  1. Purple tangs going extinct meh? Why make this kind of statement?
  2. Anyone at lck today know the price of the sunburst anthias and pink margin wrasse?
  3. Super cute 1 inch joculato at cf! Feeding on pellets already. Some of the moorish idols also already on pellets
  4. I mix mine with Coral Balance to dose together (both at 50% dose each) and it's a pain to dissolve. As per bro Evolutionz's sharing above - FM owner says it's not necessary for it to dissolve fully to be effective. What I do is that I mix it in tank water and stir for about a minute. Coral Balance tends to clump into little "balls" so I will crush them against the side of the container while mixing. After a minute, most of it is suspended as a cloudy liquid and I just pour that into the return compartment of my sump. The water flowing into the return compartment eventually breaks all the leftover "balls" apart and the entire suspension is delivered into the tank via return pump. Anything not dissolved tends to float, so the return pump will not be able to suck it in to send it to the tank. I dose before I sleep at night and by morning, my return compartment is clear.
  5. New scape completed! Heavily inspired by this:
  6. Wow where did you get the white tail bristletooth tang from bro? I've been looking for it for awhile
  7. very nice purchase bro! I was eyeing this piece too saw you there picking zoas on shipment day - you came over to talk to my friend
  8. It's been awhile, doesn't seem to be much interest in my tank Back reporting in nonetheless! Things have been going relatively well in my tank. I lost a few colonies to rtn, but other than that and some persistent cyano problems, the tank is well stocked and running well. However, a reefer's hands are always itchy and for various reasons I am doing a massive overhaul of the tank. Here is what the tank looks like now The new scape is sitting on my Mahjongg table now being finalized. Hope to get it all done tomorrow and into the tank by the public holiday next week! Here's also a sneak preview of the project that DE Aquatic is doing for me now. Kudos to Razali for taking my idea and turning it into reality! It should be ready in time for the new scape I need suggestions for what t5 tubes to use to accompany my Hydra52. Do you think this will work better than a Powermodule Hybrid?
  9. My phosphate seems to be rising disproportionately to the Redfield ratio, to the extent that it seems ultraphos addition can't keep up either. I may dose nitrate instead to control phosphate if I can get a calcium nitrate order in. Coral Balance description says that it binds phosphate, so I'm hoping it will bind up phosphate in addition to the Redfield ratio, so that's an additional source of phosphate control. Based on Claude and Vinny's posts on other forums, I suspect Reef Vitality contains a carbon source too, so I'm not exiting carbon dosing per se. The official message from FM is that zeolight controls nutrients by boosting coral uptake, that's why I am only switching after my coral mass is larger. Low coral mass won't be able to handle enough nutrients in my opinion, though RV seems to contain a carbon source too. Hope this answers your queries
  10. So it's been awhile, sorry for the lack of updates! It just didn't seem there was much interest in my tank so I didn't follow up Stuff happened, and I've so far dealt with a white spot outbreak, disaster in my QT tank, cyano and hair algae outbreaks and an accidental alk spike to 13+ dkh! I've also upgraded the lighting with a 2nd Hydra 52 as I didn't like the shading that the single LED and my scape was giving. Here's a recent fts: As you can see, there's still some hair algae on the Gyre. No idea why my phosphates are going up while nitrates remain undetectable when all I'm feeding is NLS pellets. The only other things going into the tank are the FM additives. Very strange. I also need to rehome all the colonies currently on the sand bed, and also reduce some of the pink/purple corals and replace them with more green/yellow and blue colonies to achieve a better colour contrast. This week I started the switch from FM Ultralith to FM Zeolight system. I've heard good stuff about Reef Vitality and Coral Balance, and as mentioned above the Ultralith probiotic system was very good in dropping nutrients initially, but then couldn't keep up with phosphate even with the use of UltraPhos. Hoping that the Zeolight system works out better. Still lots of work to be done!
  11. Looking to sell a large green pocci colony. Size is slightly smaller than 2 of my closed fists. There are a couple of small fanworms that have made their home in this colony as well. Selling to make way for other colonies to fit the colour scape of my tank. Tank recently went through a number of issues (change of lighting, cyano and hair algae problems etc) so the colony isn't at its best condition now, but definitely has alot of potential when fully recovered. Bought at $80, selling at $50. Collection at my place near Ikea Bt Merah/ABC Market. Picture of the colony taken this morning: Picture of the colony taken when just purchased (to show potential of colony):
  12. If white shit and swollen anus likely to be internal parasites, though that doesn't explain the cloudy wate (unless they were thrashing about the sand due to discomfort and stirred up debris). Alternatively, are you certain your eels can do well long term in brackish water? It could be long term side effects of hyposalinity on the eels?
