  1. I have seen some very nice SPS reef aquariums with red bugs. I am not so sure these tiny bugs are harmful . I have one reef with red bugs that is thriving with all types of SPS. My other SPS system is bug free but I see no difference in growth/health whatsoever. I am more concerned with Acro Eating Flatworms, which can harm your corals.

red bug can coz ur sps die too.

  2. Hey bro,

I believe the value of KH cannot be taken as a sole reading itself. It should be maintain in relation to the other 2 critical value like pH & Ca.

If KH is high>10 and a high pH>8.5, it is not possible to maintain a high calcium level as most of it will be precipitate out from the seawater.

Natural seawater have a KH of 6. IMO, a KH of between 8 - 9 should be good. I maintain mine at 8. All in all, i believe it is he delicate balance of the 3 component together rather than getting the values correct for each individual..

    Just my 2ct... u may disagree... :P

sorry! juz to double confirm. natural sea water' kh should b 7 rite?

  3. Well done damienkee, it is true. Whether it is SPS or LPS. You need stable correct parameters. And SPS are particularly very sensitive to such. Especially kH, Ca, and Mg. Needless to say, NO3 and PO4 must be undetectable.

The key point is get a good salt to can produce stable parameters batch after batch so that all you have to do is adjust it with some buffer. Some salts are high in Ca, Mg and low in kH or give different reading in kH when you bought your nect batch. In the market, you will never get salt to suit to your liking, of course that is just my opinion. ;)
