  1. I'm working in Bangkok, but don't know where they have good marine fish shop other than Jatujak that I can go jalan jalan. Any idea?
  2. I found some salt that sold in Thailand is very cheap. Something like S$2.50 for 1.5kg. Is this cheap or what??? And it seems to work very well. Any comments?
  3. Hotsoup, Any more info on this iswaki pump? For me, I think any pump should be able to do it. Just DIY a pvc pipe with T-joints and valves and connect it to the pump output. Just have to make sure that the pump is powerful enough. Cheers, Patrick
  4. So that's an expensive investment then. Imagine you have a 6ft tank and use a 1.5hp chiller, the cost is around $2-3k and it only last for 2 years. So the yearly capital investment is around $1.5k. Is it worth it then? BTW, has anyone calculate how much it will cost to just run the aircon 24/7 compare to using a chiller? In this way, not only the inhabitant in the tank are happy but also the people. hehehe Cheers, Patrick
  5. Sorry but what is the purpose of this? Thanks, Patrick
  6. I just wonder for the people who choose to install their pump externally, is this because they are not using a chiller? If you are using a chiller it does not really matter whether the pump generate more heat or not except that the electric bill is higher. The advantage I can see of putting these pump in the water is that these pump are designed to be submerse in water. If you run them dry, the lifespan of the pump will be shorten, since there may not be enough water in the magnetic shaft to lubricate and reduce the friction between the magnetic and the plastic casing. Imagine what disaster it will do to your tank if the pump is broken during the day when no one is around. Your chilled water only circulate in your sump.........your coral melts..... Not to start a debate here but just want to get some opinion. Cheers, Patrick
  7. Alternatively, you can also use a commercially available product called the I~box. You can check it out under: http://www.drozarios.com/iaqua/ I don't know how much it cost though. Can someone tell us? Cheers, Patrick
  8. May i know how long a Resun or Atman Chiller will last based on normal usage? 1 year? 2 years?
  9. I have a good method. At night...off all the night and make the tank in complete darkness. The instinst of clownfish is to seek for protection when in danger, and so they will run and hide inside the anemonie. So the next morning, naturally you will see your clownfish inside the anemonie. It worked for me.
  10. I too had an electric shock. Later I used a test pen and found out that it is the China made powerhead that came with the tank. Now, I have replaced the powerhead with a temporary one, and the electric shock was gone. I intend to buy a good powerhead from reputable manufacturer like Eheim. I think life is too important to be stingy on a cheap pump and get ourselves electricuted. Cheers, Patrick
  11. Hello Everyone, Thanks so much for the advise. You guys just saved me a few hundred/a thousand dollars on chiller. I love you guys. Cheers, Patrick
  12. I got a creative Zen NX with 30GB of memory. Can store up to 8000 songs.... all my collections are going into the player...and I don't even have to carry any of my 500+ CDs when I travel.
  13. Vincent, Thanks for your reply. I have just bought a fan, but it seems quite noisy....I guess I have no choice but to live with it. Also, you are right about the evaporation. It is very quick. BTW, what do you use to top up? Just normal tap water? I was told the best is to top up with distilled water, since the water evaporated is also distilled. According to the fish shop, this way will reduce the growth of unsightly algae since less unwanted mineral from the tap water is introduced into the tank. Do you or anyone knows where to buy distilled water? Thanks, Patrick
  14. I'm starting a new 2 feet tank and intend to keep anemone and crown fish and perhaps some soft corals. Do I need a chiller? I notice that when I turn on the PL light, the water can get pretty warm. Thanks, Patrick
  15. I feed my anemonie once a day with Tetra anemonie tablet.
  16. How do you get copperband to feed? I thought they only eat brain coral and is a hell expensive to feed. Thanks, Patrick
