  1. hmmm..if your picture is in jpg format, i dun see why you can't attach it....weird PM me the link to your pictures
  2. saw you trying to link to your image in another forum.... but they do not allow remote linking... so what you can do is to save your photos from that forum into your computer...and then you upload your photos from your computer back up into SRC
  3. wow...one word: DEDICATION that's the common trait of successful sps reefers in here also....
  4. got many knowledgeable and helpful reefers like you who can help also lah... I am just here to maintain law & order anyway let's not dilute the thread further, any reefers who wish to offer their advice for this reefer's problems, please do so
  5. The next awaited upgrade will be a canon dslr with 2.5inch LCD instead of the measly 1.8inch currently...very hard to see if the shot is sharp or not.... even some consumer cams have 2.5inch LCDs, they purposely delay 2.5inch on entry-level to mid-range DSLRs so that we will keep on upgrading
  6. Hi,I m new here and require some assistance. I have setup a 3 ft tank with the help from a marine shop at Farmart in Dec04.Everything seems to go well until about 6 weeks later. All died within days. I was using a 3 ft tank, weipro SA2011 protein skimmer with air pump, cannister filter from Jebo868,undergravel sandbed filtration, light.I have 3 rocks in there.I put in 1 yellow tailed damsel fish after a week of 'conditioning' the water. Then I added in a small powder blue,a hawaiian tang,a maroon clown,an emporer after another week.Everything was going well for about 6 weeks and when I added in a small blue tang.Problem comes. It was first started to what the fish shop owner say its white spots so he wants me to dip the blue tang and add copper into the water but maintain lower than 0.3.The next day,the blue tang leaped off the water and died on the floor.Followed by the yellow tailed damsel. Then the emporer, powder blue and yellow tang died...I have done exactly what the book-the saltwater aquarium handbook by George Blasiola wrote. Observe the water parameter almost daily too.Salinity was 1.020.PH 8.2.KH 10.Nitrite was lower than the lowest measurement.I was using the testkit by Tetra. It was very heartpain that all work goes to waste, especially the death of the fish. After that, thinking we might have the wrong info regarding setting the tank.We approached another marine fish shop near lavender. The guy came over to help me set up the tank. He basically removed everything in the tank.He used only 1 inch of sand, changed my jebo 868 to Eheim 2215,he also attached something that he says would absorp oil on the surface of the water. After 3 days,he added in about 10 damsels but after a week, only 3 survived. Then he added in royal gamma, maroon clown, yellow goby, some more yellow tailed damsel. After a week, only the maroon clown, royal gamma and 2 yellow tailed damsel is left till now. I bought a powder blue,a butterfly and a blennie but all died within days....I really dont know where goes wrong. Can someone help me out in this as I really want to be success in having a marine tank.thanks for your time. *easier on the eyes to read your case in parts*
  7. Hmmm....tat's true also hor, i overlooked how fast coralline can take over a tank esp with our high cal/alk tanks I forgot it was only by scraping regularly, that coralline was prevented from coating the tank walls... can't simply scrape the coralline off the fake glued sandbed hor, that will remove the fake sand layer and end up seeing the ###### black acrylic baseboard or white starboard again..... sigh...seems that Sand is not destined to go with BB systems
  8. Seriously speaking if I am keeping sps, I would have probably gone bare bottom too So that I can maintain very high water flow at the tank bottom without kicking up a sandstorm....but i would probably have the base board of acrylic/starboard with a layer of sand glued on it...something like how watercircle glued the externals of their seahorse showtank with a layer of sand Meaning, while it still doesn't give the realism of a normal sandbed, at least I prefer it to a purple/red coralline floor or at least as I look between those encusting sps on the tank floor, I still see the 'whitish/biege sand' for those parts not encrusted yet Personal preference lah...hehe
  9. UV No.1, I tee off my return pump with a valve to control the flow... UV No.2/3 each has its own eheim 1250 pushing water through. Max flow of 1250 is around 1200l/hr, but due to long hose length i used, actual flow will be less than 1000l/hr..... beneficial bacteria mainly live in the sandbeds/rocks, so adding a 1KW UV will not harm the established bacteria population already there in the sandbed/liverocks I used ozone way way back, but i am not comfortable with it, that's why stopped using I am planning to use 4 x 36W turbotwister for my next tank, 2 loops each with an eheim 1250. Each 1250 will feed the first UV unit which will then feed the 2nd UV unit before returning water to the system
  10. That's why I will still be using sandbeds for my next tank, the benefits that I see currently on my present tank for my softies, LPS, fishes far outweigh the minuses of the DSB/sandbed system. Going BB and too drastically nutrient-poor would be depriving the softies, LPS and fishes of the good stuff generated by the DSB/sandbed system. So it boils down to what you keep and adapting theories/practical information to your reefkeeping routine Don't you find the sandbed refines or even completes the look of the reef? In our quest for technical perfection of achieving ultra-low nutrient levels, by removing the sandbed, we probably have removed a major aspect of a natural looking reef environment in our tank> After all, aren't most of us striving to make our reefs as natural-looking as possible? I know BB can be very effective....but is it beautiful? natural looking? Personally BB ain't beautiful in my eyes, but I know why some of the reefers have gone the BB way and I understand their reasons and respect their choice and judgement. But for me, I simply can't face up to the fact that I will wake up every day seeing a botak, ###### 'ocean floor'
  11. wanna kiasu further, u can run more UV units I am running 3pcs of 36W turbotwister 12x for 108W of UV ich-blasting action long overdue to change bulbs already but so far no major outbreak and the UV tubes are still functioning (although less effective since past 1 year already)

  15. just a question to ponder.... If we love mother nature, shouldn't we leave our fishes and corals in the loving care of mother nature instead of our tanks? Ask myself this question, I'm also abit stucked, dunno how to answer
  16. Option already there mah Cos it simply feels good to have a marine tank [ 4 ] [10.26%] btw, I added another option Cos I am sick of other hobbies/I can't get tired of this hobby
  17. Update since January when I started collecting dwarfies: Not all dwarfs are reefsafe, this is said time and again. Many show individual personalities when it comes to this aspect. Here's a summary of my dwarfies behaviour when it comes to corals-pecking. African Flameback - Non-pecker Cherub Angel - Non-pecker Rusty Angel - Non-pecker Golden Angel - A bit of a pecker but not too much harm done Goldflake Angel - Rare pecker Flame Angels - One is relatively ok, one is a rascal Elbi Angel - No. 1 rascal amongst the dwarfies...pecks at some of my corals Coral Beauty - MIA Above is my personal experience with them....so introduce Dwarfies at your own peril and judgement. I had to sell/rehouse some of my fleshier LPS as the 2 main rascals Elbi and one of the flames actively seek to peck at them, whereas the rest are rather happy pecking elsewhere in the rockworks... Happy Dwarfing
