  9. even bullets can't fly through the fish? I am sorry for your friend who had such a bad experience but if a seller utters that sort of words to me I think I would have just burst out laughing in abject mock horror at his face. Rule of thumb when buying is to always view it first... sellers who don't allow viewing usually have something fishy going on.. even if cannot go into the house, can bring out in a pail to see before buying.. how troublesome is that honestly?? . Equipment is rather subjective as it depends on what the seller is willing to disclose especially if said item has already been disconnected from system and set aside. Sometimes the ravages of disuse/time will cause the item not to work when it did before. Otherwise just buy from ppl u know and trust.. save allot of trouble. Besides Singapore reefing scene is small.. word will get around sooner or later if the seller (in this case) does not come forth to clarify the matter. good luck getting a resolution.
  10. nice tank but did you consider using compressor? For the water volume and the position of your tank.. I think a compressor would cool down your tank in a much faster time frame
  11. I dont understand why LFs-es sell nudibranches when the possiblity of survival in captivity is quite low unless by some freak of a chance you get the correct sponge to feed it. I even remember the personnel at the shop tell me that as long as I buy any sponge it's no problem!
  12. Grats wilson.. I'm glad the lightset is being put to good use than collecting dust in my store room. LOL
  13. Erm.. don't the bottles themselves have instructions written on them? If powder form then usually just dissolve in tank water in a seperate container and pour into the sump. If liquid , there will be recommended dosages written on the bottles.
  14. i'm sorry to burst your bubble but if you know nothing, then don't buy anything. You will simply be wasting your money and killing the livestock you have. Read up first. salt water is not like fresh water. It is poles apart in terms of husbandry. There are newbies who bought a "setup" and within days everything died. There are some pinned topics and you can use google to find good articles to read on basic marine husbandry. Do your research first before attempting the hobby. btw, I am assuming the mini tanks you are refering to are things like the IQ5 or or so which hold about 15-20L of water depending on the size of all the range of these small tanks available in the market.
  15. you did the right thing eventually.. having 4 BT in such a small tank is not good in the long run. Best to read up on the fish combination before you buy. Save you time and money and the hassle of having to resell.
  16. 3L of water? Such a small volume. why don't you just get an ice probe from coolworkz?
  17. very nice setup. love the school of yellow tangs... very david saxby. How do you do maintenance on such a deep tank? I am in awe of your back breaking work. I also use gravity feed to my skimmer.... and the pressure from the IOS is strong enough Klim as my skimmer is external and not internal.
  18. sorry to be a wet blanket, but I have to advise caution and you have to constantly check to make sure your tank glass do not start to warp as your glass being 6mm is really way too thin for a 3 footer tank. Salt water is much heavier than Fresh water and you risk it suddenly giving way leading to one heck of a mess in your living space. We don't know whether there is any bottom bracing since your pics show everything covered with sand but i have a feeling that this tank was initially used for Fresh water means most likely there is no bottom bracing as well. On top of that you have a hang on skimmer as well which adds to the stress of the glass. So in this respect, I have to say to please err on the side of caution
  19. observe your fish behaviour, 2 nets and a bit of luck to corner the fish.
  20. hey aby, it's been quite a while... you have moved house? Where are you now!!! NICE looking tank!! you went CR too I see. your over head lighting fixture looks very interesting.. like no support on one side.. LOL looking good!!!!!!
  21. this happened to me twice... and it was velvet. the only fish that survived the onslaught was my tomato clown which I did extreme Hypo treatment on it with pure DI water for 3-5 mins daily for 2 weeks or so and then I put it back into a little pail with an airstone after every Fresh water dip. I left my small tank ( at the time it was a 60L system) fishless for about 3 weeks ( did 1 Major WC as well) or so before reintroducing my tomato clown back. The extreme Hypo treatment for the fish is also a risk as depending on the health of your fishes they may die from the treatment. But if you do nothing, the fish is going to die anyway so it's really luck what will happen whichever path you take. good luck for the rest of your livestock.
  22. my tangs love TLF green seaweed... get that next time.
  23. Hey don't be disheartened.. I was one of those that started out with JM and you know what... I wasted more money than you. LOL But I too came here and other websites and learnt my way around. I survived using their tank for 2 years before going all the way with a 4 footer after much reading up. After 6 months of using the JM tank or so,I threw out the internal QSS and bought an external hang on REd SEA prizm skimmer with media basket ( there are other hang on skimmers around like from Tunze or BM.. so read up!!) to put in some chemical media ( limited though it is). It set free far more open space in that tiny tank. I feel that their tank is too small to incorporate a sump or refuge, I have heard of others using Canister filters to do the job of mechanical and chemical filtration on top of a hang on skimmer. Learnt about Water Change and realised the filters I got from them was crap as well....because of my much bigger system now, I got myself a 5 stage RO/DI unit instead to make pure water for my fish. I also threw out the lights and at the time got myself better T5 lights form Gisseman. But now with the option of LED, I would suggest you go for LED instead. Less heat. Especially in spore weather. Get yourself at least 1 wavemaker too ( to me Tunze is most reliable as other brands I tried .. the "power" tends to die as time goes by). Again, MANY Brands out there to choose from for Wavemakers and LED. Choose one which fits your budget and needs. Thing is.. about this hobby you need to read up ALLOT.... and go look at reefers Tank threads ( there is a member tank thread forum here).. not just from this website but also in Reef Central ( a US one).. because there are times when things will work in another reefers tank but won't work in yours. Don't be ashamed to ask or PM people but do your homework first to have some idea of the issue at hand as well. This is a hobby that really requires allot of patience, some luck and sometimes you need to throw some money as well... LOL
