bros out there need some advice from you guys, I understand during new tank cycle there is a big chance to have diatoms issue so I will like to know can I do a tank cycle without lighting? my understand is diatoms required not just phosphates but lighting to grow.

is there any good way to avoid growing algae during new tank cycle?

Well you can't run away from algae all tank must go thru it whether it's now or later. Ppl don't run their lights during cycle is because no reason to. So it's up to you . Just prepare for proper way to remove your po4 no3 and silicates if you don't want algae.

Cycling with lights or not will not have any implication. I didnt switch on mine while cycling but mainly because i was saving for that bloodu expensive light. But honestly there is no get away from diatom, part and parcel of Marine life. Just make sure you keep the nutrients in check den u will have less algae problem

I planning to use refugium in the sump to compete the nutrients in the main tank hopefully can reduce the outbreak...

Once cycle is completed will do WC and then put Rowaphos in to see whether help or not...
