  1. Hi, from what i have tried.

the denitration process shouldn't take that long if you leave the thing alone for sometime as i manage to get mine working in a week. too long and you may get a foul smell. that smell is bad as it's harmful to your livestock.

depending on how big your denitrator is, you will need how much of the air tubing.

as for using hose, you can do that if you doing a 3ft to 4ft tall DN. cos it will be too big for a small system.

you will want to squeeze more tubing instead of using bigger ones becos what you need here is anaerobic bacteria.

The longer it is, the more you get becos the long the journey, the faster the oxygen wlll be depleted.

then at the end you can put alot of ceramic noodles or other medium becos it will be the paradise for your anaerobic bacteria. :D

If you wanna use hose, you will need a big system so it depends on your needs.

as for length, i tried doing a small one and already utilize 10m so anything bigger you will need to measure it up.

but will recommend hose if you doing a big system.

    Cheers. good luck bro. ;)

  2. Taken this from artica website, hope it helps.:

FACTORS THAT CAN AFFECT CHILLER PERFORMANCE:

Please keep in mind the factors below for optimum chiller performance:

    - Ambient temperatures exceeding 95 degrees Fahrenheit

    - Excessive heat load from equipment

    - Placing chiller in a well-ventilated area

    - Keeping Condenser Grill clean

    - Providing minium flow requirements

    Cheers.

  3. HI, have tried to do one before and know others who did.

Am thinking of trying to convert a canister filter into a denitrator. don't know if it works.

    hahaha...

maybe u can try. get a canister filter and fill up with seachem denitrator filter product or biohome or maybe even sulphur beads.

add bacteria and some food...(some ppl use vodka..haha..no kidding)

then cover for a few days.

turn the knob and run at slow speed.(get a low power one in the first place)

To know if it's working, test the output water for nitrate.

if u want to make one, best is to use acrylic.

or else just get any container which can be seal.

put in at least 10 metre of air tubing and power with low pump rate.

the size of denitrator depends on the size of your tank.

denitrator maybe useful but cannot be solely depended on since it utilize biological means.

    cheers.

  4. just some information to share with u..:)

when buying chiller, alot of ppl will tends to go for cheaper brands from china becos of the price.

but if u know at the performance of the chiller from china.

u will see that most pumps and chillers from china requires more watts to run which means more money in long term.

that's why brands from german and other good brands are moe ex. becos they are cheaper in long term.

another thing to notice is the efficiency.

    chiller's efficiency.

alot of pump and chiller from china or other cheap brands claim to have 1/2 or 1/3 horsepower.

but many don't know how true is that or in other words, how efficient is ur chiller.

1/2 but is that the average power or is that the max ?

how long can it function at that power if it's the average ?

and 1/2, will it function constantly or will it lower at times and increase at time ?

These are things many ppl don't notice but if you look around, china battery china fans china television.

The specs are the same as other competitors but there are too many uncertainties.

many times we buy cheap china batteries but when u use them, u know the differences. haha :D

the artica chiller is a very good brand chiller compare to the rest.

The question now is running at a constant and efficient rate compare to other chillers.

is it enough for MAG's tank ?

If compare to china brand, u will certainly require a higher power becos of the performance.

Hope those artica users can share their experience with us. and how big their tank is.

as for servicing, it's normally annually if nothing is wrong. it's depends on ur own chiller. if u didn't notice any changes in efficiency, dun think you will need to worry much.

for gas top-up, what i heard from other reefers is that you need to top-up if there is a leak.

    else wun have to.

still learning from everyone. these are just some of my own observations.

Share it with everyone so that i can learn more from u guys and at the same time benefit others.

so feel free to correct me if i'm wrong. :D

    Cheers. :D

  5. Jawfish will need sand to hide and look for food. but if u plan to put in a tub of sand, pls take note that u will spill sand out to ur tank during the process.

instead u can try to put ur new jawfish into a container with sand and water.

cover it and look for a spot. u wun wan the container to be out, will look ugly. :D

place it in slowly and open the lid in the water to let the air bubble out slowly.

by placing ur jawfish in the box first will let it recognise it's house first.

cos u wun wan the fish not using it in the end.

cos it's not a surprise if they ended up not using it. some fishes do change their habits when acclimating to home tanks.

    GOOD LUCK :D

  6. thanks for the suggestions.

just something for u guys to take note.

for plankton, rotifers and pods culturing, a lot of things are taken into consideration.

    the quality in concern.

that's why X-Factor has went thru many testing and many ingredients have been tried individually to select the ones which provide the best result.

during culturing of plankton, rotifers and pods, high NO3 and PO4 is often the result.

to set up a good system for that and to ensure good population is the main concern before we consider bringing in tigerpods. :D

from time to time, there will be ppl selling pods online or planktons and stuffs.

but consumers pls take note that u could be adding in alot of NO3 and PO4 into ur own tank.

we are working to ensure the proper way of culturing and handling to make ur money worth every cent.

    Cheers. :D
