  1. Hi, liziqi, if u r scare that the nitrite affects ur tank u can direct the flow to another pail and only direct back when the nitrite peak is gone. Meanwhile keep adding saltwater to top up, this can also lower ur nitrate assuming its high now. If ur tank is big enough should be ok .
  2. 1. wat's the drip rate before u tested and realised that there's a high level of nitrites Tink tat time my nitrite is high becos its still cycling, it affects my tank since mine is only a 2 ft tank...small volume..... flow rate at tat time is abt 2 drops in three second. 2. how long has it been since u began cycling ur coil denitrator? 1.5wks. 3. wat's the current drip rate? 1drop per second. I tink the fat and tall one should be the same except tat fat one takes up more floor space in the small flat I live in, but then again I not sure maybe Zarkon bro can ans tat. There is a thread on the coil denitrator in RC: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=470701 quite useful In general if ur tank is large, use a larger coil denitrator with a longer tube inside so tat u can increase the flow rate without the nitrite effect. Looking forward to change water once every two month
  3. Haha, I tot I am the only one to tink it is a beauty I use the dimension given in one of the website u gave...tink its 4 inch diameter and 2 ft length.
  4. Below is the coil denitrator, inlet tube to the main tank and outlet tube to the sump tank. But for gravity fed one, we need to initiate the flow using either a pump or mouth . Then clip theinlet tube and put it in the main tank. Hi, Zarkon, thanks for the mechanical filtration at inlet tube advice...will do something abt tat.
  5. Just to add tat my nitrate level was originally about 25ppm...so the coil denitrator is effective...at least in the short run .
  6. Just went to test the water from the coil denitrator and main tank again. From denitrator : nitrate 0ppm and nitrite 0ppm. From main tank : nitrate 4ppm and nitrite 0ppm. Tank cycled within 1.5 wk . Take note tat the flow from the coil denitrator is directed to a pail instead of my main tank due to the high nitrite and nitrate level last wk. Just went to redirect the flow from denitrator back to the main tank to lower the main tank's nitrator level. BTW, I didnt use any pump for the coil denitrator, it is gravity fed . Read from RC tat some of the ppl did tis so go try . for the advice given.
  7. Hi, Congratulation for ur Christmas baby May I noe where is the collection pt?
  8. I brought mine from Iwarna also...got assurance that the NSW gone through UV and filtration. Anyway they are using the same water source for their tanks so tink should be ok . Other LFS dont noe
  9. Anyone who had DIY this encounter nitrite prob? Mine is encounting . Though I noe that this is a natural process while cycling the coil denitrator but tink it is having a little effect on my coral. It rise to 0.3ppm from 0ppm in my main tank water. I tried testing the water from the outlet of the coil denitrator and got a shock ...it was very high. Now directing the outlet water into a pail while topping up saltwater. Also slow the drip a bit to 1 drop in 2 seconds.
  10. Want this two 17) Frozen Brine x 4 at $2 for all. free plastic tong if item 16 and 17 are bought together. 23) Orangey Yuma x 1 at $10. another rock of Yumas included. Can I have the plastic tong?
  11. Nice and neat tank! Dont worry about the live rocks...any live rocks will look nice in that tank!
  12. Can PM me the place of collection and contact?
  13. Hi, I am interested in the item 3, item 14 and the anemones...are they still available? I can collect it this late afternoon at about 4pm tp 5pm.
  14. Yeah, agree with Reefbum...I tried to save money and brought a tank without a predrilled hole for sump and used cannister for filtration. Now got to DIY siphone pipe in order to add a sump...not to mention very very troublesome . Also a sump make changing water very convienent .
  15. Collection in SengKang-compassvale. Forgot to put price , brought at $10, selling at $10.
  16. Hi, selling my 1.5 inch cleaner shrimp. Interested pls PM, thanks. Reason for selling, for unknown reason it keeps wanting to stay on my open brain to clean fish .
  17. Dont really understand wat is infauna, can explain to me?
  18. I am keeping a DSB too but still having constantly high nitrate...tink may be my coral chip and ceramic ring...now in the midst of removing them part by part. Anyway I just found out that the coil denitrator can be gravity fed so will be trying to DIY it...see can bring down my nitrate
  19. Yeah...just did a search but mostly mentioned that the bacteria at the surface will convert ammonium to nitrate then the corals or algea will consume the nitrate. Only one website mention that the live rock will help in the break down of nitrate to nitrogen but that is deep in the rock...think thats y AT's theory is bigger rock will help (isit? ). Am thinking of DIYing a denitrator but the thot of one more power head in my collection and the electric bill turn me off abit ...but think will go ahead with it now cos my nitrate constantly 15ppm ...sad case... BTW... for all the info...think will also get one large rock to put in my sump .
  20. Hi everyone, got a qn...is live rocks efficient in removing nitrate? Cos I am thinking of adding alot of live rocks in my sump to remove nitrates.
  21. Hi, was thinking of DIYing one, but need some advices. Isit possible to make a small hole in my sump return pipe and connect it to the input of the denitrator instead of using another pump for the input. Will the pressure be enough? Cos I dont want to add another pump to my collection in the sump .
