Type of Lighting for 3'/4' reef tank

Recommended Posts

Hi, just wondering what kind of lighting or even brands, would you guys recommend for a 3'/4' reef tank?

I read and gather vaguely that LED and T5 are the most popular choices around, but which is better with your experience?

Came across ATI, and there is a LED/T5 Hybrid, so best of both worlds. Not sure about the cost. but its really like in-between and not taking sides.

What I gather so far, T5 is well-known and proven for its strong lighting, but it seems like LED can do alot more fancy configuration/setting.

It is quite tempting to go along with LED, but at the same time, T5 still seems like the best-value for money. T5 also has dimmable fixtures, so what gives from the LED camp? Hmm..

I read about people changing T5 bulbs due to their limited lifespan, but what about LED bulbs?

I think T5 is cheaper but LED got more features.

Of course combination of both are the best.

Yo bro. Led also have timer and dimmable controls plus all those fanciful mode like thunder, cloud, etc.

Lifespan wise, led is 50000 hours or something like that. But led can lost up to 30% of their intensity in a year.

Aquamarine sell the ATI lights, at 32 Jln Selaseh. Not sure if they are exclusive agent, but I doubt ATI has any exclusive agent here.

Hi, where did you saw the LED/T5 light? Im interested.

ATI Sunpower dimmable also offers timers and dimmable controls, so that actually sounds very adequate.

But I must say that thunder and cloud modes are very tempting cool feature. I thought day/night cycle already very good feature, until I realize LEDs can offer this kind of "weather mode". And must say the interface offered by Radion is very solid marketing, imagine playing god and changing the "weather" from my ipad.

But are LED bulb replacement must more costly than to replace T5 bulbs? any figure to advise?

Bro. Not all led offers replacement light pad de. So easier to buy more wattage than u need and buy new light set after two years.

Yup, it is a very nice and relaxing sat afternoon to watch slow cloud moving over ur tank and watch the fish and coral react to the passing cloud

That I am not sure as I never asked but I see T5 bulbs all over the places, so as long as the dimension of the tube fits, it should be ok. It is not patented technology.

That is very very scary as every light set is $500-$700 for LED. Do you mean just changing the "set of LED bulbs" or really mean changing the entire light set?

Theoritically u can just buy the new lightblub section panel to change lah. But most of the led are all wield together de... so cannot just remove bulb and change them
