If don't have market prawn, you can use fish food. it'll decompose to generate ammonia to sustain the cycling process. Otherwise, dying matter in the liverock and livesand will also do the same.

Ths important thing to note now is be patient and wait for the cycling process to complete.

When you start to stock your tank, it is important to add livestock sparingly and gradually. Example - 1 fish every 2 weeks. The reason is that once you add LS, the bioload increases and the beneficial bacterial colony requires some time to reproduce and ramp up to handle the additional bioload. Adding too many LS too quickly will result in too much waste being generated for the bacteria to be able to handle effectively.

So,can I said that stocking of corals can be faster than corals?I intend to stock up 2 to 3 small corals per 2 weeks after cycling.ok to bio-load?

cycling with livesand, liverock and microbacter7 for a week .. haven't put in market prawn yet

no ammonia and nitrite, zero or low nitrate ...

water is topic marine salt mix with ntuc distilled water

but..already got green stuff at the edges of the tank & IOS... should be alage

tank is in a room, no direct sunlight and even cardboard to block light from window in case....

already put in rowas ... gona measure phosphate ... din expect the alage so power

liverock should be mostly cured cos no smell and has been continued curing for 2 weeks after bought from ah beng.

what should be done at this juncture? :ThanxSmiley:

Did you turn on the lights during cycling? there should not be any algae if lights is not turned on.

The bad hikers have to be removed by you either by spraying the heck out of the live rock with a hose when you get it and putting some elbow grease into removing sponges etc or buying live rock which is stripped of all hikers, good or bad. There should be enough good bacteria on the live rock itself to seed the tank. Don't think its necessary to put in flesh that rots eventually. There is no harm in leaving the lights on for 6 hours or so during cycling. Coraline growth is stimulated etc. Better to add two clowns at the same time. If you add just one and you want to add another later you may have a gunfight on your hands.

the shrimp already disappeared last night

just measured nitrate again and reading still 0 or near 0 ... i.e. yellow color using API test kit

:erm:

wait another day or 2 and test again?

still continuing to cure another piece of liverock after more than 1 month of curing cos there is a small bit sort of hair alage, red and green, on it. but the alage very hardy.... 2 weeks of near darkness and 1 week of full darkness still cannot die ...but also never spread ... :fear:

cycled for 3 weeks

cycled with microbater7, fuji pink livesand and cured liverock during 1st week

throw in mysis and added microbater7 end of 1st week

added "advanced party" hermit crab pickup from beach end of 2nd week, fed 2 times with abit of fish food for the whole 3rd week ... still alive and kicking

continue to add microbater7 on 3rd week.

placed a bag of seachem carbon and rowaphos in the IOS ... still considering to use external or hangon filter as fluidized reactor :P

nitrite - 0, nitrate - 0 or near 0, phosphate -0, ph - 8.2

salinity - 1.023

low light

:blink::unsure:

wonder is the cycling ok or not

any advice?

:thanks:

They are considered a llive food source for small fish such as wrasses, damselfish and small angelfish. Since copepods feed on detritus and microalgae, and therefore, they are considered a good form of "bacteria".

cycled for 3.5 weeks

saw some white "ants" moving around on the glass

is it a good sign?

They are copepods bro. They are also main staple for certain fishes.

There are reefers who integrate refugiums just to maintain the population of copepods.

Other purchase live pods from LFS.

at last API nitrate test kit showed 5mg/L ... after 1 month :snore:

Bro just make sure your NH4 and NO2 is zero too.

Just in case if you are unaware, each time you add livestock, the amount of NH4 and NO2 will increase again hence unbalancing your bacteria count.

The more you add, the more unbalance it will be.

Hence the saying of add LS slowly. Just keep on using MB7 when you introduce new LS.

Cheers

Happy Reefing.
