  1. Hello, Does anyone had any experience with sea cucumbers polluting the whole system because it died???? Recently I just purchased one. It keeps sticking onto my live rocks rather than the sandbed!! I havent seen it on the sandbed for the past three days Which means its not feeding.. And its worrying that it may die anytime....
  2. i hope my coming pair of clowns can be as productive as yours!!
  3. Went to CF on Sunday morning to get the live rocks....I didnt know rocks can be that 'valueable'!!! Spend a bomb on it Really appreciate Jacky for taking time off on a Sunday morning to accompany us to choose the rocks:) He is already pro at it.. I learnt from Jacky that rocks with irregularities are the better ones because we can scape it from different angles.. I think scaping is considered one of the most important but yet tedious task. Important because it affects the entire aesthetic look of the tank, tedious because during the scaping process, the one who scapes has to bend down to adjust the rocks and worse of all, he gotta look at the side constantly and not from the top view (very blur) to see whether if its fine.. Bf and me took about 1hr to come up with the scape with 5 pieces of rocks... needless to say, bf was the one who had a backache after that We are pretty satisfied with the scape... may add another one pc of rock at the back of the RHS to create more dimensions.. Havent decided yet.. BF is pretty boliao You'll know what i mean when you see this... Disclaimer: The last picture above will not be the real layout of the corals in the tank. He's just trying to kill his time! I repeat, spending 1hr30mins to photoshop the pictures!
  4. Seems like bf is stealing the limelight of my thread now that he has exposed himself... Anyway, havent been updating my thread as we have been busy with the tank. Was supposed to come on the 25th but due to some slight hitches, it finally came last Wednesday... Immediately after the workers have completed the setup of the tank, we anxiously fill the tank with distilled water to test try for any leakage.... Bought 18 cartons of distilled water.... It was fun at first but opening 216 bottles is not a joke... Thankfully, there was no leakage... The very next day, we added DD H20 Saltmix into the tank, till SG reaches around 1.025. Water was cloudy... It was a worrying sight as bf said he has not experienced such cloudiness before even after we left it to settle for a day.. Fortunately the cloudiness starts clearing away after he turned on the setup (ie the filtration system) The next day again, we decided it was time to fill the sandbed... The first pack.... The second pack.... Water started to cloud again... We added the clarifier that comes along with the sand to speeden the clarification process (It is not instant clarification alright, gotta wait for another one more day!!!) Next post will be on the scaping of the live rocks from CF!!
  5. Thanks bro!! Hope it clears up sooner.. Anxiously waiting.. I read that the cloudiness is due to the Ca and Mg precipitate out, if that's the case, why is the process reversible??
  6. Does anyone experience cloudiness with DD H20 Saltmix? I filled my tank with water, before slowing adding the saltmix with overhead turned on, till it reaches the desired SG. Mine has been cloudy for almost a day, i left my powerhead on for a few hours before switching it off. My SG is around 1.025. Will the water clear up?? When will it be?
  7. Hi Bro, thanks for the explanation. He cannot differentiate the various types of clams at this point in time too. Found another good webby for it: http://www.reefcorner.com/clams.htm
  8. Hi bro, I'm still kinda confused after reading the article.. Hence was wondering if some senior reefers here can share some simplified explanation with pictures..
  9. Took an interest to clams after visiting numerous LFS and looking at the amazingly beautiful photos of clams in the forums. Had some difficulty identifying the different types of clams, Tridacna squamosa/maxima/crocea/derasa/gigas, hence i went around surfing for related information (cant find much though). I happened to chance upon this webby which i thought it's good to share: http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2002-07/jf/feature/index.php Can senior clam reefers share some of ways of identifying the different types of clams? (It would be good if pictures are illustrated tgt with the explanation). Many thanks!!
  10. Sighs... There'll be some delay in the tank, cant do the scaping and cycling this weekend.... bf is sad, nuggets is sad... sianz...
  11. Ya man! Tank gonna come soon, hope there will not be ny delay... Can't wait for the cycling period to end (though it hasn't even started yet)... And go Xmas shopping for fishes lol Lol I'm craving for nuggets now man!!!!
  12. Hi Jacky, u mentioned that tuxedo urchin can only be kept during the initial stages.. Why is that so??
  13. WAH, haha... i wanna try keeping those invertebrates not for own consumption leh.. i just thought it would be interesting to keep something which is consumable in my own reef tank... But of cos i will take into considerations what the senior reefers have said about the incompatibility and the danger of keeping some. of the invertebrates. i wont want to endanger my other tank inhabitants because of my own liking too leh.. bf is a staunch aquarist that doesnt tolerate nonsense!
  14. Anyone knows where to find oysters/mussels???
  15. No not those clams, ie Tridacna maxima, which we see at lfs.. i mean those pearl oysters and edible mussels... can they be kept in the tank??
  16. I cant imagine the small creatures to be strong enoough to move the corals!! AT... if only its more affordable We already kinda came up with a fish list, realised there is so many fishes that we want but limited by the tank size..
  17. All donations are most welcomed!! Does star fishes consume the coral polyps and snails? Read about it somewhere... Have any one of you tried keeping oysters, mussels (not the clams which we normally see in the shops)? Possible to keep it in the tank??
  18. my bf was also tellig me exactly the same as what u have just said about the abalone... but i thought it looks cool! Ppl in the forum influence each other, he wanna have the nassarius snails too... but not the cleaning shrimp though... Hi bro, are you sure the scarlet hermit doesnt disturb the corals???? If thats the case, i would love to have it!!
  19. Hi kiko, you mentioned ur clown fishes lay eggs once every fortnight?? Sounds very reproductive. Are all clown fishes like that or how do I actually choose clown fishes that can breed? It seems really very interesting to watch the eggs grow. How do I differentiate the eggs? A mass of jelly like substance floating on the water surface?
  20. Hi Bro, can share what kinda sandbed are u using? Looks very white... or is it the lighting?
  21. Hi bro, I love your white cabinet and your fishes! Check with you, what's your DIY led? How's the spread of your radion? You mentioned that you switched from ehiem 1260 tunze rpse? How many returns do u have?
  22. Because their coloration is amazing beautiful!!! YEAH AT is nice also.. can consider... i wanted hermit crab but bf said they will disturb the corals.. wah abalone?! They are the edible ones? Will they attack the corals? I have read that Nassarius snails, though they are excellant detritus eaters, but they could potentially become a pest because they reproduce too rapidly???
  23. Hi Cedric, I have long heard your name as well as your beautiful tanks! We are not in the engineering industry haha... but bf is very meticulous in planning.. Yeah, you are right .. Starting up a tank is not easy!! I am overwhelmed with information from the books which i borrowed, from the forum and common reefers!!! A lot more to learn from senior reefers like u!!! Hi Bro, Thank you! Looking forward to learning from you and the senior reefers in SRC! haha, no la, not related leh... you are creative! wah, you have a voracious appetite! nuggets and quarter pounder very filling leh...
  24. Was thinking of keeping some clearing crews like sea cucumber, alage blenny, tuxedo urchin, sand sifting star and boxing shrimp. Fishes like coral beauty, flame angelfish,Powderblue tang, clownfish, six line wrasse,Royal Gramma Basslet, yellow globy,Bartlett's Anthias, Splendid Leopard wrasse,Mandarin Dragonet.... list actually goes on but is constraint by the size of the tank... I wanted dottyback, yellowtail dameselfish and fairy wrasse but heard that they are either too agressive or they may potentially jump out of the tank. Is that true???
