  1. Hi,

I am still have doubts about these 3 parameters. My question is, KH = ALK? If i did a test on KH, should i get another test kit for ALK? For some reasons, i couldn't get a result from my Redsea ALK test kit.

    Tks.

  2. Bro,

I had a 2.5~3 inch Bicolour Blenny looking at $7.

Collection at my flat void deck near Bukit Batok Driving Center.

    PM if interested..

    Cheers.

    bro, pic?

  3. you don't need any special implement to dose supplements, just throw it in. the instructions will tell you how much, usually in high flow area to let it disperse around the tank, some they will recommend to put in sump instead of directly into the tank.

And by liquid supplements I am assuming you meant liquid Magnesium or carbonate additives etc?

Or are you talking about rotifers and coral food? For food, I just throw in and let the wavemakers do their job.

The only time you need a syringe is for target feeding of mysis/brine/frozen foods to certain corals..

Thank bro, for the detailed explaination...i'm getting a better idea now.

  4. My ammonia is 0.25 ppm

    nitrite is 0.1 ppm

    nitrate is 40 ppm

    1. should i do 50% water change now?

    2. When i salt mix with DI water, do i need to leave it overnight?

    3. Should i wait till my ammonia and nitrite become 0ppm then i can conclude my water is completed?

  5. I asked only coz liquid food/supplements are normally just dosed into the tank in a high flow area for wavemaker to distribute to all areas of the tank.

We normally only squirt more meaty foods (Like Mysis, Henry's etc.) for LPS and NPS corals to target feed them.

i see.... still learning .... anyway.. ok lah.. thanks again.

  6. bro, since you bit the bullet (hehe), just be ready for the clogging depending on what you're feeding. as mentioned earlier i had to increase the tip hole size so mysis and brine or diy food can go through without clogging. oh yeah, and sand too as you were intending :heh:

i think i will be feeding liquid supplements using the turkey baster.. if there's a need to feed meaty foods i will use the prong at the tip to feed loh... do not understand the clogging issues you had... anyway tks bro.

  7. never used them before so cannot comment on it.

I have tried Pura complete and its quite good. ( a combo of carbon and phosphate remover)

mechanical sponge?... most of them are about the same ..

Try to use a filter sock in your RSM if you can.

    highly effective.

you use only Pura complete for your tank??

  8. ???? what would contaminate the water? you're not even sure yourself??

well, it really is your choice on the equipments you use but why are you in such a hurry to buy the turkey baster?

bros, i want to get the things ready... cos next month i am on project onward.... very busy ...no time to visit LFS...

  9. i tot u done your thorough field trips?...AM's 3ft RSM tank @ $1400 plus comes with chiller, skimmer, additives...etc...wat...

skimmer, additives and other accessories is bundle with the RSM system... i asked victor and he did not tell me $1400 comes with chiller. anyway i got my RSM with chiller too.. exceed my budget because i did some upgrade... etc vortec MP10.. and this and that...

  10. I am curious though, bro kk, why did you buy the $39 sea squirt and call it a good investment when Poomoon's 2nd reply about it to this thread wasn't a good review? I would have thought Ray's recycled balloon stick worked better.

Anyway, personally, I buy a $1.60 60ml syringe from Guardian and attach a tube to it, can use both for feeding and blowing detritus from rocks haha.

because i read somewhere in this forum sgreef, mentioned by bros, in the long term, it will contaminate the water... something like this... by the way i got mine for about $35 after discount.

  11. i tot u budgeted $2k for this?...or is it 2,000 yen?....after much advice from reefers down here...u chose to get the RSM tank...

exceed my budget... i nvm know i must get DI system, must get turkey baster, must this and that test kits... must get a chiller... must get this and that....

my fresh water tank so easy and cheap to maintain...

anyway the custom made + equipments upgrade is more exp than my RSM + some equipments upgrade.... i calculated liao... any thanks bro for all the advice.

  12. Googled that for you:

I found this article very useful when learning reef chemistry for the first time last weekend: Reef Aquarium Water Parameters

Short and quick answer: if you don't know, then just assume it's the same cos they are co-related. There's a Salifert test kit for ALK that also gives the equivalent in dKH, because it is a good enough indicator. You should get a very clear picture from reading the above articles.

Is Salifert test kit good? I brought a Salifert PO4 test kit yesterday, i could hardly compare the test with the color chart ... i couldn't tell with my eyes..
