  1. basically why dun u try to elevate the skimmer. it helps. 1 ft tank? now how many ft? u sure its enough?
  2. the level shd be just below the neck of the cup for dry skim. slightly above the bottom of the neck for wet. Wet skimms faster but have to watch the cup. Mine overlflow once. Wet skim the "water" is greenish brown. Dry as mentioned try to skim as dry as it can which means the dirtiest of dirt foam will gather in the cup. U will get kopi O thick thick!
  3. den in this case it is ur tunning la. tune too high liao
  4. please do not ask wat is my lowest...as it does not make sense for me to indicate a price since i bought it brand new...just give wat u think its fair for u and sumthing u can live with.
  5. does the foam sticky type or watery type? basically wet or dry skimate. the water black or greenish brown? if the MP grow mouldy take it out la. i usually use MP shell.
  6. maybe teste on ANN..test kits. if u wan take maybe 300ml water to my house. i test for u
  7. As stated, selling of 2 spare 1264. Both brand new not even touch water. Reason for selling....just realise I have 3 spare ehiem and 2 spare other brand pump...Faintz....(used to keep many tanks and ponds, maybe thats why). I think shops sells $387 for 1264 So since i have so many (i dunno why I keep buying when i visit LFS, like when u visit LFS must buy sumthing if not like wasted trip and pump seems to be sensible choice). Please state your price...i am not looking to sell at the same price but also dun make me bleed too much. Dun offer $50 for a brand new 1264 please, I understand we wanna buy low...so do I buy but I choose not to reply such offers. Offer something u think u can manage and i will be happy to pass them to you instead of putting it in the store room. Since its also a hobby for my MUM, I will be very willing to trade for corals. She likes big, colorful ones, watever it means to her.... Please note its FCFS no reserve as I have many experience with pilots flying Mig 29s....I dun have F16 so cannot really counter them...so if u wan just offer, i agree u must fly down.
  8. the skimate is form type? Skimmer is suppose to remove crap from the water. normally when a fish disappeared or died in my tank or if there is glue or or other stuff the skimmer will go crazy.
  9. i believe its call ireef. i am using the same. U wan to test the water to check?
  10. spent a bit more buy a pH monitor...think weipro is $100. very good.
  11. u sure ur KH so low? wats ur pH? i will say 6pH? cun be rite? unless u soften the water....which is common practice in aro and sting rays. but we still use CC to buffer.
  12. i dun think there is any hard n fast rule. but remember...more porious more BB....
  13. just curious, is there a diff which goes in which first? normally i think my parents add salt to water. let the stand for 1 night at least. can see the water is cloudy.
  14. one of the way to control nitrate we all noe is to reduce bioload. We try to do tat for mayb a few weeks den we realise the fishes are now nibbling the corals! BT, damsels...are like going ard looking at the corals and seen them take nips here no there! clowns are still ok..but the rest r like looking for alternative food. NOW my peaceful big brother BT is attacking the watchman goby! take nips off the small fellow which he never does before the reduce in feeding starts
  15. BTW, the fish u see (black strip with long dorsel fin) is call butterfly..they are not reef safe if u wanna keep corals dun get the,m
  16. the cheapest i know is $1...wah where to get 50cents. U forgot to mention tat the stuff is normally purplish...dun get those deep red color. But we can still use dead rock and bring it alive...n i feel its safer as u sun and kill of watever crap growing in the rock
  17. dude...tis statement made me laugh so hard i almost fell of my chair! wahahaha...can it be more dead if i pin it to the glass wall or less dead if it floats ard?
  18. new skimmer have fizzy issues...trust me...so beta to take this time to run in the skimmer
  19. yes can frag, coz i fragged mine....
  20. based on this concept...if less fish in the tank means less BB? no rite....but by increasing the livestock means increase in bioload..means more BB to handle....yes it is correct. which means spike in nitrate....hence if you read, everyone is sugguesting slowly stocking ur tank instead of dump like 10 fishes in at one go. coz ur filteration may not be able to handle the search in bioload. It is the same theory.
  21. leave it inside for maybe 1 wkish 2 maybe. remove the MP...let the tank run together with skimmer and the full works of ur filteration. for 1 wk. do partial WC. den another week. den lower the percentage of WC..leave it for mayb 3 day or so. test the water. Nitrate shd go sumthing likemaybe 25 - 50/100 range den down to 25 if not 0 will be the best.
  22. ooh..tat clears abit. What happens at least from our end is we do salt mix in a pail. We dun really bother too much on how much salt to pour in. In a huge arse pail. those used for chemical. We will leave the salt mix over night min or maybe 2 days...the water is still chalky. when we pump the salt mix into the tank. it clears up some how. This can be used as a future refernce. pump the water in from the sump to the return pump. why: 1. u dun stir up crap from the sandbed 2. at least the fluctuation in water parameter is more buffered as new water goes in from sump. instead of larger volume poured direct into the display tank. Why the smell....hmm. either ur water is not cirulating enough (u have a small pump i read to mix the salt, which can be another cause to stire crap from the sand bed) Try not to stir too much sand once ur tank is establish. Most likely the BB has not broken down the ammonia fast enough...if you realise as well...for reference in future. Establish tanks will not have too much smell in the display tank even if there are fishes that died inside.
  23. The cycle goes like ammonia. Thats where we introduce quickstart BB or MP shell or sumthing. so as to have ammonia in the tank. This cultivates BB that breaks it down to NO2 den NO3. Normally bacteria bloom is where there is a spike in BB. This may also happen sometimes after water change. But if its just 3 days...maybe not bateria bloom. Old man cun read properlly that u just cycle for 3 days. The question now is did u test the salinity? cloudness can be casued also but the sand or the salt mix. I see u wash the sand, honestly from so many years of sand washing...it is almost impossible to wash the sand.... The question also if the the cloudness started from day 1? How did you pour the water in? How many times u rinse the sand? active carbon do not remove solid particulas from the water. It removes chemicals...so if its due to your sand den maybe serves no propose. But its still good practice to use active carbon to remove all chemicals irregardless
