you cannot really control whether ornot your clownfish will take a host, and what host they choose.. but normally for most reefers, its only a matter of time..

it would actually help a little if you could tell us what anemone is that.. :)

I played video for my 2 Tomato clowns to watch, few days later one start playing the other starts playing too and the female hosted on it. I added a new anemone after the first one died, the next day the female hosted on the new one already!

Play video ah??? How u go about playing video in the water to let your clown watch?

Pls elaborate. Anyway thanks for your prompt reply.

Using my iphone search "clownfish on anemone" on youtube and play it for my fish at the side of the tank for them to watch. Hope it helps! Got this idea from somewhere when I was wondering why my clownfish doesn't host also.

Wow... Serious ah?

Never heard of such things before wor...

I was quite skeptical about it at first too lol. But its worth a try though lol to trigger their natural instinct. You sure you are using the right anemone? What type of anemone is it?

I forgotten the name of the anemones liao.

But I did ask the fish shop boss what anemones to get if I'm keeping a maroon?

So that's what he recommended to me.Shouldn't be wrong ba! :(

.....or get a large picture of clown fish hosting an anemone, it may trigger their hosting instinct.

Based on the compatibility chart from reefs.org, maroon clownfish will only host Bulb Anemone in the wild.

Hope this helps.

Didn't know there is such a chart... !

Some clowns will take a longer time to get used to the sting of the anemone depending on the anemone and esp if it have gone without for very long... They will slowly coat themselves with mucus and go into the anemone to make sure they dun get stung...

Might be pure coincidence...

Or maybe it works???

there have been many accounts of this method on RC that they claim to have great success..

however, i believe the potency level of the stings have to be taken into consideration too.. i rmbed how it took my old perculas seconds to host a RBTA, but weeks and weeks still refusing to touch the Haddoni even though i plastered tons of pictures around my tank.. one time, it almost got eaten by the Haddoni and lucky i was there to rescue him..<_<
