  12. Hi friends, CUrrently my protein skimmer is giving out heat in my sump tank turning the water a bit warm. Is this a problem or is normal? I'm using a submerging pump. The pump is in the water. The pump giving out heat.... Advise?
  13. Hi all, I really admire of everyone engineer's mind to have a DIY sump tank. Can some one teach me how to bulid one? I am learning how to bulid the flow of water mechanisms. How to let the water from my main tank flow back to sump tank and how to let the water flow back to main tank? What to use? Pump? How to connect? My tank do not have a pipe connection underneath. I intend to use a overhang pipe method. Is it possible to connect to sump tank? Will it over flow? Thanks
  14. Hi all, I having a weird problem here. I have a damsel, Nemo and Domino. These few days these fishes are breathing heavily and very fast. But they seems active in eating and sleeping. Seldom comes to the surface for air. Testing my ammonia = 0 , Nitrite = 0 What is happening? Is my reef corals in the tank some what release unseen toxic Btw i have= a xiena, soft corals like finger, toadstool and sponges Pls Advise
  15. Thanks all shoelevy: thanks for your kind help. I'm staying in the north. It's ok for the moment cos i can take back to my lab and run it under 'HPLC-High Performance Liquid Chromotagraphy' it shows me a quantitative results. More accurate. I may need to measure Mg, Ca and Carbonate Salts. Nicholas: I bought the Seachem Reef Carbonate (liquid form) will try to add in alternate nights with my kalkwasser Is it ok? Advise
  16. dkk80, looking at your tank, is not advisable to keep anemone. think your condition can substain the life of anemone. or else when it die, it will kill the rest of your life forms better to have a fish only rocks in your tanks hope u get a successful beautiful tank
  17. hi all, thanks. I now using this 'aqua-pharm pur-kalkwasser'. I still adding alternate night. Very tired. How to check KH and how to increase my KH? My Calcium is very high now 550 ppm approximately Mg I adding once per week. Do I need to boost it? Is it my filter is removing all my goodies elements? Oh someone pls help me....
  18. Hi, It is advisable to put any corals in a quarantine tank to avoid any dying corals in your beautiful tank. Xiena known as pulsing corals have to be open. It means they are healthy. Below is my xiena i bought for 1 week after proper quarantine: Xiena have to put on the sand bed with strong current. They have sensitive detector on their membrane that flow with current that give them the 'pulsing effect' The 'smell' mentioned is probably the result of ammonia that produced from dead corals.. Hope u get a healthy xiena with proper care!
  19. Thanks, So u mean pH will flucuate day and nights? then when to measure pH that gives me a conclusive results? I'm using 'aquapharm restore to pH 8.3' buffer. Any other good buffer around? When will be my pH be stable....?
  20. hi sorry to interfere, when anemone dies, it will screte its body mucus as act of protection. some thing like 'if i die, all must die with me' atitiude. indeed anemone is diff to keep. i have one before which cost me 80 bucks to have a hawaii purple anemone. death is unknown after i feed with brine shrimp. now i never touch them anymore as i shift to soft corals which are easy to maintain. anemone will only secrete toxins when its being attack. however when it dies it better to clear the water asap or else the mucus will clog and block your filters and skimmer. thus causing your motors to 'explode'! furthur more anemone are moving creatures, if they have some atitude problem, it will keep moving from your rocks to caves and hide. thus the beauty is hidden from tank. sign i hate anemone
  21. HI all, anyone can give any advices. MY tank is a 4 months old. I notice my pH keep dropping from 8.35 to 7.93 everyday. I need to top up calcium powder to raise up every 2 days. BUt still dropping. I added magnesium and buffer to stable... but fruitless. I added pH balancer media in my filter, still can't see results? Is it my nitrification process is going very high? or my reef is producing lots of CO2 that cause my water to become acidic? What should I do? Pls advise
