Can phytoplankton be cultivated in the sump?

i tried doing so once for short term.. the water did become green so i think it works ? haha.. btw u need to have an air pump. dont know whether fertillizer is necessary though. i use my tank water.

Phyto can't be trapped in the sump. it will flow into your main tank, and I don't think you'll want green water in your main tank. Can share how to grow phyto? I understand it is difficult, that's why I've got to use Instant Algae (dead phyto) to feed my rotifer.
