Many times hitchhikers like bristleworms feed on the fish after it is dead and that can be real helpful especially if you're like me where your rocks have some big caves where the dead fish cannot be seen. Over the years I've even lost big fish like tangs and my hundreds of bristleworms would take care of it for me. What I'm trying to say is that hitchhikers may not be the ones to blame. Sometimes fish just do not acclimatise properly or they may not be in the best of health which might not be apparent at first.

I just mix kalk with water till it is a thick white paste, draw with a syringe and cover the mouth of the aiptasia. Works just like Joe's juice/aiptasia X except much cheaper. But they can never be truly eradicated As there will be small ones hiding somewhere and growing in the tank. I've done this for years and killed hundreds.

Need to get 35ppt/sg 1.026 calibration fluid to confirm my refractometer offset. Which LFS usually carry those? I tuned with distilled water n 30ppt solution but inconsistent reading with my salt mix recommended mix level. I have already accounted for the offset between seawater n saltwater refractometer as well.

The article specifically states that the bracing takes care of the length, and must be there to prevent the tank from bowing out. So length do play a part if you have no bracing.

Bro relax man... It happens. This was how my tank looked like sometime in 2007... ...then my chiller had an electrical fault in 2008 or so I think... Everything died except my 2 false percs and blue-legged hermit crab. Wanted to give up but just left the tank running for my nemos. Tank was soon overrun with aiptasia and just couldn't look at it anymore. Took me a couple of years to overcome it, get recharged and now I am back. This event was the worst setback I had. I have lost fishes to everything before. Not eating, parasite outbreak, aggression etc... Such things happen in this hobby. Relax for a while, rest for a couple of weeks and you'll be ready to go again. I am still battling aiptasia today but at a much more comfortable pace. I had hundreds at one period. Still could not get any natural predators to totally eradicate them though.

Put prawn meat inside a glass jar n leave it next to the rock. Make sure the crab can reach the opening and it will be trapped within hours.
