  1. best not keep as crabs when they grow bigger will knock down your rockscape.
  2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=In7n590GjxU A very interesting article on cuttlefish and its awesome camouflage.
  3. You are lucky to have the starfish - they are safe.
  4. Can't wait when the whole sea is done up, will be the biggest fish tank in Singapore.
  5. I recommend that if you are into reefing and vivariums, frogs and other exotic creatures, this is actually worth a visit but the animals are not very very well taken care of, so as a person, I feel sorry that these animala have to suffer.
  6. I walk past about last year, they sell mostly freshwater prawns, not sure if they are marine fishes there as the shop is rather small.
  7. Hi, just visited Coral Wonderland at Malacca. http://coralwonderland.com.my/ the visit for Singaporean Adult RM40 while child is RM30, so price is quite high for a 40mins visit. The only nice part is the exhbit where you can walk in to feed the black tip reef shark as well as the hawkbill turtle (you have to pay for the feed). There are also a couple of videos in Youtube of the place. It is quite fun to as there is a touch the sea creatures area. The tanks of the fishes are quite healthy but I thnik they are having a "old tank" syndrome, where the fishes are dying one by one. They need to maintain it well as I start to see diatoms growing on their sandbed. They have a nice collection of about 5 tank with variety of corals but many are not fully open (I went in just about opening time in the morning - the first visitor) They have a little worksheet which you have to go to several stations to "chop" the answers, and upon completion to redeem a plastic key-tag. Overall is it worth the money? I rate it 2 shells out of 5.
  8. All items sold and collected. Thread Closed, Thanks for the interest.
  9. Items reserved by two brothers now (sheritopher and Nicholasyap). Will arrange for this evening if it is okay with both of you. Will SMS you again when I get home.
  10. I have the following to be cleared, Weipro 9000L in-sump pump. $30 condition used. Weipro 2014 skimmer - FOC Weipro 2012 skimmer - FOC in-sump needle-wheel skimmer suitable for 3ft tank - $10 All items are to be cleared by May. Thanks. email enquires to cdckjn@yahoo.com. Thanks
  11. The acrylic stand DO looks weak. I really think you need more reinforcement. Better do reinforcement now, then later when tank is up, then realise that problems with stand starts.
  12. I suggest that you better paint the steel stand with another coat of paint, as th way you go, the saltwater will cause the steel stand to rust at as very fast rate, leaving ugly rust stains on your floor.
  13. I have a Weipro 9000 if you are interested. $65.
  14. For such a small tank, some small pieces of live rock is 100% necessary to help you mature the tank quickly. You can only put in small livestock like hermit crab or zoos or mushrooms.
  15. Singapore beaches has shrimpsbut many of these shrimps are not reef-friendly so unless if you have only a FOWLR tank, you will not want local shrimps (mostly snapping shrimps).
  16. I used to have a similar set up as yours, where the top 2ft and bottom 2ft are connected. My setup lasted 4 years with minimum water change and I also have a Weipro setup as ours. I did not run the chillers and I have no high-tech filter system as you. But the difference is that my lower tank is used mainly as a sump tank with lots of live rock and a couple of fishes below. the main tank is the higher one. I guess all the brothers here have reminded you that your choice of fishes for a 2ft tank is rather limited. Tangs, triggers and lionfishes need lots of space to swim if not they have very high stress levels - that is why ich is present in your tanks. Lower the number of fishes to stop having to replace fishes once they die off due to ich. In this manner, perhaps you have have enjoy the fishes as they last longer instead of only every month. Happy Reefing.
  17. Hi, glad you update the thread. It is ok to see that the pico is still running. I finally closed my 2ft tank after 4 years due to the fact that the wrought iron frame is rusting and staining my ceramic flooring. I do miss the marine but now I am into fire belly toads.
  18. The liquid stuff (green tea or kopi-0) is ok as you have a low bio-load. You may want to tune your tuner a little to make the "green tea" thicker but with the bio-load that you have, it will be ok at the moment. I will hold on buying any more livestock until 2 - 3 months later and the corals will grow or you will have more ideas how you want to evlove your tank. I think the current setup it already satisfying and it will be a joy to maintain this for a while. See you at XMSS.
  19. I have a Weipro 2011 but has not pump for it. $5 as a token is appreciated.
  20. Don't touch it with bare hands as its bristles will poke into your fingers and gives out a itch that it quite itchy.
  21. I agree, once the anemone settles in a one, try not to change any position of any pumps, as they will move again. better leave it wheer it likes best.
  22. Yes I agree with you, If you want the sand at our local beaches is ok to use in our aquarium. provided we wash it at least 4-5 times to get rid of the oil and dirt. But using our local sand (a bit of thise clean but unwashed) will help to seed the tank quicker. It is your choice.
  23. Skimming is to allow the minute solid waste to combine with the tiny air bubbles to form a semi-solid foamy product which can be removed. If one has a low bio-load (a few fishes) then skimming is optional. If you are keeping corals, skimming is alos optional as perhaps these minute solid particles can serve as food for filter feeders like sponges, clams etc. So if we douse coral food, we normally off the skimmer to prevent the food from being skimmed off. if you really opt to go skimless, then have the macro-algae srubber, using the algae to consume the solid waste partcles but these will take a longer amount of time. Of course water change is also good but cost and containers to store water is an issue.
  24. actually it depends on you. I mean if you really go all the way to Palau Tioman, and the sand is nice and clean, why not take a scoop of the sand and use it to seed you other sand that you buy from the LFS. of course in Singapore to find clean sand, it is almost a joke and our beaches is really very dirty. So it is up to you. I have seen several people collecting stones/rocks from our local beaches, and I know the rocks from our beaches have a lot of nasty algae and stuff that you may not want in your reef tanks. But if your is a FOWLR, then it may be ok.
