ya i know it a bit too fast to add so many LS but you know human are like that see wat they like and buy if i got so much sand den i would not have much space for the deco liao now i have 2in of sand but never weigth how heavy is it however can i add bit by bit of the sand to my tank during the process of cycle or the cycle stage is over

hihi i had some sea lice attach to some of my fish this morning and i had to remove it by hand from my fish....before i go to work,,,, does anyone have any idea how it came by i suspect it came for my live rock ???? and how do you guys remove it once and for all but who know after i came back from work all my fish die guess wat the stupit annmone make it way to the powerhead and got itself stuck there resulting all the living things in my tank die and left only a fan worm for me..... now had to recycle my tank again.... not going to buy any annmone liao but while i was clearing my sand bed i found lot of dead crabs some are those red hairy kind, and some small prawns which i never brought them before and worms that ppl use it for fishing think it a rag worm if i not wrong as i also fish. here are my sad memberies of my tanks some comment and advice are welcome that to make sure i dont do the same again for this time round

My first 2ft marine tank gooday to you guys out there i had created a marine tank with sand and SW are fr0m the sea and it had been around for 3 weeks and waiting the expert out there to give some advice and id of some species. bellow is my tank spec. 1. 24"x13"x14" with 6.5kg of live rock, 2in of sand cycle for 1wk, with DIY jet skimmer with a OHF which have mechical filter. and a 2ft normal FL light with a boyu blue light for viewing purpose.. 2. contain x1 1in common clown,x3 1in Yellowtail Damselfish ,x3 cleanner shimps,x1 2in fireface goby and a 2in Blennies or Basslets (id pls) a green frogspwan, an Anemone (id pls), a Feather Duster, a brown N orange polyps lastly a Acropora (which i think) (will my above spec able to cope with my fish bio load?? can i still be able to add some more fish ?? which i dont think so) 3. hope you guys can help me to id some of the species which one of them even is on the live rock when i brought it . below is some of my tank pics pls bear with me cos i still dont know how to post many pics in one post 4. a sad case all my fish die in one day discover it today after work guess who it the cupit it the stupit anemone the make it way to the powerhead that hidden in the cave and JAM resulting as my powerhead over heat and kill all the living things in my tank only left a fan worm for me ..... the image

ok tks will try to take a pic of my tank after i got a CARD READER maybe you guys can give me some tips of placing the LR.. the corals and the spongy stuff came with the LR

i also dont know cos when i press it it squit out water so i guess it a spongy stuff i try my best to describe it i have two type of it ..one is tube the length of the tube is about 2cm and the top about the size of $1 coin when it close up as i goes near it. it also has the so call "tentacles" like "a xmas" (green in colour) (now turning white i guess it going to die soon) when it opens up and in the middle i guess is the mouth which is dark in colour. and it does not moves around .. another is a tube also but it has only one branch i think it has the look of tree coral which i found on the book just only that it have only a branch and it is brown in colour i guess also going to die liao ... as from i know when cycling the tank that time it is always not good to on the light as it promoto the algae growth but if i dont on the light the coral will also die am i saying right ??? and so far i had worms and small white dots "thing" moving around the tank which i think every cycling tank will goes through but what the white dot think call

den what about those red and yellow coralline algae,tube worm and some small spongy stuff on the rock i dont think they are suppose to be taken off. am i right ???

tks but the LR that i brought today are with sea weeds and a small crab but however the crab goes missing and the sea weeds turn white so i think it dies and i remove leaving those that are still green on it am i doing it right

thanks i had just put in about 1in to 2in of sand and 1.2kg of live rock but i have in my mind of have total weight of LR to 5 or 6 kg do you think is it too much

suggest that you read those website some of them teaches you how to make one and (DIY) also

ya it also best to mark off the present level and top up when ever it drop it always better to top up once a week me also doing a same marking the water level with masking tape

hi hi been reading a lot bot deep sand bed here i would like to know if i have a 23in by 11in by 14in tank and like to have a deep sand bed is 3in of sand is enough for the effect of the DSB ?? is it too much or less so far i still cant find any info that show how deep is the sand for a 2ft tank and some suggest 5in but their tank is much more bigger so i think is 3in enough ???

SpiderOne just to let you know the sea is near my house i can affort to go everyday if i dont take the sand sooner over the years they will sent a dradger to dradg the sand away it not that i cant affort it just that if you can save why not as for the environment den why dont you keep try keeping terrapins in a goldfish bowl yourselve cos you also keeping reef fish and corals ... dont tell me the corals can repoduce in farms ??? if can. can it support the whole lots of ppl buying it? as a word no demand there is no supply you just paying money to ppl to collect those LR and coral for you if you can save and i dont mind the effort to take the sand and water why not sorry guys is not that i wan to say this it is as i rear FW for so many years and as a newbie trying to save as much as i can trying to ask is it ok to take sand and water from sea in the end being frame it not being helpful at all

ok maybe i just get the live sand and rock from sea but is those rock with barnacles is it consider LR or must those with alger or corals on it den consider LR

ok noted thanks for the reminder corals buy better and nicer maybe go dive for live rock better when the tide it right

changfra for me i usually wash the sand with FW a few time den use warm or hot water to rinse the last time but from some books they suggest to boil the sand that for your info as for Dazza i collecting the sand from the beach so far using it for my 2 4ft tank about 2" deep still ok just that it very heavy if no car , me taking bus so need to traval lot of time to get the depth of sand i wan

i staying at sengkang so the sand collected will be at pounglo end there as they have just reclaim the beach and the sand if i not worng are brought from indo or malaysia the sand is pure white and very fine depend on which area of the deach you collecte it as for the water at certine time of the month the water there is very clean and clear that have to depend on the tides. because i go there often

hihi as i read up a lot on setting up new marine tank. it always state that it need to cycle the tank but most of you all are turing FW to SW. however i am staying near the sea so i think of if i could use the SW and the sand collected there to cycle the tank so it might shorten the cycle time as i believe. however i knew that there is a risk of taking them as the sea might contain harmful pollutent etc. so question is it worth the risk of it or not. cos some ppl told me it ok to take from the sea you put in a few fish to try first if nothing happen den it save ?? another way i could think of is some farm are selling SW at 1.5 to 2.0 dollars per bag so i think of mix them with the SW that i collected as when i mix it does not contain so much of pollutant etc. and if i collect the sand from beach can i wash it with FW and warm water to kill the germs first (that wat i do from my FW tank) den put into the tank but if i wash it with FW and warm water will the bact. on it die?? which i believe it will that all teh question i would like to ask now as i planing to change to marine fish
