  1. Dear friends, I have been keeping a marine tank for more than 3 years. I started the reefing journey asking a start-up company to set up a nano tank before I discovered SGReef Community. I replaced it with the Fluval Edge 46 Liters after a year. It was too much work as the tank had a small opening and reaching down to arrange the corals was a pain. Then I got an Innovative Marine Nuvo 10G from FNM and the fun began. This is part hobby and part experiment as I used the tank to test nanoparticles to see if the nanoparticles kill bacteria (part of my work). Besides, the tank looked good in the SOHO. I know the canister is a potential nitrate factory but I cleaned it once a week. Not to mention that like any newbie, I overstocked a bit and made all the usual mistakes. The IM tank had to be replaced because the bubble corals grew too large thanks to the introduction on our experimental enzyme (no, I am not marketing it here - it is used as an industrial waste management bio-solution that consumes ammonia, nitrate, and strangely eats styrofoam as well as eliminate vectors (i.e. insects). I told the scientist why don't we try it on my lab tank and the corals grew and grew. The IM tank was badly scratched due to sand particles on my Tunze scrapper (check for sand!!!!) and some corals hitting the glass tank when i was doing my weekly play-with-the-coral/live rocks arrangement. So I had to "upgrade" the tank due to the following reasons: a) the bubble corals grew too big, b ) the IM tank was badly scratched and the most important reason, c) the Ikea Nordli bedset table which was repurposed as a fish tank looks unsteady after the saltwater getting into the wood panels. Then I read that the max load for that table is perhaps 10 kg. So 10 gallon of saltwater is 10*3.89 kg=38kg. Plus the tank and accessories, 10kg, plus the huge live rock, say 2kg, that is a total of 50kg!!! Finally after much research, I have the following parameters - 13G to 20G tank, a new Ikea metal stand or reinforced wood stand, stocking light, max 4 fishes, do something about the canister. Over the years, I have never achieved zero nitrate and zero phosphate so lets try it this time. I wanted the Innovative Marine 20G tank badly but it is darn too big and I thought of the Fluval 13.5G but it has a transparent AIO chamber. Finally I found the best compromise. An acrylic tank by Aqua Excel about 13G. The back chamber is bigger and you can easily use the Tunze 9001 with some space to spare, and you can dump your filter media- the Marine Pure balls, Poly filter, filter floss, bags of activated carbon etc in the AIO chambers. And I bit my tongue and bought the AI Prime HD as it is much lighter than my Jebao AK60 which was linked to a smart plug controlled by my Alexa and Google Home. Because I use a canister filter (Fluval 206) I was able to transfer all the fishes to the new tank. The mistake I made was to get rid of the old sand which was stinky with tons of detritus accumulated over 2 years. There was a minor ammonia spike and two creatures died (fish and a shrimp). Fault is entirely mine as I was overconfident; assuming that the canister would have enough bacteria to handle the ammonia build up in a brand new tank. I did a water change, introduced Zeolites, 3 packets of activated carbon, ATM Outbreak bacteria and the small ammonia spike was gone the next day. I added Sechem Phosguard later. Today is a happy day for me. Here are my test results - Ammonia 0, Nitrate 0, Phosphate 0. For many of you seniors in this community, this is no big deal for you but this is the first time I could get this result. I am starting to remove the filter floss, pre-filter foam from Fluval Canister and replacing it with activated carbon, zeolites i.e. I am transforming the canister into a BIG Multi-chamber Reactor. I am tempted to remove all the floss and foam at one goal but let's do it incrementally. So here are the Specs: Light - AI Prime HD, Tank: Aqua Excel Acrylic 40cm by 40cm by 38 cm, Stand: Ikea metal table: NYBODA, Filter: AIO and Fluval 206, Artica 1/15 chiller, Tank circulation pump: Tunze 1073.008, Wavemaker: Tunze 6040, RODI - self assembled Filter media and membrane: Fluval C3 activated carbon (4 packs), Seachem: Zeolites, Seachem: Phosguard, Chemipure, Polyfilter, Redsea Filter Socks Micron 100 and 225, Tesla Green Agri-zymes Fish, corals, critters: 2 ocellaris clowns, 1 benny, 1 blue damsel, 1 yellow watchman goby, 2 fire shrimps, 1 cleaner shrimp, 3 cleaner snails, bubble coral, plate coral, red mushroom coral What can I do next: 1. Using the old Innovative Marine Media Basket or Innovative Marine Desktop Reactor, convert it to an algae reactor. Buying a small 20 cm submersible LED strip light is HARD!!!! Will it heat up the water too much? 2. Replace Fluval pre-filter foam in canister with Marine Pure block. 3. Dose the tank with 1 ml of Enzyme per week. 4. Try SPS.. gasp! 5. Build a Raspberry Pi thermometer probe with warning to the cellphone. One more thing... thanks to all the good advice in SGreef and the LFS owners who recommended great solutions over the years
  2. Item sold to a very nice Bro. Please remove post Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
  3. Dear all, thanks for your enquiries. The items are already booked by a SGreef bro. Appreciated.
  4. Dear Friends, I have a 2-year old a) Jebao AK-60 (older version without WIFI, this is a clone version of Kessil A360) using the b ) original Kessil A-360 Mounting Arm (because it looks better, I still have the c) Jebao AK-60 gooseneck arm. The light is still working well and there are some salt creep which can be cleansed off. I will clean as much as i can before selling. I am using another light so I dont need this anymore. I bough the LED light around S$200, the Kessil mounting arm is S$120, plus an adaptor mount S$30. I am letting all three items go at S$88. Please PM me. Thanks!
  5. Dear friends, I have upgraded from IM 10 (which has served me well for nearly 3 years but it is badly scratched) to the New Aqua Excel (14 gallons). Acrylic tank is relatively lighter but I must be careful as acrylic is prone to scratch. Will show pictures later. The AIO now has sufficient space to place the Tunze 9001 and it looks beautiful. Now comes the cover challenge. In Innovative Marine, the net cover is provided. I know Red Sea has this DIY net cover and so does DD Fishguard. Is there a shop in Singapore that can build this netting for you. I tried google, no such luck. Any help will be appreciated! Hehe I got the AI Prime HD.. OMG it is far superior than my Jaebo clone lamp and I am playing with the parameters all day long.. hehe get a life :-)
  6. It really depends on size and how healthy is the plate coral. Plus “I like it” factor. Sgd40-60. You can check them out at pacific reef (ah Beng). If a reefer sells you and free of diseases, then it is worth it. Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
  7. Pink and green corals are plate corals. Easiest to take care apart from mushrooms. I have a small anemone at the bottom but can’t really see in photo. Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
  8. The Jebao AK60 lights is now controlled by Amazon Alexa and TP-link smart plug. Monitored by dLink webcam. Here is the smart home tech challenge. If I use Kessil lights (twice the price of AK60) and Spectra controller, which can control the intensity I am not sure if I can connect to Alexa voice control. So far I don’t know any nano tank controller that can be integrated with Alexa. Lol before you say why? Because the geek in me wants it! Some thoughts: 1. I don’t need an Apex controller. That is an overkill for a Nano tank. I tried the Seneye but you need to use a PC or notebook. The Seneye webserver is again an overkill. A simple thermometer probe to remind me I have turned on the pump and it should connect to the web and send me warnings via the phone. 2. An Alexa powered phone controllable tank light without spending a fortune. 3. A bi direction pump that works with the osmolator. Pump out to change water and with a simple click, it reverses direction and pumps fresh water in. I know there are DIY solutions but why can’t it be off the shelf? 4. A customized tank stand that can hide my chiller and canister filter. Happy reefing! Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app

