Bugs in filter sock?

Hi people,

Found a few of these critters in my filter sock when I took it out to wash. They're about 1cm in size.

Not sure where they come from. Harmful to LS?

Likely a Gammarid Amphipod. Mostly beneficial detrivores.

LOL, no problem bro if you don't mind travelling all the way to the east to collect just a few bugs.

I use a cheap clothes scrub brush on the inner surface. After which, leave in chlorine solution overnight. Rinse & hang out to dry.

It is not a problem. they are beneficial to your tank's well being.

Pods should not be considered as a problem... it is beneficial to the reef as a food source to smaller fishes, and they do feed on algae.

If you plan to buy a mandarin fish, pls be prepared to continue to provide it with sufficient pods to feed on, or train it to feed on prepared food such as frozen mysis. They are capable of wiping out a tank load of pods within a short period of time, and would obviously starve to death if no food source is available.

if u want a mandarin, u can try a refugium or culture them in a seperate tank. Or u can wean them on other foods...or buy one that is already weaned on say frozen mysis...
