Cloudy water during cycle

Recommended Posts

Good morning , is it normal that during my cycle the water has been cloudy now for 5 days? Trying to use filtration pad ( cotton like) but that would decrease the water flow and make me keep adjusting the main tank valve , are you using this filtration cotton in your sump, between it compartments? Thank you for your thoughts

One of the contributors is bacteria bloom due to excessive organic material. I'd just leave it.

Filter wool won't help because the particles are smaller than the gaps of the filter.

Possible options

  • Wait for the cycle to complete then turn on your skimmer. That should help
  • If it persists beyond the cycle period, UV sterilizer would be very effective to clarify the water.

If you are dosing ammonia or bacteria stop for a few days then start again with smaller dosage.

Cycling is a waiting game so don't need to be too worry.
