  1. sure, but after giving it some thought, I dont think you need any rock. I remember giving a friend some that has some roots attached. He transported it to his place miles away suspended in tank water. He got it to grow very nicely in his refugium now. So I guess with a rock, the algae will just clinch itself onto it for support. However, give me some time to let them grow! I just trimmed both species last nite, the red one is getting so long the tips are getting stuck in the powerheads' inlets.
  2. Goshh...wonder how did they manage to move the 12 ft monsta??!
  3. If you could give me a small piece of rock, I would break some off and pass it to you attached via a rubber band, it should grow onto the rock in no time. Thats what i did for a friend too, its growing very well in his refugium at present.
  4. You could try this stuff growing in my tank. It looks like grape caulerpa but it isnt, i believe each leaf grows to its max when it is disc-shaped, it starts off looking like grape-caulerpa....This stuff has been growing in my tank for more than half a year. The red algae at the back is also growing like mad. You don't need any sandbed for macroalgae to grow, just make sure it is attached to some LR. Cheers... 4258609.Rightside
  5. Try those with thick stems that are somewhat brown in colour - they are probably photosynthetic. The rest are well - not advisable...
  6. Hi pple, Anywhere thats good to go for an advanced course this year end, i know most places are closed for the monsoon, that's why im asking. Friends have asked me to go Manado, but it is darn ex and I dont think its worth my while going there with just an open water cert.
  7. Clownt, Just put a PL light over the emtpy compartment. Bad idea to use caulerpa as they tend to go asexual. Better to use other sorts of macroalgae. Any normal daylight 18W PL light should be sufficient.
  8. There are RO ###### DI units out there, but they are quite expensive. The expensive part is the RO unit. I got my DI from Patrick at Marinelife. First stick at about 70bucks, subsequent recharge(he just gives u a recharged stick) is 50. I asked around on the US forums (reefcentral, reefs,etc...), they said DI is more effective than RO. But of cos if you can afford it, get a dual system!
  9. WEdgee, the Philips tubes have 03 imprinted on the tube itself...CHECK!
  10. Hi WW, Let me just say, Welcome back to the time-consuming, bank-account emptying, wife/gf-neglecting, heartbreaking(at times) but ultimately self-gratifying hobby. AT, enough teasing. WE WANT PICS.
  11. wedgee, I was hit by those stuff (dinoflegellates) until i had to overhaul the tank...and then i started using a DI unit for water changes and top-offs...i havent noticed them since, but i'm crossing my fingers...
  12. shit happens derf, if there's any consolation at all - all my purple firefishes are gone now. After adding 3 of them to the existing one I had for months, the 4 of them perished together in less than a week. I only found 2 dead bodies. I hate to jump to conclusions but the weird thing is i noticed something strange - that the fishes i got from Marinelife kept dying, while those from other LFS are still fine....
  13. Can claim ah?how ahr??i havent claimed a single thing since subscribing...i only got the 3 basic - ch 10-12,17-20,21-24,50,51,52 and 54.....is it worth redeeming the guide for it? that time SCV screwed up the pgrm guide as well. It was supposed to show some marine documentary but turned out focusing on some stupid lions. I called SCV and they said "oh the prgm team is not around could i get someone to call u back next day"....oh well what to do?It was about 9+pm...only the techie was left answering the phone. Few days later called me up and said...oh, Discovery Channel has cancelled the program and dunno if they would reinstate it...sorry for the inconvenience..???? So much for the stupid program guide....So much for SCV...
  14. Bluecarpet, i wish i knew....i dun even have the prgm guidebook for that matter.
  15. Saw some purple tangs (small ones) at Patrick's couple of days back. Hurry now.
  16. Have you ever wondered how they would catch the fish without using cyanide? Net caught sounds like one heck of a tough job to do especially with fishes that dart in and out of liverocks. I heard Discovery Channel recently showed an episode that included something on catching yellow tangs Seatek episode 7 i think. But i missed it. Anyone else has any info on it?thanks
  17. Go get the demo for Matrox Parhelia at the Matrox website. WAY COOL. Not too sure how it works as a screensaver though. The screen captures are great for desktop wallpapers.
  18. Play football outdoors, watch football on telly, bet football (everywhere, haha), play football on ps2....gotta love football....
  19. Like bawater said, look for them at Keong Seong. They have Philips actinics, but only those with thicker diameter ones. Marinelife used to stock the slimmer variety but not anymore. Cheers. Anyone else knows where else to get these tubes, please share the info, thanks.

  21. Noticed a missing pff last nite....this morning found a carcass...wonder if it belonged to the missing one. Three of them were still eating fine last night. Pretty sure it is due to cyanide poisoning. Hope there's still 3 left.
  22. Phang, show us some pics of the new tank pls!
  23. hi pple, i have gotten 3 additional pffs. Initially, they got together and was what i expected. After the 2nd day, they appear in different parts of the tank and not hovering in a group as I would suspect. All are healthy and eating though...let's hope it stays this way.
  24. I recommend you go for Philips fl actinics...they are about 20 bucks for a 3' tube. They work the same as Coralife, only more than 50% cheaper. I dont know whats the deal with Coralife FL, they are very expensive. I think you pay a lot for the nice packaging...
