  1. What's at the bottom of the tank? Sand? coral chips? or bare bottom? This is very messy job! If the mercury leaks into the tank, for sand or Coral chips bottom, you will probably have to throw them away or those in the area. Bearing in mind that mercury is very heavy, after throwing out the chips or sand, it will still be settling at the bottom. Using a suction hose (don't use mouth to suck!!) will not help to siphon it out as usually it is too heavy to be picked up, you may have to look for a capillary suction tube and hand pump (those use in chemical laboratories). Time is crucial, though it will take time for the mercury to contaminate the water and tank, you may still get away with mercury poisoning if you are fast in removing it or else, livestocks, corals will perish over time. After successful removal, for the next few weeks do regular water changes. If tank is small, suggest that you dump all and restart, because the concentration of contamination will be much higher than bigger tanks. There is also no harm trying to salvage, you may be lucky and get away with it. Observe for your LS of any mutation. juz kidding on the last line!!
  2. Great to hear that! Btw, do you have an overflow system? I am just a goondu guessing that you might not? I had set my venturi pump to the skimmer to draw water from near the surface, creating a small vortex, bringing in all the protein and stuff into the skimmer. Maybe you can try that for the time being until it clears out? Noticed that this clears the protein in the water and on the surface much faster than leaving the pump in the tank itself.
  3. Just read in the papers that some girls got fungal infection after visiting public fish SPA. Maybe it makes sense to maintain our own fishes. I am always sceptical about visiting such establishment because the water cannot be sterilised.
  4. Take a look at one of the pix in my 'signature'. My female clown had snuggled up with a tube worm as I do not have any anemone.
  5. I did encounter LS itching whenever the sand is stirred, as what Henry mentioned, siphoning the sand will minimise the stirring of the sand is probably the best way, at the same time you will be able to use some of the live sand to set up your new tank.
  6. During cycling with LR, I always like to have a shrimp or 2 to help in the area cleaning.
  7. I was at CF looking for a Sea Cucumber 2 weeks back too, but was not successful in acquiring as they are all quite huge. I even joked with the Auntie that I am salivating, because they looked so good in a pot! I had seen some in Jireh as well, but,......... I ended by getting a Tiger Tail from Henry, but this one is nice, but a lazy bugger which only sticks its head around its hiding to clean, hardly move around like the black ones.
  8. I'm no expert with these distilled water, but have you checked the bottle contents, they would have indicated the pH as well. Just for confirmation sake.
  9. No Kidding!!! Did you do a retest, or any contamination? pH 10 is far too alkali, at most I have seen is about pH8. If this persist, you got to get the Power Supply to do something. But then again, there are many who buy devices to produce Alkali Water to drink. This is for health reason, especially those cancer patients.
  10. Not ready for the Spotted Stingray yet, as the sharkie needs the space. Moreover the sources cannot get one that is small enough (about 6" or less). Not intending to upgrade soon as my kid is still small, the risk of drowning in a bigger and deeper tub is much higher. If these Babes gets too big, like what I always do for the Golden Trevallys and afew others, I will release it somewhere offshore with good reefs, few Anglers and netters, at times with the help of other divers' friends.
  11. Bro Ultraman, When you advertise in forums, you have to expect that such things are likely to happen, as seen in many other forums, eg. in eBays, car forums, IT forums,etc..etc... As long as the buyer have not paid or item not transacted, they have the right to exercise the withdrawal of purchase. As a seller, you have to expect that. That is the reason WHY many seller would want the buyer to do self collection near to the sellers place. If they come, take it, if they don't, so be it! You should have seen those seller who travel much distance to deliver, and yet the buyer never show up! Be cool about it, no point scarring your face and displaying dissatisfaction in the public forum trying to vent your unhappiness and shaming others, as you are probably going to be the only one who is upset. Chill out, ok, bro? and CHEER UP!
  12. Hi guys, just piggyback the thread. What about those chemical treatments to be mixed into the tap water. Are they any good? I am currently using that temporarily as my R/O filament core life is up. The replacement is costing afew hundreds and I am thinking of surrendering it (actually mainly used for home cooking). in advance for any advise.
  13. Past and present, have tried keeping 3 times so far. Amazing thing is each of them disappeared into crevice at 7pm SHARP to sleep. Problem is that all the 3 disappeared after 2-3 months, with only 1 body found! Feeding well, but quite prone to infections, or probably they pick up the bugs and could not clean themselves?
  14. You mean the SPA fish? Have seen someone advertise outside an aquarium shop in Farmart. Very expensive, but cannot remember the exact $$$.
  15. Technically, if you are going by those colour test kits (estimates) yes it is quite possible. If you are thinking of realistic 0ppm, that is almost impossible if you have any forms of livestocks, vertebrates and invertibrates, unless, you can stop them from producing waste?
  16. What if it's the other way round? Not racist, ok? Juz humour.
  17. I have a 3-4" Flathead a.k.a Lizard, caught off East Coast more than 3 weeks ago, wanted to give away, or else will be releasing it back to sea. Interested party pls SMS me at 97479788. Self collect at Bukit Panjang area, after 7pm. Warning: Stalking Carnivor ! Not recommended for tanks with shrimps less than 1", but a real coward towards boxer shrimps.
  18. Very real and heart wrenching question! My style is to slowly add bags of ice ice into the small container with the fish to chill the water to slow down it's Metabolism rate, and let it hibernate before adding more ice to chill it out to death. Fish are cold blooded, will not be as susceptible to temperature 'shock' as mammals. Last time I did it was on my 2ft Redtail catfish three months ago, which for no apparent reason was found floating around, dying over the night!
  19. Erh, they meant to say that these poisonous fellas are not allowed to be on sale in shops.
  20. Hi guys, I am looking for a 1or 2mm customised wetsuit, as most ready made does not fit my belly and shoulder at the same time . Kindly advise if there is any place where they provide good worksmenship and reasonable price?
  21. Congratulations to your ...............new born?
  22. Just like when changing water, 15litres each time, I add the premix solution by siphoning with a tiny hose (those used for aeration). Though it is a very slow process, I guess that will reduce chances of shock. For your Nano, perhaps you can dose the same way, and if kiasi abit, add a paper clip or cloth peg on the hose to slow down the flow (just make sure the paper clip or peg don't drop into the tank and forget about it). I know of people premix and keep it for afew days without aeration, but advise is not to keep it for too long, eg. >5days, as some do encounter smelling. For me I do believe aeration to the premix is good for your tank as the solution will be air rich. For me, I do it mainly to 'burn' off the chlorine from the tap water, in a Jerrican with activated carbon. Not a pail, because the aeration will cause higher evaporation loss rate and splatter, making the whole place sticky, or insects who do Kamikaze attacks!
