Hi,

Ive been reefing for approx 3 years le.

I would like to ask why the corals turned brownish over some time?

Is it i need to get the FR? Is this the one that takes away the brown algae?

Sorry i am pretty busy and thus do not read through much about such husbandry.

I changed water every week and for about 3months already have been running without a skimmer due to the beckett base cracked.

Havent got the time to hunt another hiaz

All livestocks are fine. I use iwarna's topup and has coralline too.

Thanks to all replies and your kind attention!

i not expert but I think i read somewhere before, if lighting spectrum 7.5k coral will turn brown but grow very fast. 10k lighting corals color will be best but growth normal.

maybe ur lights too old nvr change? If if ur lights abt yellowish then its e problem.

Most prob lighting issue, otherwise water to much nutrients (phosphate, nitrate) causing zooxanthellae growth but normally coral will expel them.

Hope i'm right. :eyebrow:

1 of the reasons why corals turn brown, is because of insufficient lighting.. corals host more zooxanthellae in order to capture more light to make food for reef building..

these zooxanthellae are the reason why corals look brownish..

of course, if there's excess lighting, coral will naturally expel most of their zooxanthellae, as they need less of the algae to make that same amt of food.. this results in bleaching..

hope that helps.. :)
