  1. salifert for ammonia and tropic marin for Nitrite. Both of them still within expiry date
  2. I also thot that something died from within the LR but no dead creature is to be found. My water did not foul and is not smelly at all. I am really puzzled and maybe some seniors can do some on-site investigation to solve it once and for all. again I do not want to put in LS when the water parameters are no good. Thanks to all who contibuted thus far
  3. oops I forget about the cycling part. I just left the rocks to cycle without adding a dead prawn.
  4. Tks for the reply. My tank is 3ft by 18" by 20" about 247 litres including sump. Have about 20kg of cured LR from fellow reefers. I have sander wt 350 skimmer in the sump which is not collecting any skimate no matter how I adjust the skimmer. Tank age about 6 to 7 weeks. First inhabitant was a wrasse introduced 2 weeks ago and still doing fine. The other a elbi angel when up the lorry just after one night in the tank. My pledge is not to add further LS until the NH4 and NO2 is 0. I don't know how long i have to wait but I will wait whatever it takes for the parameters to go to 0. Frustrated,
  5. my tank still reads 0.25 NH4(ammonia) and 0.05 NO2(Nitrite) after almost 6 weeks! I am using cured LR from fellow reefers. My six line wrasse is doing fine but an elbi angel died in my tank after only one night in my tank.
  6. Shud the test sample be clear to indicate <0.25 or should it be milky with no trace of yellowness. My sample turned out milky with no tinge of yellow, does it means <0.25 or should it be clear. thanks
  7. Hi Bros, I feel very guilty today, the elbi angel i bot yesterday went up the lorry this morning Although I do not have concrete evidence, I think the cause was ammonia in the tank and it leads me to the next question. My salifert NH4 test kit indicates milky white with no tinge of yellowness, I took for granted the ammonia is <0.25 and started adding the angel. To my horror when I sampled some tap water this morning, the test sample turned out clear which lead me to belive that <0.25 ammonia should be clear. The only difference betwenn the samples are salt and tap water which I don't think should make a difference as the kit is for salt and fresh water. My the other inhabitant a six line wrasse is still OK in the tank after one week. I have been cycling the tank with cured live rocks almost close to 5 weeks and is puzzled about the minute trace of ammonia in the water. Should I wait longer or something is really screwed up here. Pls help
  8. As a last resort, I tried all sorts of food including tubifex and dead blood worms. also tried live freshwater shrimps but the poor guy did not bother at all
  9. oops wrong forum. Mod kindly move to ID forum thanks
  10. As Above. Thanksjava script:emoticon('') smilie
  11. Picture of fish can be found here: http://species.fishindex.com/photo_1351cha...poma_angel.html
  12. Hi Bros, Any success with this fish in a FOWLR ? common name is black poma angel. If sucessfull kindly share feeding details and care. I have kept a few in the past and they all starve to death. Thanks
  13. Your article on DSB was most enlightening. How do I know if my DSB is really working besides measuring my N03 ?
  14. I noticed there are bubbles coming out from my DSB. Especially on the side that is exposed to sunlight ? Is denitrification taking place ?
  15. Hi I encountered the same problem when cycling with cured LR. The ammonia, nitrite remained 0 after 3 weeks. Last week, I just added a six line wrasse and he is doing fine and feeding. I belive the cured LR and LS already have enough bacteria to handle the ammonia from the rotting prawn. that is why the ammonia and N02 reads 0
  16. Seachem Phosguard seems to be the ceapest in the market. Is it a good product as compared to the more expensive German products like tropic marine and rowaphos ? Can brothers out there comment. I am on a budget and would like to get the cheapest PO4 removal media. i am using it for my fowlr, nothing fancy and no SPS. Thanks
  17. thanks for all the advice. I will wait as long as it takes for the ammonia to drop to 0
  18. Hi My water parameters after two weeks are. Ammonia 0.25 NO2 0.05 NO3 <1mg/L I am using cured LR from other reefers and did not use a prawn to cycle. I have 2 schools of thought. There is no LS in the tank and therefore no ammonia to feed the bacteria in the LR to produce NO3. The 2nd thot is the tank has not gone thru the ANN cycle and hence the absence of NO3. Can I try to stock the tank once the Ammonia goes to 0 hoping that the LR biological filter has enough bacteria to cope since I am using cured life rock or is it better to use a market prawn to cycle the tank to go through the ANN cycle anyway. Kindly enlighten, I do not want to stock the tank yet in case if there is a ammonia spike if the bacteria in the LR is unable to handle the waste from the LS. Thanks.
  19. The skimmer is a Sander WT 350. I am Pictures attached but I do not have any parameteres yet. Will measure ammonia, nitrite and nitrate tonight. Thnaks for the help.
  20. Hi reefers, Really need help. Bought some life rocks from fellow reefers here. The rocks has been in my tank for the past two weeks and I have not noticed any skimate in the skimmer. Read from other websites that I do not have to go through the cycling process since my life rocks are already cured in other reefers' tank. Do I still need to cycle the tank with market prawn or can I just add LS into the tank immediately. I have not tested for ammonia yet but intend to do so within the next few days. Thanks
