Do you think that toip layer filter foam...then ceramic rings and bio balls would be a good option?

So would bio balls be the best option? So say that there is an ammonia and nitrate problem if they get dirty. What if i keep them under the sponge and filter wool layer so not to allow any dirt to accumulate on them? Vidul

Hi all, I have a 4ft X 2ft X 1.5ft marine fish only tank. I plan to use a top trickle filter for filtration. I already have a eheim 2213 running and 2 inches of crushed coral sand. Need to know when would be the best filter media for the top trickle filter. Are Bio Balls a good option? one source suggested only to use filter foam. Kindly advise. Cheers! Vidul
