  1. I also got back problem (and recent relapse). Recent MRi shows last two vertebrates showings signs of degeneration . So when changing water and servicing tank, I do the very tedious method of filling mineral water bottles using funnel and pouring the mineral water bottles' contents into the tank. Even with 6 (1.5l) bottles, need many trips. Better to use more time and effort for maintenance than have to suffer backache for at least the next 3 days! Suggestion is to go for a shallow tank (as FEUL has suggested) unless you intend to hire people for professional maintenance. We are unlikely to notice that we are bent over for too long or carried too heavy loads until the pain hits which would have been too late. 3 days' MC. Ultimately you are the best judge of your body. Do swim more and do some form of crunches (on doctor's advice) to build back muscles to support the spine. Take care!
  2. I think that other than the make and brand, the insoles are rather important also. I have seen a shop/booth in Plaza Singapura that customise insoles to fit the soles of of your feet so that the pressure on your feet are evenly distributed while you are standing. This should relieve soreness on your feet! You may want to check it out!
  3. Funny no one mentioned body armour Take care while you are there dude!
  4. Chinese can retake one meh? Sorry didn't study for long time. Only remember taking CL2 in sec 3. Good luck for your Os!

  6. Justic is served!!! And in not better style with RvN scoring a penalty and Rooney adding a second! Arsenal LOSES!!!!!
  7. I am keeping a 2ft tank but you people won't like to see it as I have many fishes in my tank! *Guilty* That's why don’t dare to post pic. Scared wait kena flamed. Heh heh Manage to keep my ALL fishes happy, disease-free and fat! No choice, poor boy cannot afford bigger tank or expensive equipment and would never borrow money from friends (for hobby) or make my girlfriend buy me anything. Quote from Jack Neo movie "Bo lui beh yao kin... mai kiam lang lui" (translates into "No money never mind, don’t owe people money") Unless my fishes can talk, I may never know if they are unhappy or not but at least I don't have any livestock (fishes or corals) dying on me, which is worse. Imagine buying livestock without thinking just for them to die in your tank or realise they not doing well then try to sell. Ack ack... In a way, I guess it's a trade-off and refer to a thread posted long ago by the mods wondering if fishes should best be left in their natural habitat in the ocean for even a common clownfish will roam an area bigger than any home kept tank. There surely will be plenty of room in the ocean but predators abound (remember the barracuda in the Nemo cartoon? ) Not to mention food. How do we know that the pellets, cyclopeeze, nori, etc that we feed are what the fishes want to eat? Are they eating out of fear for starvation? Do they like eating the same things day in day out? Worse still, some people purposely minimise their feeding in order to maintain water quality! Pattern pattern more than badminton. What is the use of living in a mansion when you go hungry all day ? And these people think they are right too . I also feel miserable living in a high rise concrete building with no garden and garage to call my own but can we sue government for not building bungalows for everyone? Should we also propose to the zoo to release all its animals instead of confining them in their tiny enclosures? (Newsflash: Zebras spotted @Cross Street ) I think is a case of reasonable trade-off loh. Everyone has their own methods but same objective is to keep LS healthy and owner happy. Just me two cents worth
  8. Couldn't agree more. Pebbles could nice for display tanks but if used as DSB will not be effective for culturing of denitrifying bacteria as well as providing a large area of "dead" space for trapping detritus
  9. No, he didn't turn his sandbed upside down but he DID stir it a few times over a week. From experience, DSB is better left alone. Long time ago when I was more ignorant, I had the same idea and stirred the DSB of my previous tank. The result is not as disasterous but not great either. To achieve the same purpose, best to improve water circulation and have sand-shifting crew than to stir the DSB.
  10. Yes, the motor can be replaced but the body cannot!!! So whatever you do, do NOT damage the plastic at all.
  11. Bro, Thought you went skimmer-less for around 4 months right? If your tank can survive so long without skimmer, then surely a few hours is nothing! Hah hah Since you worried, then don't feed cyclopeeze all the time loh. Even you also don't like to eat same thing all the time leh. Alternate with other food so that your skimmer down-time due to feeding cyclopeeze is lowered. That, plus the time you are sleeping and out of the house, should be at least 19 hours of skimming per day (24 - 5 hours' turn-around for your Rob-Skim). I think 19hours as compared to 0 hours is a fantastic improvement! Hah hah... just me two cents. P/S: How about the thing we PMed?
