plants use
  • Prevents burning out corals
  • Includes ASM – the new Advanced Sensors Module
  • PAR sensor hides nicely in aquarium inside Real Reef Rock
  • Fine tune your lighting to your aquariums’s needs

Continuous light-level monitoring for your aquarium

With the PAR Monitoring kit you can monitor and log your aquarium’s light levels 24 hours a day! The perfect tool to fine tune your lighting on your tank. Now you now can adjust your lights with the confidence of knowing you will not be giving too much or too little light to your corals and plants.

Measures Actual PAR – The Light Corals and Plants Use

The Apex with the PMK measures actual PAR. PAR stands for photosynthetically Active Radiation. This is the light from 400 to 700 nanometers that organisms are able to use for photosynthesis – this includes the zooxanthellae algae that lives inside your corals. Other measurements like LUX are not useful at all as they measure just the light visible to the human eye.

Prevent Burning Out Corals!

At certain parts of the specturm, the human eye cannot perceive light intensity changes once the light level exceeds a certain point. Too often this causes people to adjust their LED lights far past the ideal PAR level for their corals or plants. This usually results in burning, bleaching and/or death. With the PMK you can adjust your lights while monitoring exactly what light is affecting your corals and plants throughout the day. Also, not all corals are alike. Each type of coral has its own range of light intensity that makes it happy or not. The chart on the right shows this phenomenon without getting all technical.

Rugged Sensor Hides Inside Real Reef Rock

Sensors and probes are great in our aquariums, we just don’t want to see them! That’s why we usually put them down below in the sump. Not possible here. Knowing this we had the guys at Real Reef Rock design a custom piece of rock to hide the sensor in your aquarium. Now you can monitor light 24/7 and never see the sensor!

24/7 Light Monitoring!

Track your light levels over time. With the PMK you track and log PAR 24/7. Now you easily go back and look at how you had your lights running last week. Even better you can compare your light output across the day with others who use the PMK and then compare light schedules and LED settings.

18612_NPS-800x800-292.thumb.jpg.2f03c912

No more guesswork!

If you control your lighting with the Apex, you are in for an added bonus. The lighting wizard in Apex Fusion shows you your previous days light level across the day superimposed with the light wizard graph. Up until now you had to pretty much wing it when it came to making adjustments. Now you can easily make lighting changes and see the effects of those changes in one simple interface!  If you don’t have it already, this is one major reason to start controlling your lighting with the Apex. There are many Apex Ready light choices available. Some of the wireless lights like those from AquaIlluminations and EcoTech Marine even have their own Apex control modules (AWM and WXM).

Includes the newly released Advanced Sensors (ASM) Module!

More information will be released on this module in the future but in short this new module allows for hundreds of different types of future Neptune Systems and current 3rd-party sensors to be connect to your Apex and have their data logged.

Kit Includes:

ASM – Advanced Sensors Module

NPS – Neptune PAR Sensor

Real Reef Rock

6′ AquaBus Cable

WAV:: Extreme flow for your aquarium

20316_WAV-quarter-angle-1024-420x280.thu

A powerhead that answers all your needs:

  • Extreme flow (~4000+ gph)
  • Compact size (less total mass compared to nearly all similar flow pumps)
  • Directional flow (pivots with 40 degree range of motion and can be rotated – great for rear wall use)
  • Low power consumption – <35W at the wall
  • Multiple operational modes (random flow modes, mirror, inverse, etc.)
  • Easy to clean (pump automatically shuts off when removed from water)
  • Incredibly Quiet (possibly the quietest driver on the market)
  • Magnetic mount works on up to 1″ glass (in a class by itself)
  • Easy installation with just a single skinny wire for all power and control (1LINK interface makes it a snap!)

Directional flow allows stealth mounting options

Unfortunately, some of the leading water moving pumps on the market only send flow in a direction perpendicular to the glass. This really limits an aquarists options and, in some cases, obstructs the view. Having a powerhead that can be pointed in all directions is nothing new, but the hardware to make that happen usually takes up too much space and is unsightly. The WAV answers both of these problems with a new take on an articulating mount.

Through research we found that most customers usually never need to point their pump at extreme angles – usually 20 degrees one direction or another is enough. This is the approach we took with the WAV. With its innovative, low-profile magnetic mount, you get up 40 degree range of motion on the pivot and then the entire pump rotates 360 degrees. This provides so many more options than flow that coming straight out from the side or back of the aquarium. Imagine mounting the WAV on the back side glass or even the back wall, set an angle, and kicking the flow off the side or front glass. You get the flow where you need it and you stop blocking the beautiful side views of your aquarium!

WAV-in-tank-1024-fixed-300x200.thumb.jpg

Endless flow options for every aquarist

We know that everyone likes their flow a little bit different.  So Apex Fusion controls the WAV with a multitude of patterned flow and random settings. You can even set one or more pumps to mirror or be the inverse of another.  The easy to use Apex Fusion scheduling graph makes it a snap to set up huge waves in the morning, stir up detritus in the afternoon, and slow the flow at night. The flow in your aquarium can be as unique as your favorite coral!

