  1. Will be trying to feed him with seaweed soon. Let u know the results
  2. My yellow tang has been in mine for 3 plus weeks. Have been pecking on all my LR and sandbed since the first day. Till today still not eating my pellets but has since grew bigger and fatter. Guess the natural food makes him more hungry
  3. It's always nice to see new reefers starting up their tanks. Congrats on your new tank! Hmm.. Christmas should be in time for your first few fishes. To speed up your ammonia spike, do chop up the prawn into smaller pieces and deshell it so there's more surface area for decomposition. Keep your wavemaker on to keep water moving. Lights, chiller should be off as bacteria grow best in dim environments and warm water speeds up metabolism. But then make sure water does not exceed 31 degrees (should not in our current weather). Skimmer should be off too so that the ammonia in the water does not get skimmer off. You should get an ammonia spike in 1-2 days. Faster if the prawn is in high flow area. U will know when it spikes. Your tank will smell horrible but that's the process u need to go through. It will last for at least 1 week as all the ammonia get converted to Nitrite. Nitrite will spike and take around another week or 2 weeks to go away. Once Nitrite is consistently at zero, leave it running for a week and then change 50% water to reduce Nitrate levels (usually above 50 just after cycling. Try and get it to below 10). Once done, fish can start going in slowly. Dose bacteria and the process will be faster. But overdosing doesn't help.
  4. Wow! How come ur tank got so many media one
  5. This fella going to start growing big big fast fast. Mine got to 1.5times its original size within 2 weeks. Lol! Everything also eat.
  6. Yes have to. And so not add any more Zoas for at least a month. Make sure no more of such thing and it current Zoas opens up nicely. Else got it evacuate your Zoas and let the tank be without Zoas for a month or longer. Got to starve out the population.
  7. Auto top off ensures that the amount of evaporated water (usually just H2O without the salt) is replaced by fresh RoDi water. This helps to maintain the salinity in the tank. Most tanks can live through evaporation for a few days but if your travel is 5 days and more. It will start to get dangerous. Autofeeder is needed like what other Bros have said. Chilled with temperature control would be good too. Usually when we are out of the house, heat starts to build up. With heat building up over 5 days, the tank's temperature will really shoot up to dangerous levels. That's why a chiller is good to help maintain the temperature. But it will also be good if a small window (toilet window) can be left open for circulation of air. If your skimmer cup is small, see if u can create a secondary collection cup to prevent overflow.
  8. Angel keeper, I like this method of introducing new "fierce" fishes into the tank
  9. But a tang added to an established tank with resident tangs will most likely get attacked until it found its own hiding place.
  10. Depends on how u want to use it. Cheato work the way green plants work. They photosynthesis with sunlight and in the process use up nutrients. Some people turn on the lights in alternate to your main tank lights. The idea is so that your cheato would not compete with your corals for nutrients during the day time. And at night it can use up all excess nutrients in the tank caused by decomposed matter or fish waste. This will ensure that the tank water in the morning is low in nutrients, ready for a brand new day. In other systems, people run both lights together. Especially in high nutrient system where algae is blooming.
  11. Hmm... Did u happen to do a check of your tank parameters before and after u added cheato? Usually cheato only helps to remove nitrates which is good. The only thing I can think of is that there may be something in the ball of cheato that caused the death.
  12. I like that idea Can use an external overflow to overflow into a sump that's not as high as the DT.
  13. Oh no ... I might have IDed wrongly. They did look like peppermint under those lights
  14. Eh ... Instructions for this didn't say must premix lei. I usually dose into high flow area so that it gets mixed quickly into the tank Preferably just before where the bio filters are at. Skimmers should also be off for 4hrs from the time of dosage
  15. Aquamarin's recent shipment has a tank full of peppermint shrimps. Should still have some left. Call n ask
  16. Very nice DIY. Wanted to try something like this too. But the pipes not strong enough to hold the weight of my AI.
  17. I'm using a closed loop rodi system as in the picture. Pump will pump water from container into the filters and the output will go back into the same container. The good thing about such a system is that the rodi media can be used to its maximum capabilities. 0ppm is no longer dependent on how fresh the filter media is but dependent on how long u run the pump. When brand new, 50L of water took less than 1hr to reach 0ppm. These days it reach 0ppm in 2 hours or slightly longer. Haha! I gave up keeping track of the time. Sometimes I just leave it running and go out, turning it off only when I'm back. There's no risk of overflowing anyways

  19. Haha mine is moving everywhere. Even got itself through the IOS overflow and into my reactor chamber. Gosh! Hmm... Got to make sure it is visually in tact and looks "hard" instead of "mushy". There's once I got a shock when I picked it up and it felt so soft (like fish body). But now it's hard again. My guess is the tank's temperature causing it to lose its hardness
  20. Posting on behalf of fellow reefer, HockMeng. 40kg of LiveRock for sale Price: $100 Do contact him at 91862416 to discuss. Open to trade for other items. Offer ends tonight at 9.30pm.
  21. Bro .. I know a life is more important than anything. It pains me to see my nemo pass away, what more a shark, stingray or eel? I reef by the policy of "If u are not confident that it will outlive your tank, dun buy it. Corals included." Sadly .. How many of us are like that? These people obviously doesn't see it that way.
  22. It's not going to be a cheap mistake to make. Going to cost a 4 digit sum and I doubt anyone would give it up for adoption. Anyways .. I dun think keeping sharks in singapore is legal.
  23. Welcome back to reefing! My suggestion for sump would be: -Pipe from overflow straight into 2 (using a T-joint) filter socks. -second compartment 1 oversized skimmer and enough space to introduce a reactor in future. Go look at the footprint of current reactors and cater for that space. -third compartment for Refugium or biofilters or have a forth compartment so u can have both. Preferable dun put these 2 items together. Had a lot of debris stuck on my biofilters due to the Refugium.
  24. Do u have a lot of rocks in your tank? If not, the Jebao and Tunze might both be too strong for your tank. If u feel that the current flow in the tank is not enough, what you can do is to increase the flow from your return pump and that will be sufficient.
