  1. Correct. Return pump -> Chiller -> Display tank. I'm using Hailea 300a (1/4HP).
  2. I'm using a Jebao DC6000 for my 3ft tank. Supplies to the chiller before it returns to the main display tank. Currently running ~ 70% power
  3. Looking good! What sand are you using? I hope the rocks/chlorine matter is OK. You'll probably know from the results of the nitrogen cycle. I suppose that if there is residual chlorine, the beneficial bacteria will not or perhaps take a longer time to colonize. But in case you are paranoid of having bleach in the system, its not too late to take the rocks out for a quick anti chlorine soak or to add anti chlorine into the tank now. Chlorine test kit is about $12. If you are in Bt Batok area, let me know, I loan you my kit if you want.
  4. I use TLF ReVive. Works for me. Seen 2 inch bristle worms crawl out of a recently purchased Gonoporia & loads of worms/starfish from a small piece of live rock I tried on.
  5. Bunster, could you also share your Maxpect Razor setting & timing? I've set mine to about 40-45% for ~ 6hrs per day & am keen to have a reference.
  6. Got some corals & cleaner shrimp from Iwarna today. My corals : Fiji Zoanthids Super Sun Coral Is this a Goniopora :
  7. Setup almost complete. First FTS Installed 2 float switches on the spare slots of the probe holder A word of advice for those using the acrylic glue/solvent seen in the picture. I bought a bottle from Art Friend. I think its very volatile - the moment I popped open the plastic cap, the solvent literally popped right out splashing all over the place due to the built up pressure.
  8. Thanks for sharing I thought that dosing bacteria is a one time activity during cycling...good to learn something new here. One dosing pump not enough.
  9. Could you share your dosing regime?
  10. This is what I understand : More CO2 in the water will make the water more acidic (lower pH) - mild carbonic acid. Many of us may know this from injecting CO2 in plated freshwater tanks Using an air stone drives out CO2 from the water -> less acidic -> higher pH In more acidic water, there is reaction of more toxic ammonia (NH3) to less toxic Ammonium (NH4+) & other components. In less acidic water, the less toxic ammonium (NH4=) re-coverts back to the more toxic ammonia (NH3) The extent of the toxicity probably depends on the amount of water in the transport bag.
  11. I've not seen any commercially available electrical shut off device yet. Conceptually, it is possible to link it to a float switch but a relay is needed. Not seen a comprehensive DIY yet though. Personally, I have a water alarm from amazon.com. Just do a search on water leak alarm. Some models do ship to SGP. This is a reasonably priced one from ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hi-Quality-Water-Leak-Sensor-Level-Alert-Alarm-Detector-Monitor-Home-Security-/161399410237?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2594278e3d
  12. I added a 2nd market prawn into the tank last Saturday to generate more ammonia in an attempt for the bacteria population to grow. Its been rotting away & covered with fungus. Tested water parameters on Monday earlier this week -> and again today Ammonia : 0ppm -> 0ppm Nitrite : 0.5 -> 0ppm Nitrate : 25 -> 10ppm Phosphate 0.25 -> 0ppm Seems like the bacteria kit (from Prodibio) is doing a good job with the ammonia & nitrite. And that the NPX bio pellet & Rowaphos is controlling the nitrates & phosphates. The Prodibio instructions say to perform a 100% water change. I assume that the purpose is to remove the built up nitrates but in this case, the nitrates seem under control. Not sure if a water change is still needed. Feedback? Other equipment changes to neaten things up : Went to an acrylic shop & asked if they had any scrap acrylic to sell cheap. Got this nicely cut 10mm sheet to place the reactors for a good price.
  13. Looking forward to this thread. Do share thoughts on choice points of the set up Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. AC is Activated Carbon - Removes toxins, medication, organic crap not removed by skimmer GFO is Granular Ferric Oxide - removes phosphates. Popular alternatives are Rowaphos & PhosBan. I think turtle meant that the filter wool should just be placed in the left most compartment where dirty water from the tank flows in. Your 2nd & 3rd compartment is where you place the bio media. Probably no need for filter wool there.