Detailed, real-time pump status and AI

This is a first for this product segment. From within Apex Fusion, the details of operation of every WAV on your tank can be observed. You will be able to see the mode, the RPM, the temperature range, and the current status of the pump. Apex Fusion takes this one step further. It monitors your pump parameters, and then based on its AI it takes corrective action such as stopping the pump and sending alerts to you by text or email when the pump is malfunctioning.

Snails, Falls, Stalls – No Worries!

Snails and other obstructions are usually a powerhead’s worst enemy – tearing it to pieces. Sometimes just knocking a pump off of the glass will not only kick up sand all over the tank, but it can also destroy the pump, or worse your favorite corals. Most pumps cannot even tell when they are out of water – cavitating furiously when doing a simple water change – or spinning themselves to ruin. The WAV has advanced sensors that dramatically reduce these events from occurring. Even taking the pump out of water for a cleaning does not require it to be powered down – it senses the condition and turns off!

Say goodbye to cable mess.

Wires and cables are the enemy. Even so-called “wireless” devices on our aquariums have far too many cables and power supplies that clutter up our tank stands. The 1LINK system overhauls that mess of cabling by providing a way to connect up to five devices onto one power supply and make them controllable with your Apex. There are three 1LINK source connections that can provide power and communication to WAV pumps, a DŌS, or future 1LINK devices. Additionally there are two 24V DC switched connections for future add-ons or DIY Solutions.

Screen-Shot-2015-08-08-at-2.30.00-PM-300

1LINK – Easy, one-click installation

The WAV is the first of a line of aquarium products from Neptune Systems that will use a completely new interface. While many in the aquarium world continue to embrace wireless technologies for interconnectivity, we have decided to go the other direction – a wire.

Wireless connectivity from your smartphone or tablet to your Apex (or other controller) is completely logical – and we embrace that. However, wireless used for the interconnecting of devices within the confines of common aquariums (that are mostly less than 6′ long) is not only unnecessary, but it reduces reliability. Our philosophy is that when distances are measured in a few feet, wireless is a solution looking for a problem. And ironically, wireless really does not save wires. You still need to use a wire to get power to the devices anyway. And let’s not forget configuration – wireless devices require syncing, endless button presses and arcane steps to get them to connect up – hopefully with you and not your neighbor. Finally for all this “benefit”, you as the consumer get the added cost of this wireless technology that must be baked into the price of every device you buy.

So after much study of the problem, our answer is 1LINK. It is called 1LINK because there is one power supply, one module (for up to three 1LINK devices), and a one-click-connection of a wire that carries not only the power for the device, but two-way communication from it to your Apex.  Setup is simply click and go.

1LINK-Module-1024-300x200.thumb.jpg.d189

WAV Starter Kit Includes:

  • Two (2) WAVs
  • 1LINK Module
  • 100W 24VDC Power Supply
  • 3′ AquaBus Cable

WAV Starter Kit Requires:

  • Apex, Apex Lite, or Apex Jr.

DDR – DŌS Dual Reservoir

16768_DDR-web-hero-459x240.thumb.jpg.af7

This attractive fluid containment system stores your dosing fluids in style and even tells you when it’s time to refill!

  • Each side stores two liters (2L) of fluid
  • Connects directly to your DŌS
  • Optical sensors inform your APEX when levels are low
  • Strong, cast-acrylic construction
  • Low-profile – won’t easily tip over
  • Easy to refill
  • Push-fit tubing connections
  • Use for 2-part (Alk/Cal), additives and other applications

Style Meets Function, Deceiving Capacity, No-tip design

The DDR has great style and will stand out in anyones equipment room. But it’s not just about style. It may not look like it, but each side of the reservoir holds an ample two liters (2000 mL) of fluid. For most saltwater aquariums that are dosing Calcium and Alkalinity to their aquariums, this amount is more than enough to last at least two weeks. If you were dosing other additives it might last months before needing a refill.

Speaking of refills, the DDR has easy lift off lids that make refilling it super easy.

The DDR was also designed to have a low center of gravity. This means, unlike other reservoirs on the market, it is very difficult to inadvertently tip over and ruin your day.

Optical Sensors Alert You When It’s Time to Refill

The DDR is the only dosing container on the market that connects electrically to your DŌS and uses optical sensors that alert you when your fluid has approximately 20% remaining. This alert could be used to send you a text or an email, or even trigger other events on your Apex.  Also, when detecting water level, optical sensors are far less likely to fail than their float switch counterparts.

DDR-Sensor.thumb.jpg.2586f694ff57fa23419

Connects Directly to your DŌS

One simple connection links the DDR to the DŌS. No worries about fooling around with loose wires, float switches, etc. Just plug it in and it will show up in your Apex Fusion Dashboard.

Ready for Apex Fusion

Although not required, the DDR interfaces directly into your Apex Fusion dashboard. See in realtime your fluid levels and get an alarm when a reservoir runs low.

Specifications

Size (Approx.): 10.5″ x 8.5″ x 5.5″

Fluid Capacity (Approx.): 2000ml per side

Weight (Approx.):  2 pounds

Requires:  Apex, Apex Lite, or Apex Jr. and DŌS to operate sensors

Package includes: DDR, 4m of DŌS tubing

More information will be released on this module in the future but in short this new module allows for hundreds of different types of future Neptune Systems and current 3rd-party sensors to be connect to your Apex and have their data logged.
