You have to let the resin tumble in the container. ... do not pack it like sardine

Do note that different resin will have different result. Good resin can treat more water and does not leach the impurity back

I would prefer to drill slightly above the water line.... Maybe less then 5mm above water line... and the hole cannot be too ssmallat least 3mm or bigger If you drill below water line. . Before it break siphon your sump might already flooded..
