  1. You could use your existing tank. Should not be a problem. But since you want to venture into the hobby, as well start off with a bigger tank (more flexibility for you in future for change, more room for mistakes too). For tank and cabinet, can try N30.
  2. Good to hear that. Just to highlight, do note for sign of scratching or heavy gill movement. Fishes that has velvet often has these sympton plus behaving lethargic..
  3. CongratuIation!!! It must be rewarding for you after so much dedication and effort put into the tank. Keep it up!
  4. Probably will not school since you are going to only have 5 pcs of anthias.
  5. Algae is usually an indication of nutrient level build up. Could be nitrate level been high due to waste. Are you using tap water or DI water for top-up and water change? Tap water itself contains phosphorus and silica which also encourage brown diatoms to proliferate. Few things to do could be change more water, reduce lighting period, check your skimmer rating, set-up an algae srcubber...etc. Hope it helps a little.
  6. Agree. Unwanted credit card or infact any card should do the job. Just scrap harder and the sign of stain should be gone. Quite a bone breaking chore though...if an extensive area is affected.
  7. Anyone has idea which lfs sell cheapest salt. I mean overall for the various brands.
  8. Very nice rockscape. Do feed the angels more if not, they are much more likely to go for the clams treat.
  9. Agree too. Take care of the water and the fishes will take care of themselves. Try soaking food in garlic guard, vitamin...etc. sometimes fish may overcome it. However, the ich is still in the system unless treatment is taken.
  10. Should not have problem. Introduce the new fishes with light switch off. Provide some hiding spot.
  11. In most cases, damsel are not the ultimate fish that many have in mind in a long run. For begineer to buy a damsel just to learn how to keep marine fish, is in a way, wrong. Generally for a tank crowd with inhabitants, its fine to have damsel(s).This is not so for a nano or pico system. So unless a person set up his tank just to have damsel in mind, keeping damsel as begineer fish is not the best option. But back to the topic, if we are saying which fish is more suited for begineer due to their hardiness...damsel could very likely be in the list.
  12. Bro, from your build, you don't intend to get a sump?
  13. Guess damselfish is considerably more forgiving for beginnner mistakes. Yet, on the contrary, I find them not suitable as they tend to be difficult to remove from a reef system. Often terrotorial in nature and hard to mix with other fish also mean it present other set of problems for beginner who most likely tend to add in more fishes into their system in near future.
  14. And I still wonder why i have to top up 3L/day.. Now i know, its just normal.
  15. Feng shui and reefing. Interesting. Wonder if there is more comprehensive write up on this?
  16. Anyone could advise, even with weekly washing..how long can the filter bag lasts? Anything to look out for? I washed mine but never been able to fully clean it..
  17. there is no such thing as reef save ic h medication, only proven treatment is copper or hypo best to catch the fish out and do treatment
  18. Guess bacteria is always present in certain amt in aquarium system. Fishes carry them. Good water parameter keeps the fish healthy to fight off. So WC, good filtratiom system, good skimmer/scrubber are part of the "necessary" husbandry for reef tank.
  19. Why not qt all fishes before they go ino main tank. Learnt the mistakes of not doing so... velvet wiped out.. Now always qt any new fish.
  20. Interesting. Will definetely try it out and show my wife.
  21. What I do is throw in a little pellets to seed the qt when there is no fish. Keeps the bacteria alive.
  22. Agree. You can do so if uou have a quranteen tank
