  1. Hi planning to decom and would like to start fragging some of the overgrown corals... Any reefer has any recommendations on how to proceed? Or any good website link / equipment reviews Thanks!
  2. Yeah you are right Although I measure zero, i still have some algae growing which requires me to clean my glass about 1-2 times per week. Hence its probably undetectable by the test kits rather than being truly zero. Agreed that its not about zero nutrients, but rather having low nutrients, enough sustain growth of your corals and minimise nuisance algae growth
  3. Btw. Anyone knows where to get polyplab one cheap? Can pm me Thanks
  4. Hi people Quick update Been a month since december Tested water today Sg 1.025 Temp 26-27 Ph8 Nitrate 0 (api) PO4 0 (salifert) Kh 9 Ca 440 mg 1350 Pretty stable thus far for 2 weeks with daily dosing of polyplab one (1 cap of powder direct into D tank) and microbacter7 (5 drops a day) Not sure if it is the DSB or the biosphere which kicked in to bring nitrates consistebtly down to zero for past month. But its a good result anyway Thanks for your time
  5. Bros, just went NTUC yest, LIFE no longer has offer. One bottle 90c now. But fair price pure has offer, 2 bottles $1.05 Just to confirm that fair price pure drinking water is OK to use right? TDS 0.08 ppm - that was 2012 reading. Anyone has recent reading?
  6. Thanks bunster. I decided to go manual. Save money Just dose polyp lab ONE and monitor levels of consumption, and use microbacter 7 weekly. Convenience
  7. Ya. Some comments in reef central said that world war 3 broke out immediately when a flame was added to a tank with a adapt coral beauty. Haha Will think about it. Maybe wun do it.
  8. Hi people. Just a quick update. Just tested my water over the weekend. pH 8.2 NH3 0 NO2 0 NO3 10 PO4 0,25 (API test kit, but I suspect its 0... probably switch to a more sensitive test kit like salifert? any suggestions) KH 7 Ca > 520. (Been like this since the start. So far no precipitation problems and I expect it to drop once I add more corals, and will probably need to supplement) I think its still kinda early to say that the canister DSB is working... still have nitrate readings currently... I also cheated =x. I added one packet of NP biopellets about 3 weeks ago as well... 1 week after I set up the DSB on the advice given above... Will continue to monitor and see if I can continue to move nitrate levels lower... But I think I use my magnet less frequently now to scrub algae =p Thanks for your time
  9. Bro. Whats B and C? Referring to which brand? Grotech? Red Sea Reef Foundation?
  10. Hi I have a coral beauty currently... If I add a smaller flame angel, should be ok? Any one have experience with this? =) Cheers!
  11. Hi Bros Have not updated on my canister DSB yet, but so far so good. The tank nitrate have gone down to 10 ppm (1 week ago) from 40ppm. Not sure whether its the effect of the DSB, the NP reducing pellets or the water changes (minimal) thus far. The other water parameters have been stable despite addition of some live stock... Will do some water testing soon. Can someone help me decide which will be the best for a mixed reef? I plan on keeping predominantly soft and LPS corals and maybe 1-2 SPS corals (for now). A. Reef Additives: I've been given suggestions of 1. Grotech ABCM 2. Polyplab ONE - Essentially this additives aim to ensure sufficient levels of Calcium, Mg, Trace elements and KH (in the form of bicarbonate) remain available for the corals correct? B. Reef Food - This is to feed the corals? Most corals can photosynthesize, but this is a form of supplement? C. Bacteria - To ensure levels of denitrifying bacteria for nitrite and nitrate remain high in the reef tank correct? Which brand would you guys recommend? D. Doser - What do you guys use for your doser and how do you set up your doser? I'm keen on the Jebao DP-4 doser and plan to set up Ca / Mg / KH and Bacteria on the doser. What is your experience? Cheers!
  12. Yeah main idea is cost savings and space savings. Just a 2 feet sumpless tank iith no refugium. The Atman canister works by driving water down a column thru holes in its trays. By removing the trays and filling up with sand, I think I've effectively nerfed the canister to create circulation only at the top. The bucket DSB can potentially cause crashes. I do not disagree but it has also proved extremely effective for some who used it. Will report on my findings in a week or 2. Cheers and thanks for all the comments
