  1. happened to my coco worm too last week. twice. in 5 days. for a full 5 minutes each ! siphoned out everything as not running a PS. anyone knows wha happenes if there's no PS and we leave it to float around for the next few days/weeks ?
  2. hi limpc, i had my dsb for 5 weeks already, and still cannot see any results. read that min. 3 mths to 1 yr for it to be functional. mine is 7" sloping to 3" (no. 1). also interested in how to expedite the process...
  3. hi balefire, 2x1.5x1 ft (no sump yet) 36W PL all reef + 1 fairy wrasse + cleaner shrimp some nitrates, so performing water changes. placed order for OFB box already and hopefully when sump comes in, quality of water will improve
  4. carbon on. will monitor and update you guys if the color comes back.
  5. hi people, the right-most branch of my hammer is turning whitish. can anyone advise how this happens and is there anything i can do ? so far the extension is still quite ok. noticed that it started becoming like that after i added a leather coral. could it be the toxins ?
  6. hi ARI, seagel by seachem ? haven't seen that around, will keep a lookout the next time i go down to the LFSs. thanks !
  7. has anyone tested freshly mixed coralife saltwater? what calcium levels do you read ?
  8. sorry, i very kia-su, using actually: purigen + nitrate controller + Carbon + poly filter all together, reason: only 22 gal tank, and DSB not functional yet, so resort to all these chemical filtration stuff to keep nitrates in control, my last tank had a major red slime algae bloom problem. but this tank, so far so good, but then still cannot overload with life stock, cos nothing will help 10 fishes in a 2 ft tank !!! dodo, algae prob may be due to phosphates too, you may need other stuff like phosguard to the rescue. it costs abt $26 for a small bottle. let me know if anyone wants to try, I dun mind sharing out the cost proportionately depending on how much you need, as I still have 85% of the bottle left. (pm me). may give you a feel of how useful you find it before buying a whole bottle... but i wouldn't bleach them to recycle as directed on the label..dun feel safe, just replace with new ones.
  9. I've been using it for 3 months already (in combination with coralife nitrate controller) and nitrate is low. was told not to overdose it. put it in my cannister for water to pump thru, and apprarently that's the most effective way to use. requires fine mesh media bag though.

top tank may be quite cluttered already, maybe place PS in bottom tank. but what abt the pump and the positioning/placement ? and special requirements ? I'll measure to check if i have space to place the small OFB..let you know soon. thanks !

hi Ian, its actually a 22 gal on top and a 15 gal below. top is already a nano reef and bottom is currently empty. but instead of bottom as a sump, thinking of also keeping some non-reef-safe fishes.. trying to only utilise one chiller and 1 skimmer, so want to hook them together..such that both tanks can share resources.. (hence double decker) so a bit of headache from thinking how to make sure toptank overflows down to bottom tank and PH in bottom tank pump up again to top tank...??? and also need to think how not to create a mini niagara falls in HDB flat... you think your design works for me ? thanks in advance bro !
  12. read from RC that some users find no significant improvement after using Bio-plankton..? and is there a shelf life for the product ? may end up more expensive if it expires before you cna finish it.. I'm currently crushing my dried pellet marine food and soaking into water for feeding my gorgonian, and it's doing well so far..but keen to supplement with some "green" food to balance their diet too .. so thinking of trying the belgium frozen stuff..

also, is there a special use for the durso standpipe? why not just a vertical pipe to raise the water level and the excess flow down..abit blur... thanks

hi Ian, I am trying to design "double-decker" tanks, not sure how feasible.. understand that if pump fails the overflow box will prevent water from being siphoned all the way down. but if the OFB fails, wouldn't the pump keep pushing water up until the top tank over flows. I was thinking of positioning the powerhead nearer to the top of the surface such that once water falls below a certain level, PH can only draw air...?? any comments ?
  15. wanted some advice on what exact stuff are removed by protein skimming other than disolved wastes... how about: 1) excess food 2) algae , phytoplankton, 3) bacteria plankton 4) additives eg iodine, strontium anything else? thanks and happy new year !
