  1. Admiraltian, I love how your wall of sps and corals are growing. Its amazing. When did you switch to AI Hydra 52? How do you rate it compared to your previous lights? I didn't know you hooked up your aquarium to a calcium reactor too! Do you see any huge difference to your coral growth for these 1.5 months? I'm still considering whether to go ahead with this in the new year.
  2. Yes, I have a love hate relationship with this fish. The sixline wrasse is such a beauty and I added it for this reason alone. The downside is it whacks all the pods in the aquarium too. But it's really a big big bully! Every other wrasse, goby and small fishes I added after that got chased around and exterminated by it. Some died jumping out of the aquarium to evade it's pursuits. Now it's big and fat and still pretty but I have to wait till it dies a natural death before I can add other smaller fishes that I fancy.
  3. Sis, Sorry for your fish losses. If so many fishes died within a week, something is very wrong and it's better to try to find the source of the problem. If your fishes had marine ich, then it's advisable to leave the aquarium fallow for some time. How often do you do your water changes? Do you stir the sand too? Do you dose any bacteria? What filtration are you using and what media are you using for the filtration? Did you add too many fishes at one go? High temperatures will cause bleaching. It happened to some of my corals previously too. There is a mini chiller in the market and some of our lfs e.g. East Ocean Aquatic, does carry it. For me, I'm still running on mini fans to cool the water temperature although it means I have to top up the water frequently. All the best!
  4. Bro, Where's the collection area? I'm interested in all the items if the collection point is convenient for me. Thanks.
  5. Powder Tang, It's a nicely setup aquarium, I must say. May I ask which are your recent buys from Taiwan and where (area and street name) you got them from? Thanks.
  6. Bro, This wooden table is definitely not going to hold the weight of a full tank. I hope you have something more sturdy. I used to run 2 HOBs too for my 1.5 feet aquarium. The flow is not too strong. The drawback irs water circulation is mainly confined to the top and you need a wavemaker to circulate the water lower down.
  7. Bro, Ok, is yours an IOS aquarium? I see there's mechanical and chemical filtration with the filter wool and carbon. What about biological filtration? What media are you using? What's your filtration rate and pump size? I suspect your flow is too low. Are there any wavemakers to help improve water circulation because I don't think I see any? Your nitrates are a bit high, how often do you do your water change? Anyway, think carefully about what fishes you want because I feel some of your choices are unsuitable eg. lion fish, mandarin. Thanks.
  8. Bro, What is your aquarium sitting on? Better get something sturdy to place it on. A 45 cm can also be pretty heavy with media, rocks, water and equipment. As for filters, I wouldn't recommend any internal filters. I'm using the Atman hob filters and the space is big enough for me to put lots of stuff, including a pack of phosphate removing media to reduce algae growth.

  10. I agree this is very, very important and I just learnt this important tip recently. If given another chance, I would scape my rocks differently because now my base rocks are mostly big, fat and round with dead zones and yes, I think it's too late for me to take them apart.
  11. Bro Kelvin, Your dragonet fish will not make it unless you have enough pods to feed it regularly. I suggest you read up more on the various topics on this forum when you are in doubt. There are also a lot of helpful reefers here who can offer you some guidance and advice.
  12. I know right! That's why it's so amazing! Puts me to shame. Lol
  13. Bro, Shut up! It's day 70 and everything looks so fantastic, clean and mature like an aquarium that's at least 6 months old. What magic potion did you add to the aquarium? It is really well done and invokes admiration! I look forward to see it one month later. Please impart some knowledge and skills to mere mortals like us.
  14. It's Mount Olympus where Zeus lives. I mean Zoas.
  15. Bro evolutionz, I happened to come across this thread and find it interesting to read such posts i.e. from a non-sps fanatic to a whole aquarium full of sps, you have really come a long way in the span of a year. It's really wow and impressive. Now you are more than qualified to provide guidance to others on sps.
  16. I think your aquarium looks amazing and I'm sure it would look even more fantastic over time!
  17. Such a beautiful and healthy pair of clowns.
  18. Upz for the weekend. 19. Usually Ah Beng (Pacific Reef) at Pasir Ris Farmway has s lot.
  20. Bro, I had a separate pico tank for my seahorses and pipefishes too but they all didn't make it. So now this pico is stocked with fishes although I'm still keen to try both seahorses and pipefishes again if I know the sustainable way of keeping them alive and happy.
  21. Bro Lincoln, I agree with this bro and share the same concerns. The canisters are typically designed for a specific flow of water through the media to still achieve oxygenated water at the outlet end. For denitrification to take place, the flow has to be super slow to create an anaerobic condition for the colonization of nitrosomas bacteria to convert nitrates to nitrogen gas. I have my reservations that the reduction of flow through adjusting the lever would actually be able to achieve such super low flow. And I think the performance of the canister may also be compromised somewhat? Anyway, I have tried a DSB of 4 inches of sand in my previous 1.5 feet aquarium. Whilst I often see lots of bubbles coming from the sand bed, presumably nitrogen gas from the conversion of nitrates, I don't find it effective enough to remove the high nitrates generated from my many fishes. In addition, there's always the concern of dead zones within the sand bed with the production of toxic hydrogen sulphide. Eventually I did away with this and relied on a combination of measures to control the nitrate and phosphates e.g. growing Chaetomorpha and Caulerpa in my sump for nutrient export. It's just my one cent worth of comments.
  22. Which species takes to frozen Mysis easily? Thanks.
