  1. Hmmm i think im using one of those as its like a compressor unit but for some reason only 1 of the pipes is working. as in when i lift it up i can see it freeze up (mine comes with 2 pipes leading to a big titanium coil) Since last night it could only cool down till 28.8 degrees... hence its been on the whole night... hence im actually thinking its either to get it repaired or to just get a new chiller ... provided it consumes less power. hmmm wonder if its cos of lack of gas.... Thanks for your input tineng
  2. Hi, Was wondering if anyone could share with me a power efficient brand of chiller for a 6 X 2 X 2.5 tank? Cos my electricity bill is ridiculously high with this titanium coil/compressor chiller i have currently. 400-500 a mth.... dunno if im doing anything wrong but i was talking with one of the reef sponsors a few weeks ago and he mentioned that one of his setups has a 5 feet tank with about 800w of mh lights and his bill is only 120. thx in advance for all the replies
  3. Hi, Ive been keeping a 6 footer FOWLR tank with a few angels for abt 1 year now. Recently i went to an LFS and my wife saw the coralline totally encrusting the rocks in the display. Granted that that tank was setup to keep SPS. But shes been asking me if its possible to cultivate the coralline algae on my rocks as well. My impression is that its only possible with a calc reactor. but i was wondering if any of you experienced reefers can share some experiences with mayb dosing addictives method or any other.... or is calc reactor the only way to go! My rocks are pretty much brown with a few rocks covered by some coralline. Currently i do not have any algae problems, i also do not have actinic lights. I do have 2 X250w MH on my hood. Ive been doing some reading and it seems blue actinic lights helped alot. But since i dun have it, i was wondering if its still possible Thx
  4. Hi all ASM G3 for $500 used for 3 mths from September till Dec 2005 and has been sitting in my store room for the last 3 mths lol Red Sea Prism Skimmer $100 has been sitting in my storeroom for a year. I have tested both and are both in good working condition. Pls Pm me or sms me at 96933100
  5. Bro zep, Whats the kent supplement that u feed. could u let me know the name. i may wanna try it seems hes still alive and eating
  6. Its still eating and active as per normal. but the gil hasnt healed. No other signs of itch or velvet or anything no cloudy eye or anything. His body is clear and his color is still vibrant. im desperate. been soaking omega 1 pellets in garlic guard in a hope he recovers. i have changed another 25% of water. problem is i cant catch him out of the tank. its way too big and i cant move my rocks. SIgh...... i really took alot of care in selection and acclimitizing and even water conditions and suddenly this had to happen. He is a great fish. chose him over a length of time observing his habits and when i brought him home after abt 3 hrs acclimitizing him he ate immediately. Now jus 3 weeks down the road it seems bleak.
  7. Hi, My queen angel suddenly developed a weird disease yesterday. One of his gills is not working and hes using the other gill to breath very hard. hes still alert and still eats like normal but i can see its bothering him as hes been going to the cleaner shrimp for cleaning more frequently. Has anyone encountered this before? Ive checked my Parameters: Ammonia Undetechable Nitrite Undetechable Nitrate 0.1 ive just changed abt 25% of water and im wondering if there is any way to treat it or am i just being paranoid?
  8. Hi, I find it really back breaking to carry pail after pail to change water for my 6 feet tank. i was wondering if anyone of u bros had a better method that u could share thanks.
  9. hi all, ARGH!! i cleaned my glass today with my magnet cleaner and i think a grain of sand probably got caught in between and i scratched my glass. its a huge scratch thats 10 cm long. i was wondering if any bro can advise me of anyway to like mend the scratch or cover it!! also if i cant do anything abt the scratch, do u think it will grow longer over time? anyone with experience care to share. it is quite visible and pretty deep. so scared it will grow longer and crack over time!!! PS: Magnet Cleaners are the bane of the earth now!!
  10. lol tineng, you are very right. my wife is so angry atm i cant talk to her. the price of the whole setup doesnt help either.
  11. lol thx for all the reply guys. hmm mayb i should construct a durso pipe. whoami: the sound is like a hollow waterfall sound... so that means both sound... Also dun mind me asking how long have you got yr bioballs in the overflow and does it become a nitrate factory?? keithtanbb: i have no idea the plastic bag trick is ehhe i guess i should go read up on durso pipes now. everyone
  12. Hi guys, Was building my new 200gallon tank and i realised i calculated everything and designed the way i like the tank except now i face 1 unforseen problem.... The water that goes to the overflow tank is so loud and my wife has been complaining. I was told by a friend that putting bioballs will lessen the sound. But im quite skeptical as i thought bioballs will lead to a nitrate factory. Any suggestions u guys have to lessen the noise??? my 6 footer is powered by 2 x ehiem 1262 pumps and its soooo loud ..... Thx help pls!!!!
  13. hmmm, it seems that i would need the following equipments at the initial phase: Tank, skimmer, chiller, lights, pumps. (dunno if i left out anything else, gotta check) And only when the tank is matured and stable should i add in a calc reactor?? BTW is having 2 skimmers good? cos im planning to get a beckette and i hav a ASM G3 skimmer in my 3 feet atm which i believe is pretty handy as well since i will prob shut down the 3 feet and give the tank to my dad to rear his goldfish lol. Anyway thx for the advice guys!!!!
  14. Thanks for all the reply guys! Yes im aware of the costs of running a 6 footer. i think ive spent like 6-8 k on my setup for my 3 footer marine tank alone. Yea i was thinking of putting aside 10k. BTW is it true that 250W bulbs wont substain for a 6 footer?? Cos i had the impression that if it was only 2 feet in depth it would be alrite. I understand that over time the collection of SPS and all will cost much more due to the overgrowing marine tank passion ehhe. But im really curious abt lights and calc reactor cos i spent like 700 on my 3 footer 150 W lights and was wondering what the dmg is for a 3 bulb 6 footer set of lights. As for calc reactor i have never used it before. Ive spoken to a few LFS and to be honest i really dunno which brand or model to look carefully at as i feel some of them are jus pushing it for sales.... Other than that i intend to slowly create a SPS heaven. Probably in 8-12 mths after i setup the 6 footer. At the start im jus planning to port over all my fishes and get the system stable and running first.\ or possibly look into a DIY solution. Thanks for all the advice guys. This community is awesome!!!