  12. My Royal Dottyback aka Bi-Colour Dottyback bullies everythibg from snails to new fishes ( but somehow leaves my Nemos alone). Luckily, my blue tang acts as the policeman of my tank. Whenever it sees the Royal up to mischief, it will rush against the Royal to attack it and drive it away. This does not happen if the Royal behaves. Simply amazing!
  13. Ocean Nutrition Formula One (seafood, aka carnivore) and Formula Two (vegetarian) are very popular. Formula One has blue cover and Formula Two has Green cover. Most LFS taht I've been to carries these products. The products also claim to have garlic as one of their ingredients so pre-soaking in garlic is not necessary. My tank inhabitants prefer Formula One over frozen shrimps, cyclofreeze or nori!
  14. Try the Sleeper Gold Head Goby. Very effective. My bi-colur blenny loves to dive kamikaze-style against the sand and end up turing the sandbed over and over. Works well for my 2ft tank.
  15. Usage of AZ-NO3 may cause your corals to recede and not bloom. Can actually do a search in here to find out more
  16. Reborn got stock. Just arrived. Was there today.
  17. QUOTE (typrobin @ Oct 13 2004, 04:05 AM) Glad that someone has cleared the air from a potential sale wrecking thought
  18. Hi All, Thanks for the overwhelming response! I have received numerous replies offering single tube lightings. As mentioned, I would prefer a double-tube set so that I can have one white and one blue. Again, anyone has or know where to buy the Dymax T5, please let me know! Thanks! Cheers
  19. Hi All, Would like to buy 2ft light set to replace my FL. Preferably 2ft Dymax T5. Anyone has anything similar for sale or know where to get the above, please contact me. Cheers!
  20. I cannot agree more with this post. I have tried many times in the past to NOT just blindly echo partial judgements, everything can be nitrate factory is not well maintained and/or well circulated. So long as there's nothing trapped anywhere in your system (includes your main tank) which is left to rot and produce mini ANN cycles (which doesn't kill your fish but will give you a cumulative NO3 problem), you will not get nitrate problem. Many LFS use bioballs for filtration and I am referring to the filtration of the NSW that they collected from the sea. If bio-balls are so useless, then everyone who buys NSW (for water changes) from the LFS are also buying NO3-laden water. It's unfair to say that bio-balls and coral chips are nitrate factories when the user does not practice regular maintenance just as it would be for anyone to call the SMRT trains killing machines simply because of the recent spate of accidents? -------------------------------------- Unofficial Anti-Echo Vigilante
  21. One way of getting over this is to use BioHome with common ceramic rings or coral chips and convert them gradually. ALso, BioHome is more potent/effective so you probably won't need as much and have more room for other stuff. IMHO, there's nothing wrong with having more denitrifying bacteria. Allows to over-stock your tank somewhat.
  22. I have seen people feed market prawn to the fishes by hanging the shrimp on a wire by piercing through the head (the hardest part). Not very nice to see but is a lazy man's method as you won't have to chop the meat into small small pieces. Also, if left to hang tere for too long, the prawn may spoil your water parameters.
  23. Hi, Just like to offer a possible solution to this "problem". It is possible to add sand into your tank WITHOUT a major sandstorm, particularly if you feel that your sandbed is not thick enough or other similar reasons. 1. Be sure to wash your sand thoroughly. 2. Get a length of PVC pipe that is slightly taller than the height of your tank. Wash pipe thoroughly. 3. Get a wide-mouthed funnel. 4. Point the submerged end of the PVC pipe at the area/part of the tank you want to top up with sand. 5. Insert funnel into other other end of PVC pipe. 6. Scoop and pour sand into funnel; wash the sand down the funnel and pipe with your water from your tank if need be. 7. By placing the submerged end of your PVC pipe nearer to the existing sandbed, it is possible to bring the possibility of a sandstorm to a bare minimum, especially so if you are using #1 or above sand. Hope this helps.
  24. Specifiying a benchmark wouldn't help much. Remembered I was trying to sell my MH. Even though I posted benchmark of $500, I still got offers like "Would you consider selling @ $100". Some people just try their luck loh. So it's part and parcel of selling 2nd hand products. Upz for your sale bro!
  25. Doesn't matter if you use "live" sand or not. In time to come, the dead sand or rocks that you use will be colonised by bacteria, it's just a matter of time. Alot of LR is good if you using Berlin method. Else, judging by surface area by volume, sintered glass chips, ceramic rings or even sand is more effective than LR. All you really want is alot of surface area for bacteria growth in an area with no light and/or oxygen for the bacteria to be anaebolic.
