  1. Hi fellow reefers (and newbies), I am going to decomm my marine tank and giving away all equipments & livestocks for FREE. You will need to take the whole package, all the equipment, cabinet, liverocks and livestocks still inside the tank. Bring along a friend to help you carry, and make sure your transport is large enough to carry all stuff. Also bring along a battery operated air-pump (with air-stone and tube), as on the actual day of the move, I will extract and discard 80 to 90% of the water so as to lighten your load ... you will need the battery operated air-pump to keep the fishes alive during transportation. Target date to give away: Sunday 24-Jan-2010, at 1pm, at my house in Pasir Ris. Details of stuff to give away FOC (as one whole package): - JBJ HQI 28 gallons nano tank - Cabinet for the above tank - Live sand and live rocks in tank - Clown fishes and Damsels and Morrey Eel - Homemade Coil Denitatrator - UV lamp As the above stuff are given away FOC, you will need to accept everything in an "as-is" condition. Equipments working or not, you will need to verify yourself. Contact me at Email address: cosmojason (at) gmail.com I do not check the messages in this forum that often. Please contact me via the gmail email listed above. P/S. Chiller NOT included (that item already sold)
  2. Currently I am using a coil denitrator, works over a longer term at much lower cost. AZ-NO3 darn expensive.
  3. AZ-NO3 works very well ... but you MUST have a good skimmer. The reaction caused by AZ-NO3 binds the NO3 into DOC in the water that needs to be skimmed and removed by your skimmer. Or else, if left inside the water, soon it will enter back into the water as NO3. Do not overdose though, your fishes will die. It depletes Oxygen level in the water if you overdose. If you see that your water is cloudy after dosing a large amount of AZ-NO3, you have overdosed, and your fishes will be fighting hard just to breath; change water immediately.
  4. There's one guy (American) that did squeeze a DOC9002 into the center compartment of the JBJ28G HQI. Search for the thread at Reefcentral. I read about it (got pictures), about 1 to 1.5 years back.
  5. need to have filter wool man, the amount of fish poo, quite a lot even after just 2 days. if DOC 9002 goes into the center compartment, your powerheads going to get clog very fast.
  6. Resun CL280, is it suitable for you? I only used it for 3 months, and I converted my tank into FOWLR.
  7. The JBJ 28G HQI stock skimmer is a very decent skimmer (considering that it is air driven). Once I was keeping squid in my tank, and when they are stressed, they squirt black ink which caused the visibility in the tank to drop to almost zero. The stock skimmer clears up the black ink, and skim it ALL out of the water within 15 to 20 mins. Very respectable. After using it for a while, and seeing results ... I decided not to purchase the Tunze DOC9002 which I was considering. The air pump unit that came together with your JBJ 28G, it has 2 air outlets. One outlet will have a stronger air output than the other, connect the skimmer to the stronger output, and connect another airtube with airstone to the other output, drop the airstone into the water column at the back, to oxygenate the water further.
  8. Go to Google and do a search on the following key words: "DIY coil denitrator" I just build myself one DIY unit for approx SGD70 (including buying a new power head / pump for the unit) Managed to get a second hand FR for cheap, which makes the task much easier. Once you get the unit properly set up, adjusted, cycled ... it works wonder, and you can save lots of money by delaying water changes. You can get all the info you need on how to DIY it, set it up, adjust it and operating it, all from the web. PS. one thing that most website did not mentioned is that you need to keep the unit under wraps, the bacterial cannot be exposed to light. Just in case you using a clear transparent FR too, need to cover it up.
