  1. Any recommendation of bacteria to purchase? and if the market prawn is rotting like with a white slime covering the whole prawn , and the ammonia now from 0.25 to 0.5, can I take out the prawn or leave it as it is?

I'm using TLF bactiv8 NPX. There r many brands available in the market depends on your liking.

  2. If you buy LR from LFS, some of them might comes with hitchhiker such as bristle worm, algaes and misc creepers.

Therefore, some people prefer to use dead rocks instead. Overtime, the bacteria in your existing live rock will populate over the areas of the dead rock, turning it into a "live" one over time.

Ok, just thot if there's any easy way to flush out these unwanted hitchhikers since most LFS sells LR.

  3. I've placed my chaeto in a beta box, current lights on 24/7. Seems to be shrinking and breaking off bit by bit. Not much space in the beta box for it to tumble and toss. Wondered if its ok in box or just out in the refuge tank? Any advice, anyone?

  4. I believe you are talking about caulerpa sp which is the most common algae that you can find in LFS..

They will turn asexual in unacceptable conditions and it might crash your tank if large amount turn asexual and your tank will turn cloudy.. Asexual = Turning White..

If you really wanna keep them, keep them in a 24/7 refugium...

If you really want to use for nutrient export, go for chaeto but only large amount will work..

As for Cyanobacteria, there is several causes, low flow in the area, high amount of DOC and high phosphate... Pin point the problem will help you solve it easier...

Chaeto a bit hard to grow sometimes, mine seem to be shrinking in size and breaking off bit by bit, My flow seems quite strong, Lighting i'm using beamswork LED 200, dunno if that's good enough.

  5. Thanks bro. A really really strange thing happened this morning. After I woke up and went to check my tank - all the green algae turned back to green again!

This is really puzzling because I never know that algae will turn color at night and turn green again in the morning.

I swear! They were white last night 2am when I saw them

Yes, green marine plants do turned white when lights are off. But if it remained white for too long, it means it's not healthy and could be dying off slowly. Lack of food and lights are mostly the reasons.

  6. Yo bro. How ur lps doin. Try put in a shaded spot. Once e color return bk, u can place it out of shade bk. ive a red chaclice tat bleech from bright red to white. After placing it in a shaded spot for 4 mths, e color come bk... Will try to post e pic in my tank thread.

Thanks for the concern, bro. The plate after putting in shaded area, still the same. The red lobo also show no improvement but I never place it under shades. In the meantime, I only on my two par38s 2 hrs in the middle of the photoperiod & 1 hr after lights out. Hope to reduce the intensity of the lightings.
