  1. boss, any pics of your clam right now? can see?
  2. Main tank and hospital Try to make hospital pleasant Doc thinks he only has few days left White stuff gone and actively feeding on whatever I throw in..
  3. thanks bro but i'm pretty sure they have ich or some other parasite as they rub themselves on the sand and have a whitish stuff over them... i think the green mandarin sure goner but the spotted should live... btw i trained them myself to eat frozen brine and mysis so trying my best to save them despite them being cheap... i want my main tank to be ich free so its fishless now....
  4. reefing hobby is basically dealing with one crisis after another.... bout a pbt from cf about a week ago and introduced marine ich into my tank! At first i thought he could fight the ich as he was feeding well but the pbt finally passed away this morning. Its death pushed me into action... caught the green and spotted mandarin who are both also showing symtoms and isolated them into my abandoned nano tank.. gonna start hyposalinity treatment soon...
  5. i also combined ikea fixture with par38 bulbs. I'm very sure this particular model's fexible arm cannot withstand the weight of a par38.
  6. yeap, its oolite sand but i find that a brown slime quickly covers areas of low flow... i'm looking out for a sand shifting goby.
  7. bulbs from rapidled about 110? each once converted from usd. fixtures from Ikea, 19.90 each. sorry, something went wrong.. cannot upload any more pics.
  8. some pics. Sorry, the tank is still very bare, i'm adding corals and fish at a rate of 1 per week... mangroves from Boss Thairun, thanks bro
  9. Yup, i do see them in my sump. There is a course filter between sump and return pump to trap broken cheato. Hopefully some pods do get pumped back to the main tank...
  10. Just some updates before i clean up the algea on my glass walls and post pics... I want to highly recommand Reefpods tisbe copepods. I wanted to build up my pods population before getting mandarin fishes and i happen to chance upon a new shipment of reefpods products brought in around mid dec. Before adding the tisbe pods, the existing pods were all the crawling types. But the tisbe are very active free swimming type... makes me so happy to see so much life in the water. After adding a young green mandarin and a young spotted mandarin, the pair absolutely decimated the pod population within a few days. Lucky i managed to get them to eat frozen daphnia by polluting my tank with loads of frozen daphnia, brine and mysis everyday. Hope they catch on to the mysis soon. They have been alive for 3 weeks now and i see them shit alot of thick black stuff so i think they will live....
  11. sorry to hear that your peppermint went rogue, hope the damage was minimal. anyway i nuked the affected rocks... sundried and boil them in water. Kinda sad to see the reddish rocks turn bone white/dirty olive. Dont think i can stock fish until next year. For the moment, letting the pod population build up as i planned my 1st fish to be a mandarin.
  12. I conclude that it is impossible to build caves/holes in fine sand but asked if the shrimp goby combo was still possible in this setting. I find nothing wrong with my question. anyway thanks for your reply.
  13. Well, it will be impossible for the pair to construct a love hole in such Sand. So suitable?
  14. So... whats your theme or concept for the rescape ?
  15. your presuasive argument drove me into action, i'm sunning the future zoas island now, hope the apitase has not spread to the other rocks...
  16. Its the blue+white+uv bulbs. Anyway I shipping them back at my own expense and rapid will be sending me new ones.
  17. After spending to buy live rock, cannot bear to kill it.. was thinking of peppermint shrimps... yeah, actually kinda in a dilemma. .
  18. Yup.. its dry oolite sand from madpetz. .
  19. kinda besieged by problems.... got my par38 lights from Rapid LED but have problems with the difference in colouration. Kudos to their customer service for offering to replace them without me asking. Now working out the logistics..... problems with crab hitchhackers(caught many but still keep on appearing) and aiptasia(oh shit dunno what to do) too.... right side more violet future lps corner future zoas island
  20. I just received 2 similar par38 mixed uv lamps from rapid led.. I would expect the visible colour they give out to be similar but one output is very clearly more purplish than the other. . Feel abit upset
  21. Im using life brand distilled water. As for temp, it depends on individual situation... for my case, fan cooled water temp is about 4C below ambient without any heat contributors.
  22. I have more or less set my mind on a powder blue tang as my "king of the tank". Although it doesnt have the coloration of the angels but it has a very proud and majestic presence.. i like.
  23. hey guys thanks for your input.. they help to keep me thinking. I'm giving every chance for evaporative cooling to succeed. From what i observe, it plays a big part in my system. Sometimes when i have to go out for the whole day, i will close all the windows and the whole living room becomes very stuffy, as there's no moving air around the tank and sump, the temp will climb to above 28C. But if i keep the windows open, the temp can go down below 26C on a rainy day. Remember my cabinet is bare back so the shallow sump is also very exposed. I have two more major heat sources to install... lighting and skimmer. If really cannot control the temp below 29C, i will get that chiller. But i quite optimistic cooling fans will do the job. Another 2 other optional heat sources i might add in are - lights for a planted refreguim ( can run a dark refriguim, just throw in some live rock and see what kinda life develops, lol) - bio pellet reactor ( saw a very compact bio rector at gemsurf booth in fish canival that absolutely fits my space contraint but not a must have) taking things slow for the moment....
  24. tunze 6015 non adjustable leh.. trying to find a balance between surface agitation and sand storm. Once the sand become more "sticky", i will direct it downwards...