  13. I've got 2 tuxedo urchins in my 2 month old tank, and I find them very useful in eating film algae off the glass and back wall. No issues with them eating coralline as it's still growing fast on my rocks.
  14. Thanks for dropping by Dave, I think what you're doing is awesome and probably what holds me back the most from trying your lights out (I've been looking into them since the beginning of the year) is really lack of local support plus too many power cables We actually have the same issue here with Kessils (lack of local support, not the power cables) as Kessils are being brought in by a hydroponics farm and not a distributor in the aquarium industry, which makes Kessils very rarely used locally. Seems like 2 very popular US options (I see Nanobox and Kessils recommended over Radions and Hydras all the time on Reef Central) are barely used in Singapore. I would like to point out again that I'm definitely not dissing your light, but just highlighting that a review/comparison done by the creator of one of the lights in question inevitably raises the question of bias. In fact, I was just looking at your site yesterday, looking into getting a Mini or Duo (especially after jasyu's great review) since I just moved my Hydra26 from my nano to my wife's tank (she wanted to upgrade after seeing me adjust my light settings from office via the Director and MyAI) but the aforementioned 2 issues are making me think really hard (plus my inherent laziness in having to change the plug heads from US pins to UK 3-pins). I'm also particularly interested in your hybrid fixtures and am really hoping that you can expand the range to include bigger fixtures beyond the current 2 foot fixtures only so that I can use it for an upcoming project .
  15. You can acclimate upwards no more than 0.01 to 0.02 salinity daily till it reaches desired salinity
  16. No la, must see how boundaries are drawn. If TS wear white, maybe Pasir Ris also considered West
  17. I've read that thread too when doing research on the Nanobox. He doesn't mention Hydra26 and XR15W as he is only picking 1 competitor in each category to comment on - what he feels is his biggest competition. However, if you look at the table he created, he listed the Hydra26 in the Medium category and the XR15W in the Nano category (which is a weird categorization if you ask me, since the XR15W is more than double the wattage of the Nanobox Mini and is comparable to the Hydra26), showing that they are more than viable competitors to the Nanobox series. In my opinion, the competitor he chooses to highlight in each category is not his "biggest competition" as he states, but the one he is able to find the most things to say good things about his light vs the other one. For example, why is he picking the Kessil in the Medium category when, for example, the Hydra 26 is cheaper even with the controller option and has 7 controllable channels vs his 2-4 channels? I'm not saying that the Nanobox is not a good light - I do believe that it is, and its loyal following proves this point. However, I feel that it is not accurate to use that comparison post that is created by the Nanobox owner. It is natural that he would rate his own light as the best. Especially here in Singapore where we have to import the Nanobox plus run the risk of warranty issues - not saying Dave won't honour warranty, but sending parts back and forth is time consuming and costly - we have to admit that the other options we have here with direct distributor support are at least equal if not better options relatively speaking.
  18. For SPS, stability is key. You may not be able to guarantee 100% accurate mixing with every single water change. Fluctuations in parameters with each water change may be detrimental to your SPS. It's better to keep parameters stable by choosing a good salt with little to no batch issues, then using a calcium reactor or dosing pump to supplement what the salt lacks.
  19. Thanks for the detailed writeup jasyu! Reason I am asking is that I'm currently using a Hydra 26 over my 50x30x30 cm office nano tank, but my wife wants to upgrade her 322 tank lighting to 2x Hydra 26. I'm thinking of whether to just buy the 2 Hydra 26s for her, or buy 1 Hydra 26 and use my current Hydra 26 for her tank, and perhaps buy a Nano Box for my office nano. Mounting wise I'm using the stainless steel mounting bar sold by Madpetz, which allows me to hang my Hydra 26 parallel to the front of the tank. I also already have a controller. Based on the above, it seems like getting a Nano Box would be a much more expensive option for me and the only positive difference it makes for me is the additional cyan led (Hydra 26 comes with green). For the Radion, I haven't checked on the price yet, but I thought the S$1XXX price is for the XR30w not the XR15w. Once again, thanks for your feedback!
