Starting a thread to log down the restart progress of my RSR350

After running my RSR350 close to 2 years, I decided to restart my tank due to several reasons.

  1.  Had too much fishes, which translate to too much nutrients
  2. Aiptsia etc

Here's a picture of the tank before the breakdown.

For the restart, I planned to start everything from new again. New rocks, new sand. Pumps, wavemakers and skimmer will be reused and washed in vinegar.

Livestocks were all sold or transferred to my IM Nuvo 10 before proceeding.

After draining the tank, it's time to take out the sand and scrub the tank with vinegar.

Sparkling clean after scrubbing the tank with vinegar. I made a stupid mistake of using the wrong sponge to wipe the top part of the tank, resulting in scratches.....

In the mean time, i soaked my wavemaker/pumps/chillers/skimmer in vinegar for 1 day. All equipment's were cleaned after soaking.

After everything was cleaned and put back in place, I started filling the tank with RO water. Took me about 6-8 hours to fill it completely and used all my remaining salt to get it to 1.025.

This time round, I'm planning to go for zeovit system to help keep the nutrients down. I chanced upon Skimz new automated zeovit reactor and preorder it.

Took this chance to add the Alkatronic to help keep the KH stable.

Equipments:
Lights: Orphek Atlantik V4

Wavemakers: Ecotech MP40wQD

Pump: Ecotech Vectra M1

Skimmer: Nyos Quantum 160

Zeovit Reactor: Skimz ZAR127

KH Controller: Alkatronic

Doser: Coralbox Wifi doser

Chiller: Teco TK500

Started the cycle on 23 Jan 2019 after a long 2 weeks of cleaning everything. Bought caribsea live rocks and caribsea dry argonite sand  (Took me quite long to rinse it till it wasn't milky!)

Tank went through the cycle without any issue and added a foxface on day 10 to test the water.

Kinda regret getting him as he is quite big ! Observed the foxface for the day and he seems alright in the tank.

And the next day.................I went to get this guy.

Yeah some people might think I'm crazy to add an AT so fast but I took the chance as there''s no aggressor in the tank now, so chances of it feeding would increase.

Wasn't looking very good at the store, blues eyes and brownish body color. However, it wasn't shy and I seen it pecking at stuff. So I took the chance to get him.

Brought him home, acclimated and it started feeding on seaweed. It accepted brine/mysis too, but nowadays it ignored those and just go for seaweed.

Here's a current tank shot, corals to be added after CNY!

Plan to modify the sump and add a clarisea roller filter too after cny.

Yeah, I had procrastinated too long on it too. But during the recent xmas sale, I snapped up a few items with discount and started the restart

Here's a pic of the sump!

Everything was stick on using 3M hooks, didn't wanna drill into the stand.

What cHiller are you using

Chiller is a teco tk500. I think it’s undersized for my tank. A better option would be the teco tk1000.

Yess I plan to add corals. But that gotta wait after CNY. Probably adding a copperband and that will be it for my fish stocking.

Got myself a few corals during RR auction!

Started hunting around for SPS now.

Pics taken using my iPhone, pardon the quality.

An update on the AT, so far it's been eating seaweed like mad. Chomping down 2-4 sheets of seaweed everyday, doesn't seem to be full at all. And don't worry, the dots are not ich. Just that my tank glass is dirty :yeah:

Started to have tiny bits of diatom around the sand and rocks too, can't wait it to 'bloom' and disappear.

Current FTS, tank covered in diatoms. Could be my RO/DI fueling them as I noticed 1ppm in the ro/di TDS meter. Time for a filter change.

AT and foxface are both having ich. Constant feeding them seaweed soaked in nori. So far AT appetite is still good and eating alot. Hope it stays this way!

Tank is starting to consume more KH and I setup my doser yesterday. Was pissed off setting up the doser and decided to switch to calcium reactor.  Currently doing manual dosing...

so far shortlisted the items for CaRx.

  • SkimZ CM97 calcium reactor
  • EOA Aluminum Co2 Bundle 2L with Intense regulator
  • Milwaukee SMS122 PH controller

This should be all I need..
