  1. Thanks Marineman for providing the weblink to a very informative article on anthias.
  2. Hi, there are now only 2 marine LFS left in Farmart, Kawai & Oasis. I've been there many times but did not notice any anthias. Will look out for it if I go there again. Thx.
  3. Thanks Dazza, I think Ah Beng place is at P. Ris, that is far from Choa Chu Kang, where I stand. Anyone knows of LFS in West area that brings in anthias frequently, particularly, dispar and lyretail. How big can dispar & lyretail anthias grow coz mine is only a 2 ft tank? Rgds.
  4. Thanks everyone for chipping in on food recommendation. If I had known earlier, I would not have bought the purple anthias. These were the first anthias that I encountered and I thought they were beautiful so I bought them not knowing they are difficult to feed. If anyone intends to sell or let go off yr dispar and lyretail anthias, please let me know. I just need a pair of each. Am I also right to say that lyretail anthias are semi-agressive coz I do not like agressive fish/bullies? Thanks again. Felix
  5. Yes, Shin, it does resemble this. Thanks. What is this call?
  6. Thanks Yellowtan, I thought Henry seafood mix is too big (size wise) for the anthias to chew off. Anyway, I will give it a try coz I have that seafood mix. Any other recommendations on types of food available for anthias? Anybody heard of "Sweetwater Plankton" which I heard is very good for anthias?
  7. Hi, I just bought 2 purple anthias last Fri. They are now free-swimming as in not hiding but had not eaten till this morning that I decided to feed them with frozen cyclopeeze. They just nimble a little. BTW, last night, I started to hatch BBS eggs so hopefully will be hatched this evening to feed them but I think this BBS, being so small won't keep their stomach full? Those with experience with anthias, please advise how to feed anthias. Please recommend type of commercially available "dried" food and other type of food which are suitable for anthias? so I can start purchasing from LFS. I can't seem to find food small enough for anthias. Do anthias like flakes? Thanks in advance for responding to my questions. Felix
  8. Prec, I'm interested in the yellow gonio. Please reserve for me. Meanwhile, please attach a pix of the yellow gonio so I can confirm purchasing from you. Also, same question, where is the collection place. Felix
  9. In response to ambystoma Not much fishes now in my tank (after getting rid of the damsels). Thought of buying open brain coral, that's why ask those feeding questions. Now, my main concern is get my 2 purple anthias to feed. Just bought them last Fri.
  10. Hi, Y'day, I bought 2 purple anthias, returned home, referred to guide book and realised both were females. Anyone know of any LFS selling purple anthias coz I'm looking for a MALE purple anthia. Thanks.
  11. Thanks Neokn. Current LS is Long nosed Hawkfish, 6-lined Wrasses, 2 purple anthias & 2 common clownfishes. Suspect the orchid dottyback was frightened by the 4-striped damsel which I have since removed. Anyway interested in purchasing my dottyback to bring it back to normal behaviour, please drop me a note. Price is negotiable.
  12. Hi Reef keeper friends, Recently, my orchid dottyback (fully grown at least 8 cm) has become very shy and has not eaten for a few days. It just stay a near a crevice beside a rock. Not sure what spooked it? Anybody had such experience with this dottyback? On the other hand, rather than letting it continue this behaviour any longer, I am willing to let go of this fish at $30 (negotiable) to anyone whom you think your tank is a better place for this fish. Mine is only a 2-ft tank. Rgds. Felix
  13. Hi William, Thanks for posting the photo of your sandbed and that's exactly how mine looks like with bubbles all within the sandbed and emerging when they are big enough BTW, my sandbed is about 3 - 4 cm thick.
  14. Thanks Guys. I also think it's oxygen as it tends to occur in the evening after almotst 8 hours of light exposure, which explains the accumulation of oxygen after prolonged photosynthesis. Rgds. Felix
  15. The bubbles seem to be originating from both inside and near the surface of the sandbed, as can be seen from the front panel of the glass. I started this tank since late Dec, so the sandbed has been in my tank, say for up to 3 months. There is some localised brown algae on the surface of the sandbed but it has been reduced by 2 big voracious snails which I've placed in the tank few weeks ago. So could it be both oxygen (from photosynthesis by algae) & nitrogen (by denitrification)?