  12. Tunze skimmer 9001 is in the mid chamber. It perfectly fits so well you would have thought it is made for Innovative Marine. The third chamber is for the IM bio reactor and the two hoses - for the chiller and external Fluval 206 canister. So they do not share the same chamber. There is no need to modify the partitions. 13. Hi Jimmy. Sorry to forget replying to you. I set max for blue and 30/40% for white Light. For photo I have to lower the blue. Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app
  14. Innovative Marine 10g Tank update 1. Took me more than 2 years to figure out how to squeeze in the Tunze skimmer, the IM biopellet reactor, the filter cartridge caddy and the outlet/inlet pipe to my external Fluval 206 canister and chiller into the small IOS. 2. The corals are not full bloomed yet after all the aquascaping. 3. Why canister? Because I love the canister pump. When I relied on a simple pump it jams once a while and the chiller water can’t go in and the tank overheats esp when I am not around. And using a canister ain’t that bad as o see it as an external “sump” for all the filter media. 4. Previously I had 4 hoses. The dreaded ribbed hoses supplied by Fluval canister and I connected it to the Arctica chiller. Bec the hose connection leaked, I submerged the connection point in the IOS itself. This means four hoses in the IOS!!! Today I found the right sized Eheim hose that could replace the Fluval ribbed hose with no leakage. So 4 becomes 2 hoses. Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app

  17. Usual price is SGD100 I am selling at SGD50. Bought it from FnM yesterday. Realized it is too big for my Nano tank. It is used for 15 min only so it is almost brand new. Item is washed and clean. Throwing in two 1-meter transparent hoses free. It can be used in sump or as a hanger-on. Black wire tighteners were used but you can easily replace them from Sim Lim Square or you have better tighteners. Thanks! 18. Sir there are endless solutions. Go to any fish shop and you see a myriad of bottles - nitrate, phosphate etc reduction. But the source is most important. Use RO/DI water. This will solve all your future problems and challenges. Then buy all the chemicals which you will be tempted to buy and experiment (and every reefer has his/her preference). And the other advice given by the 大哥 reefers is crucial. Water change. 20% -30% a week. Done. Sent from Singapore Reef Club mobile app

  21. I have a 10g Nano tank and it sits on an ikea bedside table (norlii table I think it is called). The size is perfect. I think it can perfectly accommodate the Innovative Marine 16g peninsula tank. (Opsss... evil thoughts of upgrading lol) But as you can see - it is a practical solution but not an elegant one. All the cables, tubes and chiller are exposed due to the presence of the chiller. In all the designer all in one tank sets, the Aquarium stand is a closed cupboard and they look awesome. But! You can’t put the chiller in it as you need free flow of air- both intake and outflow. In those classy Redsea or IM adverts in Europe or US, they don’t need a chiller! So how do the reefer bros hide the chiller? Customized stand won’t solve it bec you still need the exposed air intake for the chiller. I suppose you can add grill but I can’t imagine a nice tank stand with it. Anyone has an elegant solution? How do you build an integrated tank with chiller? Thanks in advance!!!