  15. I recall setting it to W (wave mode) then tuned the speed knob to the slowest - I think this changes the interval time between pulses which affects the amount of water it pushes. Hmm...but this seems to be what you have described & still too strong. I'm now using the Apex to control the wavemaker, hence it has somewhat slightly more control (eg. shorter pulse time + longer wait time before the propeller turns again => less flow)
  16. For a brand new tank without fishes, you can fill it up with water, get the overflow running then dump the salt into the filter sock to help with the mixing
  17. Sad to hear of any casualties I'm pretty sure the wave maker can be dialed in. I have the slightly bigger RW8 & able to dial the settings till I barely feel anything when I place my hand in front of it. Else maybe adding a sponge around the wave maker can slow the flow through it.
  18. Ha thanks. The electrical mess is outside the sump cabinet Yeah, I read that proper DSB needs to be 3"-6". I'll probably stick to the current depth for now to try things out. The refugium is quite small anyway for a DSB to be effective. And I have other forms of biological filtration anyway. In any case, from the Caribsea Mineral Mud instructions : For mud filters, empty jar into filter, then mix slightly, and add water (a "cap" of approximately 1/2 to 1 inch of live or dry aragonite sand is suggested). This substrate contains marine organics, and was created to mimic coastal marine mangrove environments. It is designed to reach anaerobic conditions within an inch of the substrate/water interface. Once established, avoid disturbing the bed.
  19. I still have a dosing pump to set up & perhaps a carbon reactor if necessary. I've ordered more float switches from eBay - for ATO. That should be it. Any other suggestions?
  20. Set up the refugium today. Used a 36cm Up Aqua Z freshwater lights. I wanted the light to sit just above the sump to optimize space as I plan to put something above the lights. Discarded the light's original plastic holders which would make the lights sit higher up. Inserted some wire to straddle the light over the 40cm wide sump. Some CaribSea Mineral mud & very fine sand as per Caribsea instructions. And installed reactors for Bio Pellet & Rowaphos. ** Thanks Thomas, for the chaeto This is my setup/notes. Feedback welcome. I placed the reactors higher up as I wanted to maximize the volume of the sump available for water. Egg crates could not hold the weight. Using an old chopping board for now. Connection wise : Outlet of the Bio Pellet FR (high flow needed to tumble) is split - One tube to the TLF/Rowaphos reactor (lower flow). The other tube carries the remaining output of the Bio Pellet reactor back to the sump near the skimmer. The Jebao 6000 pump is currently running at 70% power with plenty of flow to power the reactors & display tank return. The sump is cramp & messy now. Its gonna be hard to get to the filter sock now. Personally, I felt that the Jebao6000 pump seems a little 'noisy'. There is a light humming sound. I read of eheim return pumps being totally silent. I wonder how it compares between the 2. 1 more market prawn added to the display tank. Cycling continues.
  21. No i'm not using a virtual outlet (not familiar with it yet) ...need more reading up. Need to try it This is what i'm doing now : 1) The Skimz overflow has 2 drain pipes. 1 using a siphon, the other is straight exit downwards. 2) I also have an aqua lifter pulling air out of the overflow box in case the siphon is broken. Hopefully this will minimize siphon issues.
  22. I've set the Apex for this float switch as : Fallback ON OSC 005:00/005:00/005:00 Then ON If FeedA 005 Then OFF If Sw5 OPEN Then OFF If Sw5 CLOSED Then ON Hence if its open (either cable is disconnected or water level rises), the return pump will shut off. But thanks for the pointer....i'll need to think & experiment what you mentioned. See if i missed something out.
  23. These are regular electrical trunking found at neighborhood hardware shops. For mine, i got them at Clementi avenue 2 (near Marine Life)
  24. Contrats! Looking forward to the progress.
  25. Thanks for the tip. Bio Pellets are supposed to remove both Nitrate & Phosphate right? And Rowaphos is only removes phosphates.
